I did the Atkins thing years ago. It did everything they said it wound do. Phenomenal weight loss, cholesterols all falling in line, blood pressure down, more energy, less sleep.
But then I fell off the wagon
I started doing it again a few weeks ago. I've lost 30 pounds so far. And never hungry for a second. I'm on bp meds. I checked my bp the other day. With the meds I was between 120to130 / 65to80.
108/70 yesterday. Average of 3 tests. Lowest I've ever seen.
Have a 6 month appointment already scheduled for this coming Monday. I'm guessing he'll be lowering dosages?
I want to lose another 20 pounds too.

I didn't go the full Atkins thing. I just reduced my carbs. I've been experimenting with what i can eat without gaining. Once i get to 190, I'm getting a giant root beer shake made with real ice cream just to see how that messes me up.
The other day i had a big local bar cheeseburger with a light beer. Didn't seem to have an effect. I'm thinking i can splurge once a week and maintain.
I'm 5'10" so my doctor will probably say I have to get to 160, but nope, that's not happening.

I eat carbs but they are all natural carbs ... rice and fruit. The type of carbs makes a huge difference. If it's refined, avoid it. I get the five pound fruit tray at the grocery store and force myself to eat it before it goes bad. I don't have any room left after that for shitty carbs. Occasionally, I'll splurge and eat crap when out socializing but it usually makes me feel like shit.

I'm 5´10" and around 205-210 but I also have been weightlifting for 40 years so I have a lot of muscle. I don't float when I go swimming.

So are you also counting calories and/or measuring portion size of the proteins and fats that you eat?

I lost 35 lbs during three bouts with COVID. Down to 170 LBS from 205. I gained some of it back to 195 but now, with some discipline, 175 to180.

I'd like to lose 20 more but this time, I think I'll avoid the COVID weight loss program. More chicken and red meat with less carbs. Hard workouts with activities in the garden and house improvement projects.

For me mostly means no bread and no potatoes. Used to have these almost every meal.
And pasta. No pasta.
I do miss the occasional pastries, rum raisin ice cream, or a giant root beer shake.

I am lucky. I don't really have much of a sweet tooth. I don't even put sugar on my oatmeal cereal. So, staying away from sugar stuff is easy.
Pasta is a whole nuther matter.
