Amazon vs Walmart

I'll admit, I HATE going out shopping.
I'd guess 90% or more of my purchases are from Amazon.
Drove out the other day to get cars in the shop for routine maintenance when it was 8° and both vehicles windshield wiper fluids were frozen.
OK, I need winter washer fluid.
Go to Amazon - They want $10/gallon or more for winter washer fluid. WTF?!?!?!?
For the heck of it, I checked Walmart. $3.75/gallon with free delivery over $35. I placed my $40 order and free next-day delivery.

I don't like Walmart (in person shopping) but I may have to do comparison online shopping going forward.

Although I do like and commend the genius of what Sam Walton created, AND, for 11 years 50% of my company's income was Walmart based, I also do not like shopping in their stores.
Crumpy, OTOH, likes to shop there.
So, I endure it.

Do you have to go with her? :)
I never go into the local Walmart. I do hit them when vacation traveling. Plane lands, get rental car then off to Walmart to get water, snacks... to hold us over for our travel time.

No, I don't. But if she is with me, she adds some class.
And, I can tolerate the place.

I go into Wal Mart, on average less than 1 time per year. Usually because I am told to go there for some specific thing.

I get most crap through Amazon. But I never trust their prices. They just usually have what I need.

If I can get it from Tractor Supply or Ace Hardware or Home Depot or ... then generally I favor those stores. None are miserable experiences to physically go into.

I only buy Mobil1 oil there. Only around 28 per 5 qt container.
All the parts stores are 33 bucks or more.
Otherwise, I avoid Walmart.

We have 5 Walmarts all within 35 mins of our house. All in different directions. We do grocery shopping at the smallest Walmart. To give you an idea how small, it only has one entrance. We used to go to Krogers but ours has gone to crap. It's a shame. I won't go in that store. Piggly Wiggly is an option less busy but a good bit more expensive. Aldi's is another option but we don't like that either. So it's Walley World. We go there once ever 3 weeks and do big shopping. We do hit Piggly Wiggly and the butcher some during the three weeks between shopping trips.

Aldi for us. Anything special there is a chain here called Martin's.
As for Amazon, I have time on my hands, and there's not much I buu on Amazon because I can find it cheaper elsewhere. Funny thing is, most of it comes in an Amazon box.

I like Martin's and used to shop there a couple times a month when Dasha was at Notre Dame. Nice small chain of grocery stores. Not sure, but it might still be locally owned.

Melen now is a corporate lawyer for Aldi and we have one in town, and another across from the fencing club. I shop there often.

I like the Walmart in Wauseon better than the one here.
That said, I've found that Walmart varies from city to city.
It's got a bad reputation among some people who believe they are too uppity to shop there.

I also like Kroeger, Meijer, and a place in Toledo called Walt Churchill.
Now that place is the bomb!

In st Louis we have Aldi, Kroger, Fresh Thyme, and a few of the national chains.
We also have Local chains , Schnuck's, Schaubs and Dierberg's.
Schaubs and Deirberg's are high end and expensive.

Schnuck's has spent the last 80 years kicking most of the competition out of town. For the record, I used to work there. Great employer.
From stockboy & bagger to assistant manager before leaving St Louis to become a production worker in a large Chicago printing plant.
In the six years we opened about twenty new stores.

Now that we again live in St. Louis Mo, I am sorta loyal to them. For groceries. Crumpy likes Walmart for general shopping. Schnuck's is now a regional chain with stores in much of MO, Arkansas and southern Illinois.
Best meat in town. Decent selections and prices

I also hate going out to shop, but Amazon can get really bad on prices for big, heavy liquids because of their shipping cost model. For things like washer fluid, cat litter, or even cases of soda, local stores like Walmart or Target often have better online prices with free shipping minimums. It's annoying, but it proves you have to check more than just one site now.
