What are you doing today, II

I had a volvo XC90 and the battery was in the spare tire compartment in the rear hatch. But there were "posts" for jump starting under the hood.

Our HHR was like that as well. But, guess what? No matter how many times you tried to jump it using those posts, it would not work. You had to make the jump directly to the battery instead.

still doing body work on my first gen, getting close, also still getting used to retirement, feel like there is somthing I need to do every morning, until I realize I can do whatever I want .

Yesterday I made a serious offer to adopt this little darling.
After speaking with my landlord, I was told there is a no dog policy. I knew that.
Cats are allowed.
I begged and begged, but was once again told no. Dogs bark. No kidding?!
So I've been crying over this baby hoping he eventually gets adopted into a good loving home.
I fell in love with him at first sight.
I love Eddie.
I'm keeping tabs on Fulton county humane society.

10" of heavy wet snow overnight. Got both driveways cleared. Cleared the end of my neighbor's driveway while he cleared the rest with his big push blower. Went across the road and did a 9' wide path for that neighbor, he dumped & spread some gravel for me earlier this year so this is my return payment.

Garage furnace was not kicking on . . . traced it down to dead batteries in the thermostat. Replaced the batteries. Working like a charm now.

For some reason we have none of Al Gore's inter-web connections. So I'm on 5G back up.

Planning to go to the fencing club this evening.

Just started again. Had white out a few minutes ago. Couldn't see the river from the third floor.
Valpo is south and west of us.
South Bend is almost directly south of us

Hasn't really snowed again here, which is ok by me, at least nothing measurable.

I got ambitious today and cleaned every room like a maniac, with the intention of putting up the Christmas tree.
That didn't happen 🙄 maybe next week.

November is flying by way too fast, just like October did.
I've got all this stuff I'd like to do, and will get to it when I can, now that I'm picking up extra shifts at work.
I'm working the night before Thanksgiving because it's $50 per hour.

Besides cleaning and yakking over Facebook, I did manage to make a big pot of taco soup.

Having a couple beer in the cabin watching the sunset and celebrating not having to get my hands dirty yet lol!

Took in a Remembrance Day service this morning, my daughter is in Air Cadets and takes part handing out the wreaths to be laid. Hard not to feel proud seeing your kid in uniform even if they are only 14.

That is a nice view.

I'm getting ready to drive south to Purdue to coach fencing.

Very nice view. I skipped the remembrance day ceremony this morning...wait.....just hold on......I did attend a ceremony on Sunday at the local legion Pancake breakfast standing honour guard with my scout troop in full uniform for a wreath laying ceremony. So that counts even though it wasn't today.

At about 11am, I was sitting quietly in my deer blind with the propane heater blasting and a layer of snow of the ground watching two does feed. 20251111_121851.jpg

My daughter in law posted pics on Facebook from their front yard in Defiance,Ohio.
They were very visible here as well, but I was too busy all night chasing blood sugars, behavioral residents and everything in-between to get any personal pictures.

Yesterday. I was told that my rollers were done.

......... I didn't even know that they had started on them. AND THEY ARE ALL WRONG.

The lathe guy bored them straight thru. We have a serious lack of communication around this place..... but that's par for the course around here.

Today... I'm trying to figure out how to fix this shit.

I had him add a shallow counterbore so I can weld a fender washer in there, kind'a like Tucker Sno Cat used to do. I was trying to avoid that..... but I have no choice, now. I'll just have to weld the center hole shut, and then deck them off after they're welded up.

I went for a massage this morning then finished off doing the front brakes on my truck today. I had new pads and rotors which I installed last week. Then decided after servicing the calipers, to go ahead and order a new set and install them.

I slept late after last night's fencing practice and arriving home about 12:30am.

On Tuesday evenings a young adult female travels to and from Purdue with me. She has, over the past several months, been asking me about Catholicism. Apparently some of her relatives were Catholic (they are now deceased) and her parents have Catholic backgrounds but typically attend their local Baptist church on the occasion that they go to Church. The family is religious, but not actively practicing on a regular basis. Well last night she popped the question as we were driving home from campus . . . "How do I become a Catholic?" 75 minutes later I dropped her off at her home, but in the hour+ drive we talked about RCIA (rite of Christian initiation for adults), we went through a Rosary, we talked about the Catechism and even listed to part of a podcast by a Catholic Priest. She seems to be willing and ready to commit. So that was interesting.

This morning, after a late start, I picked up free "gubmint" prescription meds at 2 different pharmacies, got a new pair of free "gubmint" eyeglasses, all courtesy of Medicare. I'm sort of loving this retirement stuff considering I was paying close almost $2800/month for private insurance, so now I have comparatively no payments and lots of free stuff!

Also picked up a dozen tamales from the church tamale fundraiser sale. Then grocery shopping to get fruits and veggies and other essentials for Kobe, who we will get from school on Friday.

Fencing practice tonight. But for the moment just sitting here digesting a late lunch and thinking I really need to vacuum the carpet before Marcia returns home with Melen's corgi, who will stay with us for a couple of days.

Call your Medicare people and have them deliver the scrips! It's automatic once you start it. They show up shot a week before you run it, 90 days at a time.

I find it disgusting how frequently the calipers go bad, these days. Seems like you need to change the calipers EVERY TIME you change the pads. I keep telling myself to make a small hole in the caliper boot and spray WD-40 in there BEFORE I compress the piston.....

......... but I always forget, and the caliper gets too tight to move freely after the job is done. (Rust/ corrosion under the boot).

I hate scheduled obsolescence. Every engineer in the world does it, these days.

Exchange your brake fluid every 2 years. Your calipers will thank you.
Also when doing a brake job, replace whatever slides, pins, attaching hardware.
Use a product like sil-glide on the sliding surfaces
You ain't change calipers again if you do the above
