Ok and for all you funny people it was NOT our forum member :bam:

We went to a sushi bar. My wife LOVE's the stuff... I was coerced into going and trying sushi. As in that's what I HAD to eat... I don't see what the fuss is all about. People RAVE about the stuff. My WIFE rave's about the stuff. I could eat it... one of them was OK, but nothing that knocked my socks off. I don't know. I don't get it. Back to the habachi grill for me....:thumb:

Uncooked fish is "BAIT" and it is for fishing with.... When it is cooked, then it is dinner....

Actually Foggy... something like 70% of Sushi menu items ARE cooked. We don't order anything raw...

And Sushi buddy... I will pay for your Sushi every time I get a lap dance from Jessica Alba.:punk:

I guess I said it all!!!!

Its an acquired taste thing .... I really enjoy it ..... but its got to be fresh and done right . Its made right in front of me while I wait :chef:. Old Sushi taste like old Sushi ...yuck .
Just like with liver ... its got to be fresh . .... but I still hate liver

I think it's an acquired taste. Many people didn't like their first taste of whiskey. In fact, many "learned" to like it by putting a splash of milk into it.

Due to my job, I go to places serving sushi. I was like most rednecks, after all, why should I eat bait?

A group of friends and I have been going to The Ginza of Tokyo here in Madison. They also have a sushi bar. I bring real-deal Japanese knives, I try the sushi in return.

Now granted, there are some examples I do not like. While I like things like spicy chili and Cajun food, I like the milder sushi. I am trying more spicy dipping sauces.

Give it a try. As a boy I got spooked when my Mom ate smoked fish. Then I tried some with rye bread and butter...

You know..... everytime you capitalize the "s" in sushi, you make it formal as in a NAME. So....... you guys are SICK! :ermm::poke:

LMAO I know. I was doing it on purpose. :yum:

Maybe it IS an acquired taste. I WILL eat more of it. We will go back plenty and I can munch off her plate. I am in no way writing it off, but so far it's just something I tolerate.

You know, i share your disappointment. I love cultural foods, and I'm into Asian cuisine. I have many friends who love the stuff. So i went to a restaurant and they had sushi, all raw items (they had tofu sushi too) So what did i do? I grabbed the shrimp roll, the crab roll, fish roll, and the tofu roll. I tried them all and you know what? It tastes just like what you'd think it would... raw fish, wrapped in rice and seaweed. I was really disappointed
everyone talked as if it was a big deal... like it didn't taste like that, because i always asked "Doesn't it just taste like raw fish?" answer was always "No. blah blah blah". *Sigh* Alas... it's on my list of don't repeats. lol

since I spent a winter prepping fish for the seafood case, I don't eat raw fish and I tend to avoid tuna. I also can't stand the taste of wasabi. That said, I don't mind many of the smoked meat offerings at a sushi bar, but my overall impression is it's no great shakes. Teppanaki (sp?) steak houses are a lot of fun for the presentation, however, as is Mongolian BBQ.
