Is anyone going to travel in a month to see the total eclipse?

We are thinking really hard about it. It falls on a Monday and is a diagonal line from SW to NE though the middle of the country.
For us about a 3-to-4-hour drive depending on where along the path of totality you go.

We're pretty close to where it's going to be (about 20-30 miles outside the total eclipse line) so we're just going to see what we can see from home.

WE may go to Hippie ridge to see it. Barely inside the path of the partial eclipse.

Central Indianna would be a full eclipse and a bit closer.

We will go about two hours to see it at daughters house. Also Barely inside the path of total eclipse.

Change in plans. We will not go to see the total eclipse. Changed our minds. Will see TV coverage, I'm sure you cannot miss that. It will be a madhouse at our daughters place in Marysville OH. Much of Columbus will be going there as it's the closest place with total eclipse. I've been disappointed by most eclipses I've tried to see. Don't want to spend half a day on the road in lots of traffic just to see it turn dark for 4 mins. Ho hum.

Those in 90 to 99% will not see much. It was said to be like going to a concert. Total eclipse will be inside to see the show. 99% would be somewhere outside in the parking lot. You would hear a lick or two on the guitars but miss most of the show.

We also changed our plans. We ARE going to see it. . . weather forecast dependent!

Heading south to Lebanon, IN for the Eclipse. It is less than a 2 hour drive. Going to grab lunch, watch the big yellow ball get blotted out, then drive home.

For whatever it is worth, many of the states in the path of totality have declared emergencies in advance of the eclipse. Traffic and communications may become seriously stressed or overwhelmed.

With all the fuss and crowds that are expected in Defiance (food trucks, campers, bands etc .)
I think I'm going to stay right here in Napoleon.
I can walk down to the park, or ummm just step outside? Lol

Sounds like me and watching rocket launches out of Cape Canaveral. A couple times, I was with all the people lining all the shores, parking areas... Now I just stand in our driveway and watch them fly.

😮

I just checked the weather forecast for Monday around here and starting at noon until 4 p.m. heavy rain in coming. I will sit on the porch and smoke a cigar with a cool Big Red. If it is not visible from here I will just shut my eyes for 4 minutes and call it an eclipse.

There are fairgrounds now closing but for only those who have purchased tickets 🙄
Who needs to go to a venue to view an eclipse?

When I was probably around 7 years old, that was my first learning about them.
My brother who was 9 at the time, brought home the 2 pieces of poster board (one with a pinhole) from school so we could see the eclipse shadow on the driveway.

This is going to be a huge money maker for a lot of people. 🙃

State lighted sign on US Route 302 headed east in to Fryeburg ME "ECLISE TRAFFIC/EXPECT DELAYS" That's just how they spelled it . It's about 30 miles as the crow flies/50 miles by road south of the total area.

Since the power is supposed to still be out then, it will just be another 4 minutes of dark.

Infowars and Alex Jones (the nutcase) and others are all freaking out over the recent tornados, earthquakes and now the coming eclipse.
Somehow they believe there is a correlation between those.
I guess we're all going to die because it's the end of times. 🙄
You gotta love the conspiracy theorists.

Remember the "Y2K" freakout?

I had people telling me that at the stroke of midnight there would be riots in the streets. I asked why they would wait until midnight to riot . . . and people stared back at me with dumb looks on their faces. It was just as absurd. People said we wouldn't be able to get money from the ATM after 12:00am so people would riot and I said withdraw it before midnight if they were worried about it . . . and people like 'huh, yeah that makes sense'

I mean I see the tourist factor for the eclipse overwhelming some systems for a few hours. OK, that just makes sense, so plan around it, because that also makes sense!

At this point I'm more worried about the US getting dragged into an Israel-Iran war after Israel fired on an Iranian embassy annex building. I know they killed terrorists. But they fired upon an embassy building and that could be considered a declaration of war. It has nothing to do with the eclipse . . . unless Infowars and Alex Jones can connect them???

Cloud cover maybe the biggest news of the day.
It may be exactly why we stay home. It was a big issue 7 years ago when we had the last one.
