My neighbor is going out of town and he asked me to pick up his garbage cans for him. He has three garbage cans for him and his wife! My family (4 people) barely uses 1 garbage can a week unless we have a party or holiday. I have another neighbor that is just a husband and wife and they always use 2 cans a week.

We compost everything that can be composted, and recycle almost everything that can be recycled.

So fess up in the poll - how much trash do you generate?

Recycling is not included in your weekly garbage load as far as this poll goes.

We hardly ever fill ours. It is one of the bigger "city" type where the truck picks it up. This is for the three of us(me, wife, son) in our house, and my MIL in the seperate Granny flat.

We fill recycle almost 2:1 over the garbage, and that does not count glass/plastic/aluminum that we take to the regular recycle for rebate.

We also do a lot of composting.

We generate 1.5 85-gallon trash cans worth of trash a week, plus 1 tub of recycling.

In Oregon we recycle all of the plastic, paper and metal.
We put old peelings, eggshells in the lawn recycle cart.
We have very little trash.

less than 1 30 gallon bag a week. Us and 2 other neighbors currently share one of the 90 gallon containers for weekly pickup -- and the single "crazy cat lady" generated by far the most waste. we also recycle glass, aluminum, paper, and cardboard. we try to avoid plastic waste as much as possible.

I rarely fill my wheelie bin each week and that is including the recycled stuff which goes in a separate bag in the wheelie bin. They 'bung' it all in together and tell us that it get sorted, but I wonder...........

Hardly any. My wife cooks everything from scratch, so there is very little useless packaging. Any bottles have to be recycled.

I do have an excess of garbage and oil when I change the oil in PV. About 16 gallons of oil have to be brought back to the recycle place. I'm thinking of just buying a 55 gallon drum of RotellaT, Delo400, or Delvac for the boat. At least two oil changes a season. 16 1 gallon containers takes up a lot of room and seems such a waste.

But other than the oil issues, less than one garbage can a week.
