What are you doing today, II

We've got an all day planned power outage as they're switching over to a newly installed main line this summer. I'm not bothering with the generator. We have lots of water stockpiled. Cooking isn't an issue as I have the gas grill and BBQ on the deck. The gas fireplace is going for heat.
 
Looks like rain and cool weather on tap for today. Temps are already at the daily high (55F) and supposed to be dropping from here. I'm getting ready to head out the door to go to Church.

Later this morning we hope to get Kobe to the Harvest Thyme Farm, a small local attraction, if the rain holds off.
 
Monday I got back into the swing of coaching fencing after taking a week off for my birthday and for an XL weekend with Kobe.

So morning I spent making an Epee 'Point Control' target. Fiberglass flexible poles, with Tennis Balls mounted on top. I made a couple of them. Each was approximately built on a base that was 2' wide by 4' long. Each had a handful of 4" by 4" cubes made from a scrap lumber post. Drilled some holes in the 'cubes' and screwed them to the bases and then mounted some fiberglass poles in the drilled holes that were drilled into the 'cubes.' So that was the morning project. A couple coats of sealer, then a coat of white primer.

I made 2 of them. One more complex than the other.

This afternoon I also coached at the local high school.

1/2 of the kids were brand new. 1/2 of the kids were returning fencers. Of the 50% who returned, only a couple actually practiced over the off season so the ones who didn't were not worth 2 shits and now we have to fix their bad habits. So a bit frustrating.

This evening I worked with a local mid-50's judge who has a 'bucket list' to fence. 2 hour private lesson. He will, assuming he survived tonight, come back and work with me again on Wednesday. He did well, but when we were walking out of the club we have climb a set of stairs . . . . he said that was a challenge. I warned him it would hurt tomorrow. I guess it hurt tonight. But he said he had fun.

I had a 2hr dentist appointment this morning. The first of 2 as I'm getting a bridge on my bottom jaw to replace a tooth that came out last winter. I broke my jaw as a child and had a crooked tooth as a result. The roots of that tooth finally gave out 43 yrs later.

It's pouring rain and cold outside.
 
I worked last night and didn't get off until 7:30am this morning.

Then dinner?
Some crazy whim.
I wanted an iced coffee, so I went to Biggby.
Then the lightbulb in my taco brain went off, so there I was, pulling into Taco Bell 🙄😅

I got a chicken cantina burrito, 2 locos tacos, and some chips with cheese.
Bad me. Lol

More of the same today. Rain on and off. Only 6 degrees celcius. I had a good day despite the weather. It started with a massage then a trip to the city for a marketplace purchase. I'd been wanting a stand for my guitar amplifier and found one for cheap. Then home to make supper. Drove the two youngest kids to piano lessons and work. My son drove. He has his learner's permit.

Yea, well I had a beer shopping for new cars so there's that.

Don't think I'll buy German again. Awesome cars but they have their maintenance requirements to run pretty. Think I'll just stick with the higher end Mazda's with the turbo. Friggin fun to drive and super quick. That's all I need. I sold my E39 BMW on trade for a Mazda CX-5 Carbon Turbo. The E39 is one of the best cars ever made but for me, I don't regret trading for the Mazda (which is actually quicker).
 
An old school guy here.
But I agree, I would not even consider a new Benz or BMW. Way too much computers and screens and 250/hour labor rates.
The cars I have now, at 70 yoa, are my forever cars. I may sell one for something AMG or bi-turbo ( can't have too many of them you know) but pre 2010 or so.
I'm pretty good with Star diagnostics, but my brain ain't set for the newer stuff.
The Mazda should be fun!

We love our Mazda CX 5! Wish we would have gotten a Mazda sooner. We are on our second CX 5 because some A-hole ran a stop sign, broadsided our first and totalled it. No one was hurt which a tribute to their safety.
 
That sounds like a nice way to spend your day I have watched a few of Peter Santenello videos too and I like how he really shows what life is like in different places instead of just the tourist spots. It makes you feel like you’re actually getting a glimpse of the local culture. Which of his videos did you enjoy the most so far?
 
Friday is recovery day for me. Back to back fencing classes yesterday from 4pm to 8:30pm. While I only assist in the early class, I am still on my feet the entire time, hard floors + my arthritis don't mix too well. I am far more active in the evening class. So Friday mornings come too early and require coffee, a napping dog next to me and more coffee.

We pick up Kobe from school today, so 3pm sharp we will gather up the boy and bring him home for the weekend.

The lovely Mrs_Bob has plans at the local pumpkin patch for him for tomorrow, I have been 'uninvited' so if the weather is good I'll probably be working on building some steel raised garden beds.
 
Today, and this weekend, I'll be moving 3 young tomato plants into the greenhouse. And two mature ones that are still producing.
The green peppers plants from this summer are producing, so two of them as well.
Also, the cucumber and cantaloupe.

31(F) here when I got up. First time this season it was below freezing when the dogs went outside for their morning constitution.
 
We've had 4 or 5 frosts so far but it was only 37 this morning. Waiting for a good hard frost to freeze or otherwise disable the nest of paper wasps in one of my buildings. I'm sick of getting stung.
Getting small things done. Not getting more than a couple hours sleep/night so I'm really dragging ass the last several days.
 
Most of my activities today are in the greenhouse.
1) Repair or replace all of the damaged Bubble wrap used for insulation over the glass windows.
2) Clean the floor from the mess of summer.
3) Install the two heaters.
4) Move in the new Tomato, Peppers, Cucumber and Cantaloupe.

All are in pots and are staked or climbing a lattice.
All are currently producing fruits.

The green house is shaded all summer via mature deciduous trees. They lose their leaves come fall and the southern exposure of the Greenhouse gives them plenty of light. I supplement that with grow lights.

Sometime next week we will do the Hydroponics. That's where we do leafy greens.

I ended up spending a couple hours in my deer blind then went out scouting the woods and field behind the property for fresh signs of deer. There's a definite trail that passes through our yard through a trail and right past the deer blind. They use our yard as a corridor to a wooded area behind us that I have permission to hunt as well.

Then I made a trip to the dump and had some lunch before heading back to the blind for a couple hours this afternoon.

I had to pick up my son from work at 5.

The heat was not on at Church this morning. I was not wearing a heavy enough jacket. Froze during the early morning mass. Fr Rick said the HVAC repair guy is coming out later this week to get it working again.

Kobe will be going to grandma's house later today, but this morning is just sort of a relaxing morning of playing cars on the floor. I offered to take him exploring in the woods with the dogs but he didn't seem interested. Maybe yesterday was too much of a busy day for him, it was spent at the local pumpkin patch, which also has various carnival rides, a petting zoo and other fun for kids.

'Tis the season. Our church has an antique boiler system that was on the fritz earlier this fall. They must have gotten it fixed as there was heat last week. I skipped this morning as my wife and daughter were attending a different church in our parish due to a fundraiser breakfast afterwards.
