What are you doing today, II

A couple of projects I wanted to get done. Plastic welded a big long crack in our garbage dumpster that has been getting larger and longer over the past few months. Fabricated up a water bottle holder for my Snapper rear engine riding lawn mower. The one I have didnt come with one and the option was not available for it. Took our mountain cur out for a walk on our empty lot across the street to survey my grass cutting job I did on it yesterday.
 
It's raining today. Thank goodness i finished the patio brick sanding yesterday.
Since I cannot do much in the muck outside today, I am stuck with doing a housewife day.
Vacuuming the whole house.
Orders from she who must be obeyed are to clean the bathrooms.
Crumpy knows that is my favorite job ,,,,NOT.
However, our guest children are gone for a few days so we will have some alone time tonite.
So, I'll do the bathrooms,,,, yeah,,,,you betcha!
If I do it right, it will put a smile on her face.
And later, maybe she can put one on mine.

I came home from camp bright and early this morning to help a buddy build his new deck. We've only got half framed so far building it in 2 12x12 ft sections. 3 of us working all day. I came home for supper then heading back if they're still working.

I came back after supper and helped finish off the framing. Tomorrow is hopefully the deck boards and railings.

Finished the shell/roof of the pole building yesterday. Yea, I know it's not perfect. Raining today which is good as my body needs a break.
I'll do a little framing on the far end for firewood storage. Needs paint, electric, gutter, more gravel (or millings) and a few other things.
The best part of this building is I spent less than $200 building it. I only needed to buy (4) 12' 2x6, roofing screws, framing lag bolts and Sacrete. :) I had everything from the tin roof to the framing materials laying around.

I took the day off from outside work as we finally have much needed rain. It's been so dry this spring that I've been scared to fart outside. I did however go to the monthly legion breakfast that I clean up dishes at with my scout troop. I get a free breakfast out of it.
 
Didn't sleep much since getting home from work around 7am this morning.
Last night, everything that could possibly go wrong- DID!

Then, this morning Ty sends me this.
He had to go to the emergency room.
He was out on a tow when his nose started bleeding profusely.
It was a ruptured vessel in his nose.
Now he's sporting a tiny J-P drain for a few days.
My poor baby 😕

My Jacobsen has a cup holder built into the fuel tank on the left side.

It rained most of the day yesterday and last night. We needed it. So no work on the deck at my buddy's place. It stopped this morning and apparently we're going to be at it again. We still have to finish framing and installing a couple support posts before laying down deck boards and building a set of stairs for it.

I got the message wrong. Lol. They're working on the deck this evening. I'm out as I'm going to be taking my scouts on a hike. Since I was already dressed up for dirty work, headed down to the garage this morning and first, did some work on the fifth wheel flat deck then loaded up my smaller flat deck with a load of scrap for the dump. I was all set to go the realized that I was a day early as the dump is only open Tuesday. Oh well. I jumped on the Jacobsen mower and did the lawn. I'm surprised how well that 72" deck cuts wet grass. Barely slowed it down.

My in-laws are here for a week for my daughter's high school graduation on Thursday.
 
Today, I installed the carrier, set backlash with a dial indicator, preload on the carrier with an inch pound torque wrench then painted the ring gear and checked the pattern, all good. Put oil in and it’s now got 20 miles on it. No funny noises or leaks. So far so good. I’m going to put a few more miles on it then change the oil again, just to make sure it’s flushed out, there was a lot of debris in there to clean out and there is a chance to miss some, I’ll put a couple hundred on it and if still good I’ll drive it to the mountain Saturday. Saved $2500.00 doing it myself.
 
I've been waiting for 6 months for the water association to find curb cock to shut off water to firehouse to fix some leaking pipes
they found it shut it off (it had been paved over decades ago) I got plumbing manifold tied in and finished.
We had a 1" line coming in necked down to 1/2" copper again decade's ago a garden hose washing off a fire truck you couldn't even flush the toilet. Now 1" feed to all the hose bibs except one hot water to new hose bib for pressure washer. I still have one more hose bib to increase the size to 3/4.

One suggestion don't buy 1" pex in coils its almost impossible to straighten out under ground it would be fine but not through rafters and inside.20250609_091250[1].jpg20250609_132651[1].jpg
 
Very nice. I miss having fires. We're under a fire ban.

I spent the day outside working on my fifth wheel flat deck. Then over to my buddy's house to work on his deck all evening. I installed all the crossbracing while they worked on the stairs. It's almost ready for deck boards then railings. They're getting married in July and the old deck wasn't safe anymore.
 
I took the day off from any outside work as it's my daughter's grade 12 graduation this evening and they had a catholic mass this morning for all the graduates. She sung in the choir for the service up in the balcony of a cathedral. The actual graduation is this evening at the auditorium. It's one of the largest schools in the city. But right now? Sitting out on the deck in the sunshine listening to nature. (We live in the country so aside from a passing vehicle, it's quiet! Neighbors are 300ft each side of us)

I took up our house tractor up to camp and my wife started cutting to yard.
I got new battery before I put it in jumped mower its got only 5.6v out of the old battery when its running????
I put the new battery in and tried it and blades started right up voltage 12.8 cut the lower part of the yard that's on a steep hill with no problems about 3 hrs seat time my eyes are watering and itchy did I say I hate cutting grass because I'm allergic to it????
Luckily my wife doesn't have that problem and does it while I don't mind doing the do the dishes usually I don't cry doing them ;)

Took one of the vehicles in for inspection, oil change & tire rotation this morning. Another goes in Monday & yet another on Tuesday.

Bought a pressure washer at auction. It's new but was missing a parts bag. Dug around the shop, found the parts I needed and got it up and running. I'll do some pressure washing today.

The Mrs. said the caulk in the master tub is cracking. Dug it out while she looked for caulk. She couldn't find any. :( That's OK, Amazon will deliver it tomorrow. ;)

If it doesn't get too hot or rain, I may start building the walls for the new pole building.
 
Watching you build that pole barn is giving me ideas for a future project. 🤔 I have room behind the garage for one....would be great winter storage for the quads and sxs. Hmmm.
 
Can you attach it to the existing garage? If so, one side of the new building is already done. Lag bolt a header to the existing wall and build your roof out from there.

For me, it was a great way to use up a whole bunch of supplies I had laying around. I had dozens of 2x4, 2x6, metal roofing, construction/deck screws... laying around.
 
Yesterday, I trimmed all of the European Honey suckle which had 4' to 6' foot branch sprouts everywhere.
easy stuff to run thru the mulcher. A nice pile about four feet high.
But today is solid rain so no go.
European Honey suckle is a beautiful shrub that can grow to 25 feet. But it is an invasive species. New seedlings all over the yard so, I must keep it in control. But worth the extra work.

We have four of them from Crumpy's mother. They are in back in the picture she posted

Would be difficult at the back of the garage as I have a wood stove for heat and that's where the chimney comes up. But I can pick up 4x4 posts for cheap as well as 2x4s at the discount lumber store down the street from my place. It's all economy wood but who cares? That's what my buddy built his deck from. They have all different lengths and sizes.
