I could not help but notice lots of gay and lesbian characters on TV in the past 10 or 15 years. I figured it was Hollywood making a statement since so many of them are gay.

Maybe this is part of the reason .....what BS!!!!!

GLAAD: Fewer LGBT characters on primetime

The Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation has released its 16th annual “Where We Are on TV” report, which measures the number of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender characters on TV.

And while the shows that make up the 2011-2012 season might look promising, GLAAD says networks have taken a step in the wrong direction as far as inclusion is concerned.

Down 10 percent since last season, LGBT characters account for 2.9 percent of the scripted series regulars currently on network TV.

With 6.8 percent of regular characters identifying as LGBT, Fox came in first place, dethroning ABC - which had topped the list of inclusive networks for the past six years.

Perhaps ABC’s 3.4 percent of LGBT characters - including “Modern Family’s” Mitchell and Cameron, played by Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Eric Stonestreet, respectively - was no match for Fox’s power duo: “Glee’s” Kurt and Blaine.

Thanks to “True Blood,” “Boardwalk Empire” and “Hung,” HBO features the most leading and supporting LGBT characters on cable for the second year in a row.

However, the number of LGBT regulars on cable networks also dipped - from 35 to 29.

Though, GLAAD notes that on new shows like The CW’s “Ringer” and ABC’s “Revenge,” LGBT characters haven’t been introduced yet, and so they’re not included in the report.

Down 10 percent since last season, LGBT characters account for 2.9 percent of the scripted series regulars currently on network TV.

That's over double the percentage of "real-world" gays. What the hell are they bitching about? If anyone should complain it's the percentage of white basketball players in the NBA.

Maybe it's because non LGBT shows draw a higher audience count, therefore more sponsors, therefore more revenue.

I'd like to rant about the "Ts" (sorry Doc). I live in Massachusetts where we have multitudes of LGBs which I have no problem with at all.. But the Ts these are the men who want to use ladies rooms and women who want to use men's rooms. To the "Ts" I say make up your damn mind, decide which team you want to play on then join it. Until then stay where your body parts dictate so that child molesters and abusers don't use your indecision to hang in restrooms that my children use.

End of Rant.

No prob RK. I don't have a problem with any of them. I watch shows with them in it, and have never not watched a show because of a characters sexual preference. I don't care. I posted this as I am appalled that they have a lobbyist type of group pushing to get gays and lesbians characters onto the tube. The old saying give em an inch and they take a mile comes to mind.

I don't know about their exposure in TV programs, whether it has become prevalent or not. I don't watch enuff TV to make an indepth assessment. However, I do know that I would feel uncomfortable viewing, if it is as prolific as you say Doc.

The thing is, as an Artist, and often during my travels I work with, and integrate with Gays frequently, mostly guys. I have found them to be smart, quick-witted, intelligent, artistic, often side-splittingly and audaciously funny; just as in the make-up of heterosexual society.

To me, they are no different in human traits to the rest of us, and I admire many of them for their talents and contributions to humankind. Look at Oscar Wilde, how immensely talented, yet persecuted he was. He died a broken man, and he had so much more to give.

However, one area above all others has colored my perception of gays; and that is in a certain trait that many of them seem to bear, and which scares me to death. It is that some of them have terrible tempers, and I have seen, during my working relationship with them, that they will quite viciously, and in the flash of an eye, fight to the death, figuratively speaking of course, for the slightest reasons. I have been so frightened by such scenes that it has made me wary and extremely scared of them.

Having said that, they are so entertaining, especially in comedy, that they have a solid place in the entertainment business; they enrich our viewing, imho, so long as it is not turned into a political arena for their causes.

So what's next a gay dinosaur on Terra Nova?

They can put as many (LGBT'S):blahblah:as they want in any show or series they want,if it's any good people will watch it,if not, the ratings will reflect it and it will be canceled.if a lobbyist is involved there is money involved,JMHO.
