UK Police: "Save a life, Surrender your Knife"

We have to disarm Chef-boy-R-dee, Julia Child, Martha Stewart, and the Galloping Gourmet to make the world safe from knives. Empty your kitchen knife drawer because it is full of deadly weapons. :hammer:

Just can make this stuff up. But while kitches across the UK may be neutered of their knives, some guy with a file or a sharpening stone will, no doubt, do a bang up business in blackmarket steak knives.

British Police Call On Nation To ‘Save a Life, Surrender Your Knife’ As ‘Knife Violence’ Continues

The news out of the United Kingdom almost reads like a satire piece from The Onion. But as strange as it may sound to people around the world, and especially in the United States, the British police push to ban knives is no joke.

The new “Save a Life – Surrender Your Knife” program is in full swing and police are telling us that they have joined forces with an already growing trend in the United Kingdom to ban “pointy” knives.

Lancashire Police tell us that an “amnesty” program began at the end of August, and “more than 800 knives have been handed in across the county – including swords, machetes and commando knives.”

“The amnesty was extended for a further week owing to its success,” Lancashire Police representatives explained.

The Lancashire department explains that their “officers have now given their backing to a national initiative designed to raise awareness of knife crime and encourage the surrender of dangerous weapons.”

In spite of the amnesty ending this week, police tell us that “people can continue to hand in any knife at any police station with a front counter as well being able to drop them into the designated bins.”

Those bins will be in cities all over the U.K. as this call for people to turn in pointed knives continues.

“We are keen to raise awareness of the devastating impact of knife crime and to reduce the number of families affected so we have decided to keep the knife bins indefinitely,” Detective Chief Inspector Steve Dowson said.

“While projects encouraging the surrender of knives are not a single solution to violence, they have an important role to play in inspiring communities to get behind education and preventative measures,” he added. “Such campaigns show a desire to address local concerns and Lancashire Police is keen to throw our weight behind them in support.

“We’ve been delighted with the response so far, but our communities have told us that they want an end to knife crime and that they want to work with us to make that happen.”

A call from the British Medical Journal was published several years ago, arguing that “many assaults are committed impulsively, prompted by alcohol and drugs, and a kitchen knife often makes an all too available weapon,” according to the BBC.

Researchers “consulted 10 top chefs from around the UK, and found such knives have little practical value in the kitchen. None of the chefs felt such knives were essential, since the point of a short blade was just as useful when a sharp end was needed.”

Again, we remind our readers outside of the UK, that this is not satire, just another example of the government claiming they are here to protect us from ourselves.

In the UK, the rate of knife violence is approximately one in every 374 people victimized, compared with a rate of one in 750 people victimized by gun violence in the United States.

I guess the Brits will cutting their steaks with sticks now....:yum::yum::yum:

If I understand it correctly, they are trying to make all 'pointy' knives over 3 or 4 inches long illegal???

What they will use for steak knives will effectively be sharpened knives with a dull rounded end (like a butter knife, but with a sharp straight edge).

You may laugh but......fuck it laugh i have nothing:unsure:

Back to eating my steak...

Shortly after I settled in England, I asked my Steven about the gun situation.
He said, "No we don't shoot each other, we just stab the other to death with knives".
November 1997.

^^ If i ever have the urge to want to kill someone(luckily i am mentally stable and do not have them disturbing thoughts) i think i would not grab a knife as i do not like mess,i would rather grab the tosser round the throat and not let go until all life had exited their body,i guess i best go hand my hands in if that is even possible.

Islam has an answer for you.

Just go steal something from one of those little shops in an area where Sharia law is enforced ... they will cut your hands off. Then you can surrender them to the local police so they cannot commit murder. :ermm:

I do hope that knife they use to cut off my hands has a rounded tip:yum::yum::yum:

Galvy, just curious, what is the "hammer & fork" graphic from? Is that a sign of protest for the knife ban? Or is that a sign from a hardware & kitchen store? or . . . . ?

I can't believe how far we have fallen. I come from a generation in the UK where every primary school boy was expected to carry a knife and now ....

Lets see now! 800 knives surrendered out of a population of around 60 million. Not what any reasonable person would call a resounding success. Heck, they could almost do as well well at my house in 15 minutes. I bet they could get almost a 100 long, pointy things in one fell swoop. My wife probably has 30 or 40 in the kitchen. 4 sets of steak knives, that's another 24. And don't forget all my fixed blade knives, lock blade folders, pocket knives, hunting knives, filet knives, work knives and I could go on ... and on. It's probably easily one hundred.

If the British police (or Obama) only knew about the guns, they'd probably have a seizure.:biggrin::biggrin::biggrin:

Outlaw knives and outlaws will have knives.

How stupid is this world getting?

How stupid?

I know a laywer in Australia who refers to those tiny Swiss Army knives that have a 2" blade, a nail file, a tooth pick and a set of tweezers as "a weapon." And she is glad that her husband no longer carries it with him in his pocket.

Yes, THAT STOOPID :hammer:

Yea, that little "weapon" got me in to trouble with the TSA at the airport a few years back. It was actually a mini Buck multi-tool on my key chain but there was no convincing them that it wasn't a menace to society. After going round and round I eventually took it off the my keys, handed it to them and told them to keep it .... kinda. :brows: My wife was convinced that I was going to be arrested.

"keep it" or "shove it up ...." ?

Doesn't matter, they are all a menace to society . . . ban them all :hammer:

Gee, I read this several times,..... no where that I can see, does it actually say anything about a law

See here ==> https://www.cps.gov.uk/legal/l_to_o/offensive_weapons_knives_bladed_and_pointed_articles/

When I went on my hike across England in May of this year I was STRONGLY ADVISED by some residents in the UK, as well as by the UK travel agent we used to book our rooms, that it was unlawful to carry a 'lockblade' knife or, in fact, any sort of knife on my belt, in a pocket, or even in a pocket on my backpack if it was accessable.

I could, and did, carry a picnic style knife. It was INSIDE my backpack, unaccessable by me without taking off my pack and unpacking it. That is apparently legal to do, provided it can be reasonably considered part of your cooking kit. I specifically chose a knife with a rounded tip because of their new laws on 'pointed' objects.

The newest push, as roughly described in the initial article, is to even dull/blunt the TIPS of kitchen knives you keep at home in your kitchen.

I always carry my Swiss Army knife even at home. It's amazing how often it comes in handy.

Seems to me that Brits are a submissive type, easily bowing to the lunacy of government. No wonder they need help fighting their battles.

How does the saying go?

Knives don't kill people. PEOPLE kill people.

That said, would a person carry a knife for self defense? I don't know about you but I would rather stop a assault at 15 feet (with a gun) than have to get intimate with an attacker using a knife. Sam Colt seems to have had a much better idea , no?

Yes, the world is getting very Stoooopid. It's insane.
