McDonald's bring the McRib sandwich back for the Holiday Season

Apparently people actually like these.

I don't know why.

Nothing about a McRib seems like a good idea to me. But to each their own.

CNN —
The McRib is returning to menus this holiday season – but don’t get used to it.
McDonald’s announced Wednesday that its famed boneless pork patty sandwich will be available again starting December 3. But, as always, it will only be for a limited time.
And the same goes for another fan-favorite fast food item, Taco Bell’s Nacho Fries, which similarly hasn’t secured a permanent spot on the menu despite its popularity.
Instead, limited offerings like the McRib or the Nacho Fries disappear and reappear with no seeming pattern. Experts say that’s by design.
Beyond boosting profits, highly anticipated seasonal products like the McRib create excitement among fans and an opportunity for companies to play around with promotions.
On the other hand, a strategically timed rollout could also serve to generate positive newsabout the brand after bouts of bad press.
“This is the playbook for a lot of (quick service restaurants). Bringing back old favorites like the McRib is one of the tools that they use to drive interest and demand,” said Michael Della Penna, chief strategy officer at marketing and measurement platform InMarket. “It gets people excited about visiting. It gets people nostalgic when they remember the product and want to try it again.”

‘Like if Christmas was every day’

Basic supply-and-demand economics will tell you that a good chunk of the McRib’s popularity comes from its scarcity.
“Scarcity adds tension and excitement and anticipation,” said Stephen Zagor, an adjunct assistant professor at Columbia Business School specializing in restaurants and food enterprises. He says that if McDonald’s offered the McRib as a permanent menu item, “it would be like if Christmas was every day, and we would get bored with it.”
Nearly 30% of quick-service restaurant customers consider the availability of special promotions or deals when deciding between restaurants, according to research by PYMNTS.com, a financial services company. . . STORY CONTINUES AT CNN link above.

I'm with Doc. I used to eat at McDonald's maybe once a year, if that, and I've never had a McRib. I used to get a cup of coffee and a breakfast sandwich when I took my car in for its annual service and the McDonald's was right next to the dealership. The dealership has now moved so, no more breakfast sandwich. I can live with that.

I avoid all fast food. Especially McDonald's. Last time I ate there (over 10 yrs ago), I ordered a fry n big Mac and instead got the mcshits for 3 days.

I used to go to McDonalds once a year. There used to be one next to the car dealership that serviced my car and I used to walk over there for a cup of coffee and a breakfast sandwich while it was being worked on. The dealership moved to a new location so now I drink their coffee and wait around. It doesn't look as if I'll be in McDonalds any time in the near future.

Like NR, I basically avoid all fast food.

We only go to McDonalds when going on a road trip. Stop just for breakfast.
I get sausage egg mcmuffins
Wife gets an egg mcmuffin.
Two large coffee.
That's it. Last time I had a burger there had to be over 25 years ago.

I had one many, many, years ago. BBQ sauce and a chunk of fat.
Did not like it.
I'll 'second' that sentiment. I do like BBQ pork ribs a lot and I'd heard several folks comment on how glad they were that McDonald's had brought back their McRib sandwich so I ordered one with a cuppa and sat down in a booth with some friends to enjoy this renowned delight.

UGHHHhhhh! It was if someone had trimmed a slab of squishy fat from a lean cut of meat, covered the fat in BBQ sauce and put it onto a bun. I swallowed that first bite and took another just to be sure of what I was thinking. OMG! NastyGrossFat!

I'll eat most anything even if I don't like it much because I hate to throw food away - but I DID throw the rest of that sandwich into the bin. It defies logic how anyone could eat one of those and say they liked it! I saw McDonald's in the news last week:

McDonald’s is being sued over their McRib sandwich because the plaintiffs claimed it does not contain any actual pork rib meat, according to multiple reports.

I refuse to eat at McDonald's. Last time I ate there approximately 10yrs ago, I got the mcshits for 3 days. Most fast food does that to me so I avoid it.

LOL, lol, ... I was with my neighbor a few years ago and we stopped at McDonald's on the way back home and he orders some stuff to eat. The kid there took his money and asked: "Do you want the sandwiches to eat here?"

"Nah, I'll take 'em to go so I can go home an' sit on my own toilet."

I know you are talking about McDonalds but honestly I don't even know why TACO BELL has a dining room. They really just need a bunch of bathroom stalls with tray-tables for eating while :poop::poop::poop:

Taco Bell is another place that I have been in once in 40-years. The only reason we went in then was that we were traveling, it was late at night and it was the only place open.
