Slowly but surely the cutting edge 1930's technology is going together , my oldest is off this week so we should make some progress. But the mild weather is here and cutting wood in the bush in the winter sun may change the plan.Back at the 251 motor out of my first J5, finished replacing the valve guides today , hope to cut the seats tomorrow .The new intake guides fit perfect with a light ream after install, the new exhaust guides had to be cut and drilled on the lathe, as the bore was not big enough for sodium valves. I didn't have a 7/16 self piloting reamer for the exhaust guides , so made up a sleeve to align the reamer up through the lifter bores , worked good . My assistant was skeptical , but was wise enough to not bite the hand that feeds her .

Coming along nicely, oil pump to rebuild and install , then distributor and clutch/ bell housing . May be able to roll in the J5 and get a start on installing this week.Slowly but surely the cutting edge 1930's technology is going together , my oldest is off this week so we should make some progress. So engine is in, bit more to do before were stalled ,waiting for a rad. The rad I've been using was out of an m37 dodge, it needs to be rodded , and that's not on my favorite things to do list. So I ordered an aluminum 47-54 chev truck rad ,size seems right so we'll see how this works out.Coming along nicely, oil pump to rebuild and install , then distributor and clutch/ bell housing .
