Stupid, worthless Amish!

So there really are Rouge Amish terrorizing the country side? I used to live in PA and knew many Amish. All very nice people, I thought you were kidding.

There is a whole community of the banished ones about 100 mile east of here. The ones who lived in the farm I bought were banished and had to move in a hurry. That is the only way I got my place away from the Amish. The bad news is the guy who bought the original house and barn with 46 acres is just as bad. The guy I bought from was arrested for raping his daughter in law to be and the elders talked the court into letting them deal with it. I found this out about 6 months after I bought the place. His nephew was banished for incest as well. There have been others charged with theft and DUI and some of the young ones have left the faith. I know one who left for over 6 years now. He is a widely known local marathon runner who works for my old neighbor on a dairy farm. He is a good one as are most of the ones around here. The few bad in the bunch make it bad for the rest.

Wow, I just assumed they were all like the ones I knew. Guess that is why stereotypes are so bad.

A lot of stuff in this thread is funny...but everybody remember

how much fun you had at the Amish people's expense before you whine

if someone here makes fun of your belief system.

Like, what do you call three homo's arrested in a gay bath house?

haha, ya, rape-incest/drug use is so funny ! Oh, I guess we should talk about it, as it is different than what we believe in....

ffs:hammer:

I don't make fun at their expense and have noted repeatedly that I am only dealing with a few bad apples who happen to live next door. Once again I WILL REPEAT that most are very fine people and I have very good dealings with them. I have always maintained that they are people no different than anyone else in so many ways. I respect their beliefs and values and they respect mine. For the most part we work together very well and help each other like more neighbors should. As in any group there are some who bring shame and some who bring pride.
Nice gay bashing by the way!

Finding humor in another culture isn't making fun of, or at least I didn't feel like I was.
Besides, how many Amish do we have on the forums?
Show of hands? lol

Being a regular visitor to Berne, Grabill and Shipshewana, Indiana over the years has caused me to have a great deal of respect for these people and their way of life.
Can't understand how they can claim to be one way, when in actuality a lot of them don't adhere to the rules they supposedly live by.

I'll tell you one thing, the women can cook/bake like you wouldn't believe.
The men and their craftsmanship cannot be matched, their vegetables are gorgeous that they offer at end of the drive stands set up on their properties (trusting that people won't rip them off, but drop some money in the bucket).. and as for the ones who don't take part in doing dodgey things that break the law, well.. God bless them!

Yes the girls do cook pretty well but so does my wife. I almost always get bread or pies or cookies. The other day it was whoopie pies! I buy a lot of their baking supplies in bulk at Sams club and haul them for them when I do my hospital runs. Tools and batteries and parts for the men and groceries for the women. Sometimes I haul a suburban load of the gals to Joanns for material they can't get mail order. They love to eat at McDonalds as their treat to themselves.

Yummmmmmmmmm whoopie pies!
.. and the noodles.. omg!

You do good for running errands for them and doing them favours Bill, which makes it even more appalling that you'd be treated the way you were.

Yup, it's a little odd seeing a horse and buggy at MickieD's.. we only see it occasionally around here, as the Mennonites are more in the immediate area.

Chust one der minnit fish boat gyrl, whylst I crant dat genrater !
Dang it ain't a generator it's a Honda! The girls get mean if their Honda for the washing machine won't start. I have seen the sawmill get shutdown till the washer gets running. You should see them iron with a gas fired iron!

Just out of sheer curiosity since we don't generally have amish up here but do those people have regular jobs and pay taxes and such? Edumacate a curious northerner.

Up until the recession most were self employed but many are working out in the english world. They don't really pay income tax as they have so many kids it is a wash. They are exempt from social security tax but can never collect it either. They do pay property taxes and school taxes even though they school themselves. The kids do ride the bus to their school if it is a long distance or on dangerous roads.

Reading comprehension is hard, nobody is making fun of the Amish belief
system, the discussion is about the rogue members that don't adhere to
the belief system. Now, quit bashing gay folks and move along.:nono2:

We have a sizable Amish community here. For the most part they are good people, but they can get rowdy. I used to work at the are sale bard part time with some of the boys and I can tell you.., they knew how to throw keggars....:w00t2:

Well yesterday I got a phone call from the bishop to come meet with him. Turns out the guy I spoke with Monday is only a deacon and another neighbor about 2 miles from me is also a deacon. They are well aware of the problem this family is creating and suggested I should buy the farm back from them.:hammer: I told him I could not afford that or I would not have sold it in the first place. I told them all that has gone on for the past 3 years and that I would hope that the bank or tax man soon repo's the place. Phone guys were just out and replaced the wire section. Their boss called and said they will not charge them for the repair so once again they get off with no consequences. All the elders want to do is have them come up and apologize again. I explained that I heard their hollow apologies before and the best they can do is get out of town before someone gets hurt.
I know the game wardens are keeping an eye out for them so it will be a matter of who catches them first.

tell them to make yer neighbors repent, and for penance, a years worth of home made butter and baked goods from the community:clap::biggrin:

They offered to pay for the stuff they stole 2 years ago when I was laid up in the hospital out of their own pockets! As for baked goods and butter I only eat stuff from a select few who I know have good food practices like keep stuff in the ice house. They eat some pretty disgusting things and don't always worry about spoilage. Winter time is a lot safer than summer. I know one who had a load of milk rejected by the co-op so they processed it into butter. I might have fed it to the hogs but not for me.

Well time for a little update on the Rogue Amish! They are abandoning the place and moving out next Friday!! Seems they have gotten the word from the leaders and relatives to just leave town. I guess the bank and the government will fight out who has dibs on the property. I understand he is leaving his brother hanging for a bunch of money he had loaned him as well. He lives in the next farm down the hollow and his wife and daughters went along shopping and Dr. visits yesterday. From the conversation she is glad but pissed off at the same time over the finances. I think we will see a change in folks attitudes after they are gone. I know they all treat me well and I just try to be a good neighbor and help them like they help me. Boys are coming tomorrow to help put the wood siding on the greenhouse and I have been hauling their milk this week and next while their regular driver gets a new motor in his truck. I wish I had some fire works for next Thursday night. Me and the other English neighbors are gonna celebrate!:yum:

But -- did they make a Amish Made Electric Fireplace?

Kinda like hillbillies but we don't feel as guilty about it.
