Add Remove Programs

thcri

Gone But Not Forgotten
I have an XP Pro computer and I want to uninstall a few programs. However when I open up the program Add/Remove Programs it only shows like 5 or 6 programs. It does not even come close to listing a 1/3 of the programs on the computer. Any suggestions to show the rest?

I'll take a swag at it. If XP does not know about the program you should be able to either run the uninstall that is provided with the software or simply delete the .exe file you no longer want.
As far as I know everything I have gone through the install process with shows up in the Add/Remove programs window.

on the left there should be 4 options for view -- try clicking on the top one to see if it popuates the list better. (I also check thre "updates" box at the top of the screen)

I have played with all the boxes on the left and the top. For some reason it gets to program files alphabetically down to "D" and then stops. The programs I want to uninstall don't have a link to them for uninstalling.

Sure sounds like there is an underlying problem. Is there something else wrong ....is that the reason you are trying to uninstall programs?

OK Murph, I think I can help you with this one as mine only goes down to "D" as well.

Look at my picture below. Take the thing circled in RED and while holding down your left mouse button, drag it down. :hide: :bonk:

Ok I lied, it only goes down to "A" and you can scroll the right bar all the way down and nothing is there. And for the most part if you do scroll the right bar all the way down when you let go of the mouse it jumps back to the top.

I feel your pain Steve.
I had a bunch of programs that I had no idea about how they even got there, so I used a remover and accidentally got rid of some very vital stuff.
For a month I was without a driver for sound, and my monitor kept puking out and going black.
Good luck!

I was only kidding Murph...

If you haven't already done so, I would start by running full scans of all your anti-virus, malware, spy stuff and whatever else you have to clean your computer.

Have you tried booting in safe mode or booting from a CD?

Obviously, something isn't right...

Hey Murph?
Uhhhhhhh, if your "scroller" jumps back to the top when you let go of the mouse, the list may still be "populating". After you open that box, leave it go for awhile and see if you don't see more programs.
Just my $0.02 worth, which is adjusted for inflation.

I was laughing with you :yum: :yum:

Naw that has not worked either. I left it there over night a couple of nights ago and the next morning it still didn't fill in. I will give BC's idea a shot and see what happens.

Sweet..................just checked my machine. There is something that Vista Home Premium didn't require new drivers for. My list had all kinds of removable crap listed in it.:yum:
