Hey SNAPers!! Ya gonna have to reapply.

The Old Salt
Yep, the Trump Admin is going to make everyone currently on SNAP to reapply in an effort to clean out all the dead wood.

There are many people who truly benefit from it.
On the other hand....
Recently since the benefits have been gone over, I know some people who have directed truly needy people to food pantries until the those deserving are back in the system.

Those without big bags, being able to afford $6 coffees and buzzing around the grocery stores buying junk food.
🙄😵‍💫

I'm aware of welfare but had never heard of SNAP until this shutdown. Are the two programs similar?

from GROCK

Welfare is a broad term for a variety of government assistance programs for low-income individuals, while SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) is a specific welfare program focused exclusively on providing food assistance. "Welfare" can include programs like SNAP, but also cash assistance (often called TANF) for other needs like housing and utilities. Both programs are often delivered via an Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) card, but the funds on the card are designated for different purposes

Who are they going to reapply to? Lazy government workers.
You know. Like federal judges that let felons go 39 times so they can commit murder on the 40th time.
I have ZERO faith that's any significant number will be turned away.
So these people in local offices also know all the recipients as hood brothas and sistas.

Feeding yourself or family is on you unless your in a wheelchair.

Or mentally incapacitated.

Or a handful of other legitimate reasons.

But generally speaking I tend to agree with your sentiment.

We should not be subsidizing able bodied people who can work. A safety net for the disabled or otherwise 'unabled' people makes sense. Feeding people who choose not to work is not charity, it is not compassion, it is, in fact, morally wrong to support sloth.

Oh Man....... I remember the government cheese.

In 1984, a neighbor that we didn't even know came over and told us to come over and pick all the tomatoes that we could carry because we were getting a heavy frost, overnight. So we filled three or four paper grocery bags full of tomatoes. We had tomatoes in EVERY WINDOW of our single-wide, for weeks. (Months?)

Every day after school, I would make two HUGE tomato and government cheese sandwiches with mucho salt and miracle whip.

Man,..... those were the days. (You couldn't PAY me to eat a tomato sandwich, today).
