What are you doing today, II

As little as possible as I have a lingering head cold that won't quite materialize itself. Splitting headache. Feels like a stuffed nose but can still breathe. Throat starting to feel scratchy. Yes, it's the start of a mancold. Guys...you can relate.

Still eating leftovers.

Dealing with the aftermath of my sister in laws crash of her car, there was a lot of bitching and wailing last evening in my living room; I took a glass of bourbon up to he bedroom, shut the door and watched TV while the ladies "commiserated" and "lamented" over the loss of the vehicle, who's fault it was, how "unjust" it is, the threats of "lawsuits" etc etc etc

Getting out the Christmas decor and tree today. Actually started that yesterday, but only the dishes and a couple bins. Got probably 10 to 12 bins out, probably 30 more to go.

Thanksgiving decor was put away yesterday.

I was supposed to drive 90 miles to campus yesterday but cancelled. The team held practice without me. As we had gotten 2 snowfalls within the past 72 hours, I didn't want to deal with blowing and drifting snow. Mostly I used that as an excuse to get out of going. My coaching contract allows for me to use my discretion.

Coaching at the club this evening.

Sitting in my recliner wasting time on forums. Wife had had a head cold for a few days. So we missed going to the gym since Thanksgiving.
I take vitamins every day - a mulit gummy, C, D, and Zinc. I overload on C.
This is the second time she picked up a cold and I didn't even though we are always together, do everything together. So exposed to the same things. Finally convinced her to start taking vitamins.

One of the things I hope to do is bring EVERY BIN of Christmas decor out of the crawl space. There are many down there that have not been used in years. So every year we buy more bins and add to the pile. It's getting full down there. My goal is to see how many of those unused decorations I can pack into the bed of the truck and then deposit that stuff at the local charity shops, hopefully never to return to my home again.

did the horse chores, I’m in the recliner too waiting for it to warm up a little out there to clean up there poop.
Then work on the truck.

Cheers. It's a balmy -12 celcius with a windchill of -25. The sun is shining. I just harvested my first buck this morning. I have it hanging in the garage. I have to drive my daughter to piano lessons and son to work then I'll be out in the garage skinning and butchering.

Picked up my youngest Granddaughters from the sitter because they were sick.
Dropped them off at home after Ty and Felicia got home from work.
Then I shopped at Kroger in Defiance, since I was already there.

Installing Insulation on the north garage Gable wall. The original builder placed the cedar siding directly on the studs without building board. So, it leaks cold air into the garage second floor where my grandson's new sleeping room is located. With temps in the teens and a little wind, it gets really cold up there.

No need of interior finish. Instead of drywall, I am using foam board for the inside wall covering.

All I have left to do tonite is the baseboard that seals off the bottom of the wall

THIS WEEK PLUS IN REIEW its long!!!

Last Friday then Saturday 11/29 early (2:00AM) I ended in hospital with shivers cold sweats fever of 101 left calf and ankle swelled up I thought it was cellulitis.

The ER all they were worried about was my heart and pulmonary embolism, EKG and CT scan later not a problem.

I insisted they check for TED in my leg (they hadn’t even looked at it) even though I complaining about the leg pain and swelling, so they did an ultrasound no ted blood flow is good in all the veins and artery this all done by 6:00 so I asked about my meds and breakfast and where do we go from here with treatment??????? I ring the call bell for more information at 9:00 they say someone will be in.

12:00PM I’m still waiting for everything ring the call button again and remind them that at 9:00 I called and still don’t have a response they say they will check it (this is all through the speaker, not in person)

1:00PM finally someone came in and checked on me they said all the tests they ran were fine “did I want to stay or go home”? I said what do you plan on doing if I say???? What about the leg pain and swelling, they said they would have to call someone about that, I got a little indignant and reminded them I called at 9:00 and well we’d be 3 hours sooner getting someone and what about my morning meds and breakfast and now lunch????? And I haven’t slept since I’ve been in here because of no CPAP.

Crickets

They said I guess you want to go home, I say I want swelling and pain in my leg to go away.

Crickets again

So, I said can you have a plan and someone here in an hour to address the leg problems, or I’m going home.

They were in for final exam to paperwork to be discharged with instructions for taking tylon for pain.

15 minutes later I’m heading home with a stop at WAWA for some food and liquid refreshment.

The rest of Saturday and Sunday sitting in my recliner leg propped up to get swelling Down napping because sleeping in bed hurts every time I move and wakes me up.

Monday I called family DR he didn’t have any appointments today but another one had an opening I went to sew him. He put me on Keflex for the cellulitis I asked about steroid to accelerate the recovery then I get “steroids aren’t indicated for this citation”.

Luckily Monday was a no school day so no work, Tuesday we had a snow storm so we had a snow day luckily for another day to recover. Worked the rest of the week with a leg swelled like an infant elephant

Fast forward to today leg swelled is like an infant elephant. Dug in to my unfinished prescription stash found some steroids started to self-medicate since their “steroids aren’t indicated for this citation”. Leg is a little better time will tell.

Monday making an appointment wit my regular dr I don’t care if it’s a week out.

Sounds like you are having a rough day. Good that they ruled out blood clots.
If you have cellulitis, you will need antibiotics. Do you have an antibacterial cream you could rub on the skin?
Yes i have little bit of silvadene but no they never suggested that the ER, or DR im adding that to my self-medicate cocktail!

Cutting out the old roof from the original builder that I had left abandoned under the new roof I built when we remodeled the original burned out house.
In this case, the original builder used 1/4"plywood instead of the 3/8 minimum required by code.
He had done this in several places where it was unlikely an inspector would check. I kept it in case I got into a hassle with building code enforcement myself.

Most of my roof is now 3/4" plywood. I either replaced the original or laid a second layer of 3/8" over the top before I set new shingles.
All additions got 3/4" or 1/2" minimum. Always Plywood, not waffle board.

I am continually amazed at the shortcuts and violations I run across when working on this house.

That was my first thought as well was a blood clot as I've had one and my leg was swollen.

I spent the day processing deer meat yesterday. I got the carcass stripped bare and went to go dump it in our local dump and was told the municipality no longer allows the dumping of animal carcasses at the dump. Ok? New one on me. So I had to drive a half hour out to the woods and dump it along a bush road. The wolves and coyotes will be feasting. I still have approximately 30lbs of meat left to finish packaging.

I didn't get that far i got out of bed to go to the bathroom came back in and walked in to the end of bed it hurt like heck, grabbed my go bag and back to ER and I wasn't there 45 minuets gave (wish they were on last week) me a different antibiotic, steroid and they called them in for me to pick up today he suggested i find a compression sock that fits over the elephant leg and take more water pills.
went to walmart no socks on to pharmacy to get meds and home to elevate my leg as much as possible.
in the process i found an old stretched out old compression sock put that on for about 6 hours so far and its defiantly working.
ill wash it tonight for tomorrow.

I really hope you get it sorted soon. Being I'm pain sucks. I get it. I just received the results from my back x-rays last week. Dr scheduling me for an MRI on lower back for possible surgery to repair collapsing disc's pinching on nerves going to my legs. I was walking fine earlier and twisted slightly feeling a pop in my lower back followed by immediately losing feeling in my legs and feet.

No kidding.
I fell today while taking a walk.
Banged the crap out of my right knee.
It's okay.
Ice is nice (in this case).
You got that right.

Three weeks ago, my wife and her sister were coming off the boat after a 1-week Caribbean cruise. She was toting all her luggage, tripped and fell, landed on her elbow. Smashed her elbow. 2-weeks ago they put in a plate and seven screws. We have to go back and see the surgeon on Wednesday. Looking at weeks of recovery and many more weeks of PT. Our house has been miserable lately.

Winter blast coming. Starting tonight, we're not supposed to get above 15° until next week.
Of course... the furnace quit this morning.
Heading out now to get more firewood in the house. With both stoves going, I should be able to keep the house temps at least in the 60's.

I just lit the stove, an hour ago.

We pretty much stopped burning wood seven years ago. We finally got caught up on all our bills and could AFFORD the propane..... plus, I needed back surgery, so we stopped burning wood for four years. But the past THREE years, we've been supplementing..... only burning for six weeks, or so. (My back is much better, now). Last year's ice storm left TONS of firewood scattered around our neighborhood. I have as much wood cut and stacked as I've had the last two seasons, combined. We should be good until the end of February. (I love having backup heat... just in case).

That wood stove saved our ass for ten years while the kids were young. Propane was wiping us out. Now that they're grown and gone... life is much cheaper.

But a wood stove is a must-have..... I always have "emergency" wood stacked up, just in case. (y)

I am a bit of a housekeeper today. Holidays coming up, we need to super clean the place so people will be convinced we live like this every day. :ROFLMAO:

Makes me glad I was born a man and didn't have to worry about the mundane daily challenges of life as a house wife.

I'm a little confused. Do you have wood to last until February or well beyond?
How did the kids change the heating?

I have wood, probably, until the end of February. I have enough to get us through the coldest part of winter. NOT using the furnace for two months or so saves me about $600.00 to $700.00 for the season.

Children cost money..... having to pay for the needs of offspring makes "the cost of living" much more painful. Now that they're Adults... they pay their own food, electric bills, gasoline and entertainment in THEIR OWN homes.

Cutting wood for free, to burn for home heating ... means fewer tanks of propane to pay for. (And cutting firewood is probably the best cardio I ever get, anymore).

Our house is heated with NG. However, we have two fireplaces. One is a standard fireplace which came with the house.
I should have upgraded when we rebuilt the place. Budget Comptroller (MIL) said no.

When I finished off the lower level, I installed a 'Hatilator" in the main room. When running it heats the lower level and some comes upstairs to the main floor thru the open stairwell. Essentially, we could heat the house with the two fireplaces.
Perhaps with the addition of a few electric space heaters.

I have about thee face cords of oak and Ash firewood stacks. Another face chord still piled up as six-foot logs.
Not enough to heat all winter but enough to assist on really cold days and nights. Or just for ambiance.
Come February/March I have some large branches of oak still hanging in the tree to be trimmed out.
Already scheduled to be done before "Oak Wilt" season which starts in April.

I won't burn much of them in the fireplaces but, we do have twelve pine logs some 30" in diameter. Mostly for the patio fire[it but a few will go thru burning in the house fireplaces.

I also love splitting wood for cardio benefit. And the bonus of anger management.
