What if they shut down the government and nobody noticed?

I'm in the process of getting my social security and medicare set up. So I did a lot of it LAST MONTH to make sure that the processes had all begun while offices were theoretically occupied. It appears that Social Security is remaining open. It appears that Medicare is remaining open. So maybe I had nothing to worry about but being a guy who likes to try to plan ahead, I guess I was just being prudent.

As for the rest of it, nobody is going to notice unless they are a WIC recipient. Being a foster dad, I do worry about that. WIC pays for food for poor kids. I pretty much support that concept.

I think most of the other non-essential services can be reduced, delayed or eliminated and most people won't have a clue they are missing something.

The Federal government may be shut down, but poor service still exists. And local governments are still impeding the progress of life.

We have spent weeks trying to get our granddaughter back into the school she attended two years ago. Crumpy just took a wad of documents showing we live here, have a mortgage, paid taxes, and have done so for the last 50 years.
The school won't let her attend classes until we prove we are residents.
Actually, we were residents when this school was a soy-bean field.

I'm betting illegals have experienced little of this trouble.

Back in the fifties when I was school age, I do not remember my parents, with 5 children in school, had any of these issues getting us "permission" to attend. To my mind we need less government. Shut down is fine.

I don’t support wic, if you can’t afford to have kids don’t have them, they are not my responsibility. And if you, you should be held financially responsible not everyone else.

How has the shutdown affected you? I'm soooo surprised - I was reliably informed by the Dems that it spells the end of democracy as we know it. Planes will fall out of the sky & trannies will spontaneously combust. Color me disappointed; I was looking forward to the spectacle.
Here's a question to answer yours.
What if they shut down the government and nobody cared?

Dad died. Mom is unknown, drug abuser, possibly diseased.
And I imagine the grandmother is getting funds from the state to take care of him as well as you. Correct? He looks to be a good little kid and none of it is his fault, but the fact remains that the taxpayer shouldn’t be responsible if there is family, prior to social services there was family, churches and in sever cases state run orphanages. I realize it’s a situation not asked for but the taxpayer didn’t ask for it either. Sorry if it sounds harsh but social services are out of control and the country is broke because of it.

@m1west
From the bottom of my heart, please don't ever question @Melensdad again.
He does more for humanity than 10 of us combined.

meh, I can have an opinion that differs from others, I have no issues with differing opinions.

And he is correct, the tax payers didn't ask for the burden.

But most agree that there should be some level of safety net, especially for children. As I said early on, that one program is the only one that I would have made sure stayed funded. As for the rest of the gubmint, lock the doors, send the people home, have them report for unemployment on Monday.

Or . . . as Joe Biden once said: "they can learn to code"

We Libertarians are usually pretty good at that. ;)

I think this is why Charlie Kirk's assassination hit me so hard.

I grew up defending free speech. My college had a debate series called "It seems to be that..." and anyone could start a debate. We had debate table in the school cafe. I guess that was the last era of free speech on campuses? My daughter, 35 years later, was afraid to voice her opinions at law school and she is pretty mainstream.

I love a good discussion, civil debate.
