What are you doing today, II

My ragweed allergies are really screwing up my life the last few days. Voice is horse from coughing. Eyes are itching non-stop, I'm taking 24hour Claritin ever 12 hours and boosting that with either Benadryl or DayQuil. Blowing my nose constantly. Can't get a good nights sleep. The house is sealed up and I'm locked inside it. Only going out into the pollen to do things that are absolutely necessary.

Got up at 5:45am to drive to Purdue. Picked up some fencers at the fencing club. Drove 1/2 way to Purdue when the club President called me and told me that the practice is cancelled. I had arranged for 3 carloads of fencers to attend this practice. So I texted the other cars to stop. We were 45 minutes into our 90 commute.

Apparently one of the officers, at 3am, sent out a group message on their Discord to the team that practice was cancelled. He did not let the other officers know.
 
Got all the generators running yesterday... finally. Damn ethanol fuel.
Went to the pharmacy to get some prescriptions. Got a shingles shot while there. Got fresh gas, refilled the generators with fresh fuel plus SeaFoam.
May try to dig out a 55-gallon drum of straight ethanol/alcohol out of a back building. It's a 2-3 man job but I may give it a shot.
Oh, had to go to our other house as I was told the basement lights weren't working. It's a 3-way circuit but has a motion detector on one side. Just flicked the other switch back to the on position and all is well.
 
Still trying to wrap my head around a predicament my second oldest son got himself into. He's had a gf for a year now (he claims) that we've never met. He swore she was local.

A few weeks ago he announced that he is moving out into an apartment with her. Ok...little strange as she has never met us. A couple weeks ago He's in a panic as he was applying for a passport. He claimed that he thought he needed it to fly to Toronto for a few days with his buddies (who we've never met either). I dropped him off on Tuesday at the airport. He texted us to know he arrived and nothing else. Total silence. He was to return Thursday. Silence. We called the police to report him missing. We called his employer to see if they heard anything from him. He had emailed to call in to work.

He finally showed up at our place with a uhaul full of furniture. And finally came clean that his gf was actually a girl he met online from Nebraska. He flew down and moved her up here. They got to the border where she was turned around as she didn't have proper documentation to cross. Ugh. What a mess. Now, there's a uhaul full of furniture in our driveway. She's in a hotel in Duluth Minnesota. And my son is driving back and forth to see her. I'm at a loss....no words......

Yah. It kinda blindsided us both. We were in shock for a couple days. We haven't even seen him yet. It will be an interesting conversation when he gets home from work today.

I’m cleaning out stuff I don’t use anymore. Just sold 2 little 22lr rifles and about 5000 rounds of ammo. It’s a start.

Suffering from high pollen count with itchy eyes, runny nose and a cough. Claritin & Zyrtec cocktail seems to have cleared up most of it.

Don't use? You and Kobe could have a great time with (2) 22lr rifles and 5K rounds. I know my son and I would have a great time!
 
Trying to mow the lawn right now but even at 3PM, still lots of dew in shaded areas which makes it hard to mow and mulch leaves.
Otherwise, more shop cleaning and winter prep.

Have 3 slips in the yacht club, but separated from each other. There's an empty slip next to our favorite one, the one we keep the Carver in this year and payback next or until they dredge. I can't get our boat to our condo slips.
I contacted the owner but he wanted crazy money for it. But he did want to sell. We'd line adjacent slips so I could put the hydro hoist there and park the Whaler on it. Both of these slips are not really good for out-of-towners since there is no provision for a dock box or a table.
We do have a slip that has a dick box and table. And it's more marketable.
So I contacted him and laid it all out.
So today we swapped slips at the county building. Even Steven. He gets a slip he can sell easier, and I get adjacent slips.
Spent 100 bucks on the transfer.
The art of the deal
 
Day 2 without any internet connection. The cell tower 10-ish miles away carries our long range wi-fi antennas. The tower is down. Yesterday I had only occasional cell signal, mostly outage of cell too. As of last night the cell signal stabilized at "1 bar" so I can use the iPhone as a personal hotspot to at least get on the computer, albeit with a fairly slow connection.

Honey-do list today, I heard some mumbles about moving plastic bins. I already put away the pressure cooker.

Purdue fencing tonight.

Thankfully I hadn't started yet. 😅 We at least found out yesterday that the uhaul was empty sitting in the driveway and that he'd had enough common sense to rent a storage unit down in superior Wisconsin before coming home. And apparently she is going to live with relatives in North Carolina as her dad is dead and mom is a druggie. Who knows at this point but crisis averted somewhat. He still has a one year lease on an apartment he can't afford. So there's that to deal with. 🤔

Today is my upper management's birthday so I need to be on my best behavior 🤪. I do have a phone appointment this morning and our dryer is being repaired for the second time in 5 months. It had a new element installed in April which failed last week.

My son that is now 35 and taking over the family business did something similar a couple years out of high school, girlfriend lived in our area up the road, mouthy to everyone, one day they started sucking face in my living room and my wife said something, the girlfriend told her to suck her dick, wife said you have a dick? Suck your own dick, I said to my son, get her out of here and don’t bring her back. Son was upset we didn’t like her or take her shit. I had been withholding a few hundred from his paycheck weekly as he was saving for a down payment on a house, long story short, when he was tired of me ruining all his fun, he took his saved money 5k and rented a house with her, that lasted until he wanted her to help out with the bills and she moved back in with her parents and left him alone with a year lease, it took him around 7 years to save enough for a down payment again. Whenever I need to win an argument with him, I just bring up his first love and he shuts up. Love is blind but it doesn’t have to be stupid. It will be the family joke for years to come. I hope your son learned a valuable lesson, as it’s going to cost him some pain.
 
Just got home from Purdue.

Had fun. I have totally lost my voice, not just from today, but an accumulation of days of coaching. I hope nobody needs to actually talk to me tomorrow because I don't think I can answer.

Literally was to the point of whispering to the varsity captions tonight to get them to tell people what to do.
 
The internet self-healed late last evening while I was at Purdue.

Somehow my voice did NOT self-heal so I am whispering to the dogs this morning.

Of course the repair appointment is for this afternoon to swap out the hypothetically broken part I need to have replaced on my Power over the Ethernet box that charges up my rooftop antenna. I'm going to let that happen, the light on my POE box is actually non-functioning. So I get a service call and a replacement part with a newer unit (mine is 10-ish years old) and they charge $0.00 for the service call.

Probably going to start building some of the raised garden beds today. Tomato plants can probably produce for a bit longer but that location is the premium spot for bed #1 of the 6 8'x4'x2' deep raised beds so I will sacrifice some of the unripened tomatoes and start building the bed. It is modular, in a box, all the parts SUPPOSED to be in there. So we will find out how much grief the 'easy to assemble' kit is.

I've been staining and varnishing more wood for the house over the past week, it should all be ready to go. So we will see, maybe if the planter bed assembly goes bad I will switch to woodwork?

Either way, fencing tonight. And 2 times tomorrow. I have a meet-up at the fencing club with a guy in my shooting group, he will bring me money, I will give him a case of 9mm. Fortunately I am not coaching at the club so my voice can spend some time recovering?
 
I picked up the sxs from the shop this morning. They checked everything out and found it to be running fine but the temp gauge occasionally redlines without warning. So I came home with it on the smaller trailer and offloaded it then hooked up to my fifth wheel flat deck trailer to load it up onto for tomorrow. I plan on hauling it out to camp and going hunting before finishing closing up camp for the season. I want to haul our golf cart back as well as go hunting with the sxs. Now I can do both.

Loaded up for tomorrow. This is the maiden voyage for the sxs on the fifth wheel flat deck.

Working on my sxs as well.
Flat tire - had a tube put in and re-mounted.
Dead battery - I keep it on a trickle charger but apparently not a good one. It cooked out a lot of the liquid in the cells. Added distilled water and will see if the battery comes back.

Otherwise, doing small projects outside. Beautiful day so enjoying it.
 
Had a good day on my last project, got the equipment stripped out and will be going back in tomorrow with some different equipment then conveying. I’ll take some pictures tomorrow.
