We're all planted here. Put the palm trees out on the dock. All good. I get the lake affect. Here is 67 but where my building is about 3 miles inland it's 73

Is it BED time yet? Talk about "get me to the airport on time ". I left the house at 9:30am and dropped off my daughter at an appointment. Attempted a store. Back gave out on me. Returned the cart and back to the buick. It's running on a winter spare still at this point due to the tire issue yesterday. Back to pick up the daughter and back home to drop her off. Head to the shop and pick up the repaired tire. Back home to install it and repair a plastic skirting that was falling off. In the house long enough to whipe my face and refill my water bottle and off to get gas for the car and back to the airport to get my son from work. Bring him home next then back to the city. Ugh. I'm tired.
There. Fixed it. I'm tired. Lol. I made it back to the city and stopped for fuel then the airport. Back home to drop him off. Fill up the water bottle and use the washroom then back to the city to pick up my youngest son from school and bring him to a walk in clinic for persistent leg pains.

Here's the kicker and also saving grace for me. My daughter is sick but originally had an evening activity I had to bring her in for. I'm surviving on a meat stick and a piece of cheese today. It's all I've had time for. Now sitting waiting for the doctor.

Today is going to be loooong. 🥱 I didn't sleep well due to a sore lower back and shoulder. Limped my crippled butt out of bed at 5. Beat the alarm by 10 minutes and out to the car half asleep and in pain. Heated seats are great btw. 👍 It's 6:10am and I've got the first of 4 trips in. I half to bring my daughter to an appointment this morning, then back to the airport to pick up the second oldest and back home at 2 only to do a complete 180 after dropping him off and back to the city to pick up my youngest son from school and take him to a walk in clinic for a lingering sore knee. After sitting through that, I will be even more sore tired and most likely cranky because I have a rumbling tummy from sitting through supper.

Thankfully today is the last day of driving my son to work as he gets his license back Thursday and is off tomorrow. However I have an appointment as well as my daughter first thing in the morning. Somewhere in there I've been working on packing the fifth wheel for a fishing trip this weekend where I will finally be able to put up my feet and relax.

I came up with a solution to rest your back you ride along in the heated seat and let them drive:D

Good morning y'all. Today should be an easier day and a change of pace for me starting with a much needed physiotherapy appointment for my back this morning followed by some fun this evening at the local dirt track. It's finally first race day of the dirt track season here. I'll be helping out with changing tires and any repairs needed for the car. My brother's car has a new look this year.

That car looks fun, enjoy the day!!!

I'll be cleaning the pool and working on the garden.

Maybe go to the fencing, but I frequently take Wednesday as an 'off day' from the club.

Just a side note. It's been very dry since the snow melted creating extreme forest fire conditions. Fires have been sparking up throughout the region up here. We've been under a fire ban for a few days. It's supposed to rain Friday. We'll see.

The power went out last night around 11PM. Couldn't get back to sleep for hours. Thankfully, it came back on around 5AM so I didn't have to dig out a generator to make coffee.

I've been having a problem with a spring in the yard. I'm going to dig around and find the exact spot it's coming up then run pipe in a ditch to tap into the gutter drain.

Need to do some weeding. :(

I'll be moving a "Handy Stone" garden wall I built 20 years ago. Part of it had leaned forward which I fixed last week.
However, the repair made it longer and it doesn't match up to the original on one end.
So, today I will extend the repaired wall in a curve to enlarge the flower bed a bit.
This will make the repaired wall match up to the old.
Then, I'll plant Pansies and Marigolds
Walla!!!

I finally was able to devote more than 5 minutes to the boat this afternoon. Can you guess what I discovered.

The sidewalls were cracked. I figure 8 years is enough time for them. That's a heavy boat. New tires are installed waiting to be picked up in the morning.

I had a couple of bald spares and threw them on to hold it up as I didn't trust the Jack's and stands in the gravel.

Got the axels and ring gear with the spider gear carrier out of my Nissan frontier rear end today. The ring and pinion are trashed with the pinion teeth stripped and buggered off one side. I don’t know why it still drove or didn’t lock up. I don’t have the right size socket for the pinion nut, but was able to borrow one from auto zone and I’ll go after getting it off tomorrow.

Climbing to the 90's(F) today so I got up early and did a final tilling of the garden beds before the temps hit 70(F).

Put some beef short ribs in the smoker, that will be dinner . . . of course I won't be here, I've got a fencing class to teach. Tonight will be my last class for 2 months so I will get a bit more free time after today. I resume in mid-July. But I made plenty so there will be leftovers for me when I get home.

Still working on the pool, it needs to be vacuumed.

We have almost 100' of retaining wall, 5' tall. It was built 15 years ago. Sound but a bit dirty so the S-I-L and the lovely Mrs_Bob get the bright idea to power wash the wall. They fire up the gas pressure washer, let it run a while, THEN TURN ON THE WATER at the spigot. So near as I can tell they had the water pump spinning but there was no water in it to cool it down. My guess is I will be replacing the pump.

Lucky for me, they did this last year and I replaced it then.
So I have practice at replacing the pump. :smileywac

I explained, as patiently as an old man can do, that you turn on the water first.

Then I got the electric pump out and power washed most of the wall. Stopped for late lunch about 1:30. Job is 80% done. Probably finish it tomorrow. I need to go to the fencing club this afternoon, stay until about 9pm.

Progress, more progress. And sitting around doing not much too. Its hot and sunny so I'm working a bit, coming in to cool off, then going back out again.

So as of now, 7 of the beds have been weeded and tilled. 2 of them have been raked and then covered with 2 layers of weed barrier. Bottom layer is thick paper roll, top layer is permeable spun fabric barrier.

I'm not sure we will plant all 7 of the tilled beds, but I'd like to put, at least 1 layer of fabric barrier over all 7, even if we only plant some of them. I'd also like to cut down the weeds in the remaining 5 beds and get weed barrier over the tops of those, just to kill the vegetation and turn it into green mulch for the future.

The pool area retaining wall is now power washed. Looks pretty much brand new. Sadly I didn't take a "before" photo. But it was really dirt stained and dark. Melen is 30 years old this year, based on the fact that we put this pool in approximately the summer before (or maybe after) her freshman year in high school, the wall/pool have been here for 16/17 years. Probably should have washed it a few years ago?

Pool still needs to be vacuumed. Water temp is climbing. 91 degrees when I checked it about an hour ago.

Moved the the cantilever umbrella from the far corner sitting area, which we rarely use, to the opposite side of the pool patio so it can be positioned over our new outdoor dining table. Actually that was done yesterday. Today I moved it about 4' from the place where it was positioned yesterday. It was essentially centered over the table, but that didn't do a good job of shading from the afternoon/evening sun. Not sure if it is currently in the "perfect" spot, but it is in a better spot. So it might get moved again?

We were under the gun last night for a while for big storms coming, but thankfully that "Cap" was in place, so it all went north into Michigan.

Today I finalized all of my financial affairs through my bank.
Which has merged 3 times over the years.
It was only 3 years ago that it merged from First Federal to Premier- now it's WesBanco.
This has been a confusing pain in the ass since last month.
I was told nothing would change.
It would be a smooth transition.
I've got a new account and routing number.
I'm good to go with my retirement coming in, same with my pay from work.

Contacting England to make sure my survivor benefit comes in at the usual time has not been easy.
Emails (several) then I was sent a Convera form to fill out ( did that today).
That cost me a few pennies to get it in the mail in time for them to have the info on file.

Picked up a whole beef brisket this morning from Meijer. On sale for $3.99#

We have family coming in from out of town later this week, so when they arrive, I will cut off the "end" or "point" and turn that into Burnt Ends. The main 'flat' will be used for sliced brisket. Both with be smoked, but the cubed up point, is seasoned and finished differently than the flat.

I've already hung the lovely Mrs_Bob's new wind chimes . . . far away from the bedroom so I don't have to hear them at night! They were a mother's day gift.

The garden is waiting for me to get down to work. I had to pick up more fabric weed barrier at Tractor Supply. I've got more paper weed barrier. It's just a matter of getting down there to get the beds covered.

Yesterday the temps were in the 80's, today we are going to break 60(F) and it's windy. I like working outside in the cooler weather, but laying down the fabric & paper weed barrier in the wind is going to be "fun" in an unpleasant and frustrating way.

All of the tilled beds are now covered with weed barrier!!!

All, BUT ONE, have 2 layers of weed barrier. One only has fabric. The rest of them have paper + fabric.

There is also a hexagon shaped flower bed in the center of the vegetable garden, that has no weed barrier at all. But that is reserved for sunflower seeds that the lovely Mrs_Bob wants to plant there. Apparently she bought several varieties, heights, colors of sunflowers and has a plan. I can't put down weed barrier if she wants to seed it.

There are 5 remaining beds that remain untouched. No plans to plant them. But I will cut down the vegetation, till it in. Cover it with weed barrier. EVENTUALLY. Sure I will. At least that is the plan. If I get weed barrier down on those, like I have on all the others, it will make the job in any future year considerably easier should we want to go back to larger scale planting. I'm actually wondering if putting in something like blueberry bushes or other perennial crops, into those last 4 beds might be smart?

But for now, I'm just happy the other beds are ready for veggies.

Choose your weed barrier carefully. They're not all equal. ;)

I was doing general chores but circled around to digging holes for a pole building. My son gave it a go but I guess geometry isn't his thing as he missed where the posts should go. Digging through a foot of gravel kind of sucks. A pick-axe is my best friend today.

A pick-axe is my best friend today.

Hard pass.

No thanks.

I'd just set a stake, give the pick axe to a teenager, and watch from a lawn chair :sun1:

On the bright side of gardening, the lovely Mrs_Bob and I just got back up to the house from the garden. The zucchini, yellow squash, pickles, peppers and SOME of the tomatoes are planted and watered in. Still have the various honeydew/cantalope melons, winter squash, pumpkins, and watermelons, plus a couple varieties of eggplant.

Granddaughters College graduation today 2 degrees a BS in Information Assurance & Cyber security and a AS in Network and User Support. She has a job already down in Lancaster PA 2 1/2 hours away, Grammy is having separation anxiety already and it doesn't help her car isn't fixed yet and she'll need one of ours until it gets fixed.

Congrats!

Be proud. You all earned that right.

Graduation WITH A REAL JOB is a lifetime achievement. A sign that you raised them right, in this case for 2 generations.
