I have an '04 GMC that I bought new, have about 144,000 miles on it and it runs great and love it, but the reason I won't buy a new GMC is for the very reasons you said you didn't want to hear. Sorry, but the current politics is such that is the only way to show those in power that they don't have total control over the populace is not to buy the product. I feel that had the Government not stepped in and "Saved" GM and Chrysler, GM would have survived and maybe even merged with Chrysler coming back with an even better company.
But the reasons for buying a new truck are part of the American Fabric, and when the Soviet Union made cars, they were junk and people had no options.
I have had two Dodge diesel trucks and they ran well, even thought about buying a new one, but that too is off the table for now for the same reasons.
Ford makes good cars and trucks and I have no problem in buying one should the time arise, and it appears their sales are reflecting that public sentiment as mine and their stock has doubled...
The other reason I won't buy a GM or Chrysler now is if they do go out of business, the warranty is void...
