Been on a low carb diet

I did the Atkins thing years ago. It did everything they said it wound do. Phenomenal weight loss, cholesterols all falling in line, blood pressure down, more energy, less sleep.
But then I fell off the wagon
I started doing it again a few weeks ago. I've lost 30 pounds so far. And never hungry for a second. I'm on bp meds. I checked my bp the other day. With the meds I was between 120to130 / 65to80.
108/70 yesterday. Average of 3 tests. Lowest I've ever seen.
Have a 6 month appointment already scheduled for this coming Monday. I'm guessing he'll be lowering dosages?
I want to lose another 20 pounds too.

I didn't go the full Atkins thing. I just reduced my carbs. I've been experimenting with what i can eat without gaining. Once i get to 190, I'm getting a giant root beer shake made with real ice cream just to see how that messes me up.
The other day i had a big local bar cheeseburger with a light beer. Didn't seem to have an effect. I'm thinking i can splurge once a week and maintain.
I'm 5'10" so my doctor will probably say I have to get to 160, but nope, that's not happening.

I eat carbs but they are all natural carbs ... rice and fruit. The type of carbs makes a huge difference. If it's refined, avoid it. I get the five pound fruit tray at the grocery store and force myself to eat it before it goes bad. I don't have any room left after that for shitty carbs. Occasionally, I'll splurge and eat crap when out socializing but it usually makes me feel like shit.

I'm 5´10" and around 205-210 but I also have been weightlifting for 40 years so I have a lot of muscle. I don't float when I go swimming.

So are you also counting calories and/or measuring portion size of the proteins and fats that you eat?

I lost 35 lbs during three bouts with COVID. Down to 170 LBS from 205. I gained some of it back to 195 but now, with some discipline, 175 to180.

I'd like to lose 20 more but this time, I think I'll avoid the COVID weight loss program. More chicken and red meat with less carbs. Hard workouts with activities in the garden and house improvement projects.

For me mostly means no bread and no potatoes. Used to have these almost every meal.
And pasta. No pasta.
I do miss the occasional pastries, rum raisin ice cream, or a giant root beer shake.

I am lucky. I don't really have much of a sweet tooth. I don't even put sugar on my oatmeal cereal. So, staying away from sugar stuff is easy.
Pasta is a whole nuther matter.

I've been cheating lately; it's summer ya know!
Anyway down another 5 even with pizza, gyros, potatoes. Etc.
So 35 total so far.
Is much easier to get to the bedrooms on the third floor.

During my second round with COVID, I went from 205 LBS to 175 LBS in a little over a week. Most of that loss had to have been water weight. Once I recovered, I regained most of that weight.
But if I could get there at all it was worth the attempt to do it on purpose. After all that was my weight when I was a firefighter. And you all know how those guys eat. Food is second only to sex. And food we can readily get.

So, I am challenged to get there. It is realistic and reasonable. However, I don't want to get there by losing muscle mass.

At 78 years old, that is my biggest worry.

Today I am at 180 LBS m/l every morning on the scale. From there, 15 LBS seems a lot.

I need to get back on a healthy eating and exercise routine. I did that and got down to 178#, now I'm back up to 200#. The 22# took over a couple years to grow back, mostly around my belly, but it's been time of pain arthritis pain which is why I've not been doing my daily exercise.

Low carb does seem to be the way to go for diet. Protein helps build muscle so when exercising it's good to have protein. Carbs seem to come to me via noodles, rice and candy. I can live without the candy, live without rice, but damn I do love pasta.

Yes, the pasta is a killer. Fwiw, I do get pizza but don't eat the crust. Not really pasta but brings back memories.
Wife is polish, but when we lived in chitown, had an Italian neighbor who taught her how to make Lasagna from scratch. Even the pasta. Damn is that good.
I still have carbs, just not a lot.
Cottage cheese in the am. 5--10 carbs
Salad with whatever I eat for protein. Has some veggies in it so about 5-10 carbs. I pick dressing that had 1-2 carbs.
Later at night I'll eat a bunch of grapes so about 10 carbs.
I'm not hungry at all.
I'll snack on salted cashews so I get some salt.
It works.

I have a bad sweet tooth and when I try to avoid sweets, even my favorite go to of watermelon won't help me stop obsessing over sweet things. How on earth do you stop the cravings?
