What are you doing today, II

Problem is we're in the Salt belt up here from November to May, the vehicles are covered in salt. And that new liquid salt gets into every crack including rusting out the brakes. I don't bother with the expensive pads and rotors anymore as they just rust. One of the rotors on the front was replaced 2 yrs ago. I can't complain about the other side though as I changed it at 80k kms now it's sitting at 216k.

I slept late after last night's fencing practice and arriving home about 12:30am.

On Tuesday evenings a young adult female travels to and from Purdue with me. She has, over the past several months, been asking me about Catholicism. Apparently some of her relatives were Catholic (they are now deceased) and her parents have Catholic backgrounds but typically attend their local Baptist church on the occasion that they go to Church. The family is religious, but not actively practicing on a regular basis. Well last night she popped the question as we were driving home from campus . . . "How do I become a Catholic?" 75 minutes later I dropped her off at her home, but in the hour+ drive we talked about RCIA (rite of Christian initiation for adults), we went through a Rosary, we talked about the Catechism and even listed to part of a podcast by a Catholic Priest. She seems to be willing and ready to commit. So that was interesting.

This morning, after a late start, I picked up free "gubmint" prescription meds at 2 different pharmacies, got a new pair of free "gubmint" eyeglasses, all courtesy of Medicare. I'm sort of loving this retirement stuff considering I was paying close almost $2800/month for private insurance, so now I have comparatively no payments and lots of free stuff!

Also picked up a dozen tamales from the church tamale fundraiser sale. Then grocery shopping to get fruits and veggies and other essentials for Kobe, who we will get from school on Friday.

Fencing practice tonight. But for the moment just sitting here digesting a late lunch and thinking I really need to vacuum the carpet before Marcia returns home with Melen's corgi, who will stay with us for a couple of days.
check Express Scrips for your Maintenance meds, the only thing I don't get is my trulicity because it needs refrigeration. and my one shot meds for a cold ect.

I've used Express Scripts for many years. I also get my Trulicity from them. It arrives in about 3 days packed in a Styrofoam cooler filled with those freezer packs. It's always worked well. The only things that I don't get through them are the over-the-counter stuff. They used to supply those too, I don't know if they still do, but the time it took to deliver them made it impractical. If I have a cold or the flu or such, I want something to control the symptoms right now, not in 3 or 4 days time.

The kids headed to school and the missus to work. I headed to deer blind. I had just lit my propane heater and sat down and these two came in to feed. I watched them a half hour then played around with a few calls. 20251113_081956.jpg

The missus and I have been up since 2:30am as we had to be at the airport for 3:30am to catch a 5am flight to Toronto for the weekend. The flight was only an hour but wtf have they done with the airplanes? Last time I flew was on a turbo prop twin engine passenger flight. This was a bigger airbus and I was crammed in like a sardine with my knees jammed against the seat in front. We picked up a rental car and went to see the royal Ontario museum. We'd been before but they keep changing the displays. Afterwards, we drove to Niagara falls where we have plans with people for dinner. It's a 2hr drive from toronto. After supper we'll drive back. And what's up with everyone driving down here. The speed limit is 100km 3 lanes wide bumper to bumper doing an average of 135km (that's 85mph for you sutherners). My wife and I kept saying "No thank you " over and over. We opted to skip going to see the falls as we've both been a couple times before. Now we're parked at a Walmart having a rest.20251114_122903.jpg20251114_103826.jpg

Yep, economy airlines pack you in like sardines.
I fly a few times per month on cheap flights but even being cramped in, it's a hell of a lot better than driving.
The Airbus A320 seems a lot more cramped than the Boeing 737 Max-8.

I've been crying and worrying most of the day because my eldest Granddaughter Kasey is moving to Portland,Oregon on Sunday.
By car.
She'll be with a friend on the journey and we've already told her to get the app on her phone so we can keep track of where she is.
My son Jeff is sick about it because she's going to be so far away.
At least she has an excellent job waiting for her.
We are going to fly out there at some point when she gets settled.

At least she has a good job waiting. That gives you some sense of security.

Yes Bob, it does.
She has her nursing license, she's got her EMT, but then she got her certification from Central Pennsylvania Institute of Science and Technology and decided to go in that field because that's where the money is.
Steel work and welding.
I can't argue with her.

Similar story.
Early in my career I was looking to hire a welder.
Amongst the candidates was a young (nice looking) black girl. Wonderful manners. Good vocabulary. Dressed nice. Not the stereotype.
We talked, she had the skills, new the drill, and brought in coupons of TIG on 0.065 ss tube.
So I had to ask, why would such a proper young lady get into welding.
She was from the hood, no daddy, mommy was a druggy, so she got into the local college and signed up for nursing school.
Got her assignments, went to her first class, and it was metallurgy. She sat through it and went to the registrars office.
Long story short, the system took four weeks or something like that to straighten it out.
By then she figured this is what God wanted and she went on and became a VERY proficient welder.
She put all the other guys to shame, but at the same time, forced them to uo their game.
I hope Chandra made something of her sour childhood.

We are sincerely hoping Kasey has chosen the right path.
If she hasn't, time will tell.
She's always got the medical to fall back on.
Honestly, I wanted her to stay with that.
😉

She should speak with a career counselor specializing in welding. She plays her cards right, she should be able to really make it big. Not too many welders coming on line. She could be more than just a commodity.
Well she's been through the course.
This was her decision.
I'm not really liking the fact that she's moving so far away.
From State College, PA all the way to Oregon for God's sake.
She knows we are there for her no matter what.
That girl is 22 years old and has been through some major life changes since she lost her Mother.
I've been a constant in her life ever since.
Can't do anything more than support her 100%, as always.

Vacuuming leaves into my Black and Decker leaf shredder.
IT handle tiny branches as well as leaves.
However, after fivve years of service it the bacg is becoming theadworn and flawed. So, a lot of clamps and extra knots to keep the shredding inside the bacg.

On the lawn it is easier to use the bagger on the mower. But I have large patios, driveways, and decks.
So far two days of it. One more tomorrow should do it.

I think that the price from express scripts depends on your insurance coverage. I think that mine costs $225 for a 3-month supply. It used to be $200 but, like everything else, it's gone up.
