What are you doing today, II

A big branch broke off the old oak tree. Some 14" in diameter and about 20 feet long. It is still lying stem down the butt leaning agist the tree. I have to pull it down to cut it up.

And it is raining today.

I have cleaned up most of the debris on the ground. But I will require some assistance getting this puppy safely down.

And it's raining outside.

I need to put up a tall and very heavy ladder to attach to the top end and with two ropes guide it safely down where I can cut it to small pieces.

And, it's raining outside.

Crumpy has a head cold and my son is safely tucked warm in bed. No volunteers.

And, it's raining outside.
With more coming later today.

This may not happen. :(

That was a hobby of mine when I was a kid. It was fun for a while, but it got old.

I pretty much quit drinking when I turned 21.
i hadn't even had a beer until i joined the navy, then i had fun on the weekends. i got pretty good at it for a while in the early 2010's, but gave it up after it bit me in the pancreas.

I've been out in the deer blind most of the day today. I did head back to the house earlier and chopped up a couple of trees I had dropped a few weeks ago then headed back to the stand. I had a little excitement earlier. Sadly I don't have a doe tag this year. I did apply. (And yes, we're allowed to bait here)

Worked on the tote bin storage rack.

Went to the eye doctor to pick up new glasses. I will return them tomorrow to have the left lens re-cut.

Back home to work on the tone bin storage rack, shuffle the crap around in the garage, including sorting some for the trash.

Sitting and eating while surfing the net and relaxing before I have to drive south to Purdue.

I'll be picking up a 19 year old girl on my way, she is an epee fencer who trains with my Olympian friend and, while inexperienced, has a lot of potential, so she comes to Purdue with me on Tuesday evenings. I drop her off at her home about midnight. She lives about 20 minutes south of me, literally 60 seconds off my normal commuter route to get to/from Purdue. Her family and I are friends, I taught her dad to fence and coach her little sister.

Went to the bank get some cash and quarters for laundry then went to Ya Ya flame broiled chicken for lunch and then shopped at the mall at Bath and Body Works to get some products there. Decent day off today from work.

Family coming in next week and then more at Thanksgiving, then again at Christmas.

We have a Bissell home carpet extractor and it works pretty good, but every once in a while you want to do a deeper clean. Giving the family coming in over the 60 days figured it would be a good idea to have a carpet cleaner show up can clean the carpets. The lovely Mrs_Bob got a first bid of $750.

This morning I went to a big box home center, rented a heavy duty carpet cleaner. $40. Another $25 for a jug o'cleaner to go with the extractor. Add tax. All in for $70.

Just finished up cleaning ALL the carpets in the house, and cleaning the rented carpet cleaner. So about 2.5 hours of work. Saved $680. WTF? I get you pay for the service and the labor but that seems pretty excessive.

Going to leave to take the carpet cleaner back before the lovely Mrs_Bob thinks of some other project. I need to rest before I go to fencing. This retirement stuff is killing me.

I spent the morning out in the deer blind watching 2 does feed. Around 10:30 I headed back to the garage and swapped out my summer tires for my winter ones on the car. Discovered a wobbly front wheel bearing.

Then headed to pick up a new wheel bearing for the car and the city and bring my daughter to an appointment. Then drove her back to school where my youngest son pretty much kicked me out of the driver's seat so he could drive us home. First time in the city with lights and traffic. He did alright.

I just knew they had a male companion. After supper my wife headed to the city with the kids and headed back out to the blind. 20 minutes later...

I took a shot and figured I had shot low as it barely moved then walked away slowly. I fully expected to go retrieve my arrow but( ⚠️ if you're squeamish).......20251029_194152.jpg

I called a buddy and we headed in with flashlights tracking the trail. We decided to back out and resume the search in the morning.

I'm seeing a lot of dead deer along the road. Way more than normal. I know we are over populated, but I'd really wish that hunters would harvest the meat rather than see carrion birds and coyotes get a feast.

I have every intention of harvesting the deer this morning. We just stopped tracking last night after following the blood trail a mile through the woods. I know where we were last night to resume the search this morning.

Cloudy, breezy and cool today.
I'll take another walk later, if the rain holds off.
Then I've volunteered to help at the bake sale at work, which helps raise funds for the residents outings.
Other than that, nothing much else.
Just another day in paradise.

....

Sunny, breezy and cool here.

And I am sore as heck today. Maybe from cleaning the carpets yesterday? But maybe from taking avorastatin? I take it in the evening. Just as a (short term) test, I skipped my dose last night. Plan to do the same for the next few nights. Wondering if my whole self hurts from the drug? If I feel overall better then I'm going to be having a chat with the doctor about switching meds.

90 minutes ago I took 3 advil + a tramadol. Still feel very sore. Muscles and joints.

I was planning to set up ladders in the living room and the miter saw and stained trim boards on the living room patio so I could add another layer of wood around the living room trim. Looking at one more layer on the very top, another layer at knee level. Plus I have some to do on the library walls to trim that out. I'm going to save that for tomorrow & Saturday.

I've got back-to-back fencing classes this afternoon & this evening to coach. Fortunately I only 'assist' the first class and I have 3 assistants for the 2nd class.

Bob, soooo many people I know have complained about that side effect from statins. I'd seriously look into something else if I were you.
3 Advil and the tramadol should have helped somewhat with your pain.

This weather is crap, and the city are still having trick or treat tonight.
We rarely get kids coming here.
They tend to stay in town where all the big neighbourhoods are ...with the 4 story German houses = lots of goodies lol

3 Tylenol were added at NOON to bolster the pain reduction and honestly doesn't seem to be really helping much.

I'm unsure if the statins are the problem. But this little experiment, which will continue through Sunday, should give me a better idea and if the daily pain is reduced then I'm definitely going to have a long chat with the doctor.

Rain all day long here.
Did a bunch of paperwork, financial planning, addressed some really weird medical bill issues... this morning.
Puttering around the shop this afternoon.
Trick-or-treat starts in an hour. Yea, not worried about that. A few of the dads in the neighborhood (ok, out here in the sticks) normally hang out at the end of my driveway for beers, chat and passing out candy. Haven't got a kid in a couple years so we gave up on that. Might get the guys together and have some beers in my shop instead.
