Ohio bans transgender drugs and surgery for children under 18 and blocks trans kids from participating in girls' sports

Ohio has outlawed transgender drugs and surgery for children under the age of 18 and blocked trans youngsters from participating in girls' sports.

The state's legislature today overrode the Governor and approved the ban that prohibits doctors from prescribing puberty blockers, hormone therapy and gender surgery for minors with gender dysphoria.

The bill will come into force in the next 90 days, with doctors who continue to provide care for minors risking losing their medical licenses.

The bill had originally been vetoed by Republican Governor Mike DeWine - but his intervention was overridden when a majority in the state's GOP-controlled House and Senate voted to overturn the veto.

Ohio has become the 23rd state to ban transgender care for minors, amid a wave of laws passed by Republican-controlled legislatures in recent years. It is also the 24th to outlaw trans girls from participating in sports at the high school and college level.

If you're not old enough to buy alcohol, you aren't old enough to decide your gender. (Actually, my mother decided mine back before I was born.) Seriously. Human beings are the only species on the planet that can wake up one day and decide to change genders and everyone else has to play along because it might be psychologically damaging to the child to contradict them.

If someone is transgender because they are not proud of who they are, there is a good chance they have some kind of problem and are looking for attention. They need to get to the cause so the kids can grow up thinking about their futures, instead of this.

True but, it is often the parents who suggest the transgender procedures. They need help including removal of their children from that environment.

Here is a simple guideline.

If you don't have a penis, but want to play ball, then play ball.
If you do have a penis, and don't want to play ball, then don't.

I should not feel responsible for recognizing your confusion.
And I don't.

I agree. That are things that parents can't do to their children and this should be one of them.

I had a transgender fencing against my girls team this weekend. He to she transition. No indication that there was any surgical anything done yet. Not sure about hormone treatments either, but visibly I'd guess either no treatments or early stages of treatment because, visibly all I saw was a dude with long hair and painted fingernails.

Kid was a lousy fencer. My entire girls squad easily won their bouts.

But generally speaking a boy and a girl with equal fencing experience is typically a lopsided win for the boy.

Perhaps the young man felt, by getting away with this cheat, he didn't need to practice and hone his skills.

Of course, his stupidity will add to his shame.
"My god man, you got beat by a girl?" :yum:

Well she/he competes at 'club' level so the 'cheat' really isn't going to work out very well. There are no real rewards or major accolades for club level athletics.

Given that she/he was 6 to 10" taller, with a potentially hugely longer reach and longer lunge than other girls, a bit of training could put this kid near the top of the club rankings. But this kid has minimal training, clearly a lot of beginner mistakes, so give a coach a year, and give the kids some experience and practice and results could be very very different. Two years out an even bigger difference.

There is just too much physical differential between the sexes to ignore the differences. I'm not saying he shouldn't be allowed to fence, especially in club level events, because the point of club level is that anyone should be able to join. I'm just wondering out loud if it is fair that an obvious male compete in the female circuit. In varsity team level sports there are various schemes of hormone testing and now there are some actual standards, but in club level sports I think if you just decide you want to "play for the other side" that is allowed.

You are being polite because you must.
Understood.

I don't have to be.

Any girl/woman who vanquishes a He-She-It, at any level or sport, gets kudos from me. Simply because of the advantages she must overcome. And the courage shown when she does so.

Its perverted and just not fair.
A lot of sports and competitions have gender separations because of inherent physical male superiority.
Competitions where-in natural physical build, in general, gives men an advantage.

Interestingly there are many competitions separated by sex that need not be.
Shooting competition is one.
After all, even the definition is listed as "a person."

A marksman is a person who is skilled in precision shooting. In modern military usage this typically refers to the use of projectile weapons such as an accurized scoped long gun such as designated marksman rifle (or a sniper rifle) to shoot at high-value targets at longer-than-usual ranges.

And yet we separate these contests by sex.

Let me tell you women could dominate this sport. My former landlord was a competitive shooter along with his wife. He freely admitted she was the better marksman. I know I've told the story of shooting frogs early in our relationship. My wife was ten times better tha me, if not more so.

Which, by the way, is why after 56 years, I have never cheated on her or foolishly made her mad. When skill and mental acuity account for
success, the sexes don't matter much, if at all.

But I thought feminism taught us that "women are just as good as men" and that "women can do anything a man can do" and in many way I tend to agree. And in some ways it is insulting to women to compare them to me. In other ways men are simply better, and those ways are typically physical.

And men are more emotionally stable, at least 1 week out of the month.
