I love these drifting threads. The collective bunch of folks represented here are giant smarter than the average meta addicted audience member. I have met many of you in the past decades. face to face regardless of views we are a super above average bunch of people.
I managed and operated and directed an ev program at my employer for a cooperative utility provider of water and electrical services provider in my region of WI. the scope of our grant ran its course and the project was scraped in 2019. what we learned in 20 years of collecting data is a book onto itself. I am not the person to articulate 20 years of successes and failures in a threaded conversation.
the discussion of technology is one thread.
the discussion of efficiency is another.
On Star can and always has been enabled to reduce a vehicle to limp mode. ( thread about personal rights and privilege here)
the basis for selection of which technology you use to accomplish a task is freedom. I am free to choose the process and application of *MY* various tools and the selection of these tools is based on my knowledge skill and ability.
I had a great conversation this summer in Wyoming with an sheriff who is a snow cat enthusiast. he stated that haul trucks at a mine in his region were making electricity. they diesel electric'd up the shelf road. trucks were loaded with material and then on the down hill return the dynamic braking charged the batteries, ( capacitors in his case ) then on the next run up the haul road the empty truck used 100% emission free energy to get up the hill. if you believe this (STOP) go back to basics. In high school the k-12 curriculum regardless of who presented it told you energy can not be created only changed. the more times you change the energy the more loss and inefficiency you have in the process. ( is said stop) Hear me out. If you feel the process can work if you ran the truck up and down empty both ways, you lose me. the reason you lose me is simple, you will never weigh more than the food you eat. electric heat is the same argument. If you feel its more efficient to convert energy multiple times and some how have a net gain you need to study harder.
these couple statements got me to type and toss pebbles into the stream of knowledge flowing here.
I'm able to manufacture my own electricity at my house. ( by converting silica and germanium to Dc electric ( pv), spinning magnets and loops of wire, By geothermal, nuclear, hydro, or wind? Piezo electric?, static? thermocouple? Chemical?) Just converting energy has loss please account for it.
That's something that just can't be done with a gas or a diesel vehicle for an extended period of time. USA produces a lot of biomass that can be converted. whether you cook it through a still or let it rot for a few myriennium ( i had to google that) it can be done with loss. Please account for it.
Yes you could run a diesel for a short time till the fry oil ran out. ( redundant see above)
But unless it's an older vehicle without a computer, there's no way you're going to get it to run on wood gas. Any one who pays attention to my rants knows I have no use for aftermarket electronics as an answer to ignitions on old equipment. I carry a points version distributor for every vehicle i have that can accept a distributor. If it cant I am prepared to drill a hole and put a inductive prox on a pin in a flywheel at Top dead center. then use another that looks at the teeth on the fly wheel to find a spot to fire a simple coil pack at the right time. sucking wood gas into the intake is simple enough.
Teslas are quickly passing prius' as the most affordable newest used cars. Go onto any commercial insurance sales site and search. they are loaded with cheap teslas and prius automobiles each and everyone of them needing service that exceeds value. What is the point? this is Exactly the findings of our project. our solectria force, 3 phase AC with regenerative braking test bed had three different battery technologies vetted on its chassis. it was better each time. and the human element was the demise each segment of the testing. if you are going to pontificate about how some how the three phase ac electric motor has improved since Henery fords wife drove a car that was charged by one........ Just stop.
electric propulsion is a tool that has its place. It is not saving anything measurable at any point of its use. it is just transfering the loss to somewhere you can't see or smell it.
I submit this final drivel about alexa,,,,,,,
there was a gentlemen by the name of yul kwon Ph.D Here authored a glorious report on the status of the US energy infrastructure.
Try to find it!
Our modern electric power grid has been called the biggest and most complex machine in the world – delivering electricity over 200,000 miles of high tension transmission lines. In this third episode of America Revealed, host Yul Kwon travels around the country to understand its intricacies, its vulnerabilities, and the remarkable ingenuity required to keep the electricity on every day of the year.
Seriously Try to find this project and its thesis.
we are being censored and hearded.
Just my $.02 worth
