What are you doing today, II

Still sick. Coming out both ends. Sadly I don't get a sick day. Up at 4am on 3hrs sleep to drive my son and to work. Made it there and back without throwing up in the car. Came home and caught another hour of sleep. Threw up again. Drove back to get him at 10 with a bucket in the passenger seat. I filled it halfway there. 30 minute round trip.

To make it interesting, our clothes dryer died this week and the repair guy was scheduled to come today. He just left. Not even at his vehicle yet and I was back on the toilet with a bucket. Fun fun.

Had a local steel construction come by for an estimate. My insurance sent an adjuster out in the case the crasher didn't have insurance. The guy went to the hospital and the leo couldn't find any insurance in the car. The car is his sister's. He has 10 days to prove he has insurance. So next a Friday I should know if I'm going after his insurance or give it to mine.

Pretty much a mixed day.

Lots of yard work, no fencing club today, and off-and-on rain.

Beef ribs in the smoker since 10:30am on low heat and they are looking really good now.

Leaf burning. Why don't oak leaves break down? They just pile up along the fence lines and become a maintenance nightmare and eyesore. So every year we have to rake them into piles and burn them. Maple, Locust and other leaves tend to vanish, but not the Oak tree leaves. WTF?

Saturday and Sunday I'll be gone to the Midwest Fencing Conference championships. Purdue is hosting the event this year. Our team should do well. We are rated pretty high in the conference. If it is a good weekend we should earn some individual medals on Saturday and some team trophies on Sunday.

Up at 4:30 to the bus terminal ride the route their giving me when my license comes I passed the test 10 days ago Pendot is slow still havent got it. I rode out the afternoon run drove back practicing pickups like its the morning on the way back ( you cant drive with kids on the bus with permit stamped that you passed like you can with a car).
after dinner rolled up the screen porch / summer kitchen plastic to let the view and air come in.

On my way to the grocery story I saw a bird flying while carrying a ground squirrel.

Don't see that every day.

Animals must be preparing for war if the air force is moving the ground troops into forward positions.

Oak leaves are one of the top four that are not good for composting.

The worst is Black Walnut.

I shred all leaves I rake up with a vacuum, built for that purpose, including oak. I run themthrough the compost system or as a ground cover in the gardens to keep weeds down. Covered in a thin layer of bark mulch, it saves a ton of money.
Walnut leaves hinder germination and stifle plant growth. So, I burn the Walnut.

Finally broke free of the cold and flu. Made a pot of pea soup from leftover ham from Easter. Went to a rehearsal at our church for a confirmation tomorrow. Now sitting out on the deck for the first time this year. Most of the snow is gone. 15c. No clouds. No bugs. Cheers

Fencing Championships today, individual events, my top kids:

Women's saber won Silver, Bronze, Bronze, and 5th.
Woman’s Epee won Silver
Woman’s Foil won Silver & Bronze
Mens Epee 5 & 6th
Mens Saber 5 & 6th
Mens Foil 5th

Awards are actually given to the top 8, several other kids I coach were in the Top 8.

Tomorrow we have the ‘team’ event and, unless it is a really bad day, my Women’s saber should take Gold by a landslide, Women’s Foil will likely take Gold. Every other squad has a reasonable chance at Silver or Bronze. Overall, Purdue should take Gold or Silver. But I’ve seen teams collapse. So while the odds are currently in our favor, I’m more of a praying man than a betting man.

Also I had kids in the top 8 from other schools. So for me, a great day as a coach.

Good luck today Bob.

I just home from driving my son to work. Only a couple more weeks of driving him thankfully. This morning I am part of a confirmation class at our church. There's a group of people all ages being confirmed. As I already was confirmed as a catholic at a young age but have no real connection to the religion or church in any way since then but have been attending regularly at my wife's Anglican church (Episcopalian in the states I believe) and that is the religion my dad's side of the family practiced, I am part of the confirmation group more as an acceptance into that religion, so to speak. I basically stand up with the group and when the bishop gets to me, instead of doing the confirmation, he asks that I be accepted into the Anglican community.

Afterwards, I will be assisting my oldest son change the real shocks on his vehicle. They're both shot and his vehicle is currently bouncing over the bumps. 😆

Ended up swapping out the winter tires on 3 of our vehicles with the summer ones this afternoon. Started on my son's rear shocks but it started raining and we were outside as my shop is full now with the sxs and some lumber. So I quickly swapped out his tires as he put tools in the shop. Now it's raining steady and we're under a heavy rainfall warning ⚠️.

Edit...I was just thinking...I could go sign up for a nascar pit crew. 🤣 I timed myself. Outside on a soft gravel driveway. 3 tonne jack and moving it to 4 different jack points on the buick. Winter tires off and summer tires installed and torqued in 7 minutes flat. Amazing how fast I can move when the rain is coming.

Get your kid some gloves and learn him.

He was out there helping. That was before he got home. I had actually made arrangements for us to use my buddy's garage to do his shocks however he showed up home an hour late and I didn't want to make my buddy wait any longer. I actually hadn't planned on doing it today but was down at the garage filling up tires anyway while waiting for him.

How y'all duin this fine wet day? We're under a severe weather advisory for heavy rain and thunder storms all day today. Localized flooding possible as the frost still hasn't left the ground. It's 6am and I'm done my first trip in to the city to drive my son to work. I have 3 more trips planned for today as my daughter has a dentist appointment this morning, I have to go back and pick up my son from work, and I have scouts this evening. It's going to be a long day. Thankfully I am free of the flu and was able to get all the winter tires swapped out yesterday on 3 of 6 vehicles. I'm also taking the grand am in for an oil change this morning while my daughter is at the dentist.

Also, hopefully at some point today I hear from the appliance repairman as he came Friday to inspect our dryer. The element is fried so he ordered one hopefully arriving today. As you can imagine a household of 7 unable to do laundry for a week....

Sitting in the dryness at a shop getting an oil change on the grand am and realized that I forgot the most important part of my day which only took 5 minutes in and out. I voted!

I have tried to remain quiet and keep my political views mine as I hate conflict and any time politics is discussed, someone leaves the conversation pissed and life's too short for that. Without disclosing my vote, let's just say that I did my part to oust the libs. 🫡

Still weed eating and mowing with the tractor, it rained Saturday night and Sunday morning, hope the weeds dont explode again, if everything goes well I can finish enough by the end of the week to just have some weed eating to do.
Only got one tree that went down over the winter and already sectioned it and drug it to the burn area. I’ll cut it up for firewood and burn the trimmings in the winter. Work cabin trip in sight.

Got up and divided and then planted a bunch of various hostas. Also planted some daffodil bulbs. All were gifted to me by one of my fencing parents.

Went for a CT scan of my head. Found out that the sinusitis has progressed and gotten much worse than the scan I had in January. So my brain is now full of radiation, but the message from my E.N.T. specialist is that I need surgery. In my last appointment with him, a couple weeks ago, he indicated I "might" need surgery but he'd probably try another course of steroids and a different antibiotic. Today, his message to me, after reviewing the CT scan results, is surgery is the recommended course of action. I'm fine with that. Let's get it done. I hate coughing and I've been doing it for 2 years.

Got home and went out to mow. Got the back field mowed again. It was mowed twice, and it was pretty rough. Much better now. More like a lawn, not quite a suburban lawn, but at least it is not too bad. So much better. Also got the valley mowed, that is also much much better.

To the fencing club tonight. Worked with some beginners. It was a fun night.

Home, a glass of Maker's Mark. And now sitting in bed with the TV on watching VICTORIAN FARM on Amazon Prime. Historical docs-drama about farm life in Victorian England.

We won't have to mow here for another month. I still have snowbanks down by my garage. The frost hasn't let go so the huge storm we had yesterday caused lots of localized flooding in the lower areas. We had a 2 hr power outage the other night as well as the storm was approaching from the south. Now, it's just windy and clouds. But there's a lake down by my garage from yesterday.

This morning I am going for a consult for a tooth implant to replace one that had to be removed in December due to rotting roots from a childhood injury. Another 3 trips in to the city today (2 to drive my son to and from work)

Our dryer is supposed to be fixed this afternoon. Yay. Then I'll have to reinstall both the washer and dryer in the small laundry room/bathroom off the kitchen.

Sometimes I am carried away with thinking too much about stuff. My dad passed away at 84 due to some illness. I still feel like he's with us. Compared to that, I was wondering how painful it could be when someone lost his eldest son at his prime. He shares the memories every year, and I feel really sad about it as he shared it today. Such a shame to lose such a handsome young man at his best age.

I got my school buss endorsement a couple weeks ago temporary was ran out today 3+ hours at the DMV they had all the paper work but some one in Harrisburg hosed up and didn't enter it correctly, she basically had to email them one instriction at a time till they got it fixed.
The girl at our local DMV office said it should have taken 20 minuets. if she was allowed to fix it.

Not helping is the office was mobbed with people getting their real ID waiting until the last minuet because it is required on May 7th.
The guy at the door was weeding out the people that didn't have the correct paperwork to even attempt the process or the mob would have been worse.
