What are you doing today, II

Not sure what I am doing today. No real plans.

Got home from Purdue about 12:20pm and I was really tired. Let the dogs out, blah blah, was asleep by 1am. Woke up a bit after 7am to a cold house. I was smart enough to close the windows, but maybe should have switched on the furnace? Today will top out just above 60(F) degrees. Closed windows and open drapes will warm the house enough that there won't be a need for the furnace tonight. But considering we were in the mid-80s on Sunday and Monday this is a big temp drop.

I'd like to pre-build the major components for another of the steel planters, but I'd like the temps to rise a few more degrees before I go outside to do that. It's 59(F) now, warmer in the sun, but I'll let the sun warm things up a bit before I go out to sit on the ground and bolt the steel panels together.

There is fencing tonight. Sometimes I go on Wednesday, sometime I skip Wednesday. So we will see. I'll probably go.

So very likely a lazy day, maybe building a planter in the sun, maybe brushing Mitty, who is shedding clumps of hair. Maybe just sitting in the La Z Boy and drinking tea with honey & lemon to soothe my constant sore throat (2+ weeks) and lost voice.

One of the guys in my shooting group wants some of my 45acp. Possibly 2000 rounds. But he is out of town. Assuming he takes it, I will have cleared out over 14,000 excess rounds of ammo. Don't worry fellas, I'm just making a dent.
 
Go figure. 3 days ago it was HOT shorts weather. Woke up this morning to a cold house and a thick layer of frost covering everything outside. Below freezing. Nonetheless I went out hunting this morning. Worked on the sxs a bit when I got back. Now just resting up before cooking supper. Apparently we're going out to a birthday party later for someone. I dunno. I just do as I'm told.

My throat hurts.

For 3 weeks. Improves one day, worse the next. Could be from too much talking at fencing, which is usually high volume to be heard above the noise of the fencing room, or when I conduct a class and I need everyone to hear me. The inter-webs say mouth breathing at night, which I do, and my C-PAP's humidifier broke so I am mouth breathing dry air.

Going into the doctor tomorrow. My first ever use of "medicare" so wish me luck. As of Oct 1 I am on Medicare and off of private insurance. This could be fun?

I did end up brushing Mitty today. The dog is 1/2 the size he was before I brushed him, but we won't have masses of fur floating around the house anymore. Also built the major components of another steel raised bed planter. I should have done 2 or 3 but I got lazy. And honestly it was just a little too cool to be outside working with the sore throat.
 
In my 'teens, I used nasal spray quite frequently. That is, ... until it appeared to lead to a sinus infection every time I used it. I haven't used nasal spray for thirty+ years..... until this spring. This spring/summer has been so bad I really had no choice but to give it another try. Thankfully..... it's been successful, and no sinus infections. I've had to "shoot up" almost every night over the last four/six weeks at bedtime so I can breathe until morning.

......... and YOU GUYS just prove my point.

Man................. it's been SOOOooo BAD, this year.

Just another reason to pray for snow.

(MY throat hurts/burns, too).

I’m heading down the Medicare path myself, just applying for it and SS, I have 3 months of banked private insurance to carry me through.

I stocked up on as many drugs as I could, notified my doctors, etc. Just in case.
 
Other than finding out that I actually have an infection and needed to get meds, today's visit to the immediate care, while using my newly printed Medicare card, was flawless. Reception knew exactly how to handle the changeover.

They even sent my Medicare info to Walgreens so when I went to pick up the meds there was no charge.

So now I'm officially old. And officially sick. (and still crabby, sore and sarcastic too, but none of that is news)

But I get "free" stuff that you young'uns pay for instead of me paying for them.
 
Somehow I was voluntold to run a BBQ kitchen again at a rennaissance fair at our local fairgrounds this weekend. There's going to be knights and horse jousting etc. I'll be feeding all the volunteers lunch and supper Saturday and Sunday. I was over setting up my kitchen area this evening.
 
The southside of my subdivision lot has historically been the recipient of all the excess building materials, bricks, stone and lumber, for years as I worked on so many "improvements" to the house we built some 50 years ago. The entire area is a colossal "Mess."
So, this month I have committed to clearing it up and organizing the Chaos.

We have 16- and 24-foot ladders leaning against the house, and enough random lumber pieces to build a small cabin. Then there are windows I bought 10,-20 years ago leaning against the house. All that has a place, eventually, but for now it just looks ugly and unkempt.

I used brick pavers to create a clean walkway through about half of it. The rest gets gravel. So this last week I have been working on just getting things organized and finished. Tomorrow, I will finish getting brackets on the fence for all the ladders. Then tackle the random lumber. There are four windows destined for the sunroom addition. They go across the yard to be stored near that project. This will clear the deck already there so I can install an access door to the master bedroom/bathroom. We purchased this door some 20 years ago and I never installed it. The wall is already framed out for it so all I have to do is cut the wallboard out and install a small set of steps. This will allow me to access the bathroom without going thru the house in my dirty, muddy, boots.

I do hope to have all this done by the end of October. Certainly, by Thanksgiving or Crumpy will be hard to live with.
 
A few more northern lights tonight, not as good as last week. We're still harvesting, should be very close to finishing tomorrow night, hopefully we do as it sounds like rain for Sunday. This time of year the weather can go downhill quickly and be over before you know it. Already lost 3 weeks due to rain and poor harvest weather.

Relaxing, puttering about, probably cleaning this morning then heading out off to The Ohio State for fencing.

Purdue Fencing competes this weekend.

I think 5 or 6 other schools will be competing in a 2 day match, first Individuals and then a Dual Meet Team event. I'm coaching Purdue for the Dual Meet, we will have full squads. They opted not to take the whole team to the individual events due to high costs, a second night of hotel rooms, etc. So I think one or 2 brave kids are out there today for the individuals but the Purdue team competes tomorrow in the Duals. I should be back home late on Sunday evening, maybe 9-10pm?

Sadly I won't have my 2 best female saber fencers. And I don't think I'll have my best male saber fencer.
 
Went and put new tires on the wife's vehicle. Got our son to and from football practice. Headed to pick up a new dryer and install it once I get back. Already pulled out the old one and got it outside. Then remove and replace tub faucet assembly with a new one. I may be able to squeeze in a nap some time hopefully. Watch a few college football games and then off to church services this evening.

My day off from work is Wednesday's which what I do is chiropractor go to the bank gym at my community center massage pretty much everything I need to do. I do get a Reiki session if needed.
 
Cleaning up my 2002 Jeep Cherokee. It has in storage for three years now. What a mess.
Two windows don't work, needs full exhausts system, (entire system rotted out, and a head-to-toe deep leaning.

I could not get the oil cap off without it self destructing. Seems to run and drive fine. A full day getting it ready for the road so my son has a car to replace his BMW 650I that was totaled by a deer.

Lots f fun today.

Sunday, Crumpy and I are headed to Starved Rock Lodge for three days of Hiking in the woods of Northen Illinois.
 
FWIW, I'm at OHIO STATE.

Drove 3 hours, met up with a property manager for one of my properties, had a great talk, he and I are friends, so almost no business, was discussed.

Back on the road for another 90+ minutes and then got to my hotel. I'm staying right outside of campus. No clue where the students are, don't really care. I accidentally stayed in the same hotel with them ONCE and that was enough. I'm not their chaperone. I'm not their caretaker. I'm the coach. But with none of the obligations of NCAA rules. So best of all worlds.

I had several compete today in the individual events. They are current and former high school fencers who are now at various schools.

Some did well, some surprisingly well, nobody finished last, so that was good.

No peg leg, matey however I did have a fracture to my ankle from slamming the brake, and had a bunch of stitches way up into my skull because of the open skull fracture.
Still got the teflon strip inside my head on that side, which to this day is fairly numb.
You can call me a numb skull at any time.
I shan't be offended lol
 
Wifey has been living with a crushed occipital nerve (after a shoulder surgery) and the headaches that come from it for a decade. She has just begun having a nerve-block in that area for the last two months. It is helping. She has gone from eight gabapentin a day, down to three.

I call her "numbskull" quite frequently.

For me, it was that clip that I posted in the "What Are You Listening To" thread of Linda Eder singing "Man Of La Mancha". That song was an ear-worm for me for about a full six months. (It was oppressive... I thought it might lead to mental illness). That, and Coyotes have a stereotype for being mischievous and sneaky.... along with fleas and a little mange. That describes me pretty well. So that's why I call myself "Don Coyote". (Don Quixote... but with fleas). My name used to be Don Coyote®..... but symbols like that are not allowed here, so the ® was taken away from me.

Bummer.

Well... because my Dad was career Navy.
I wanted my username to reflect something that had to do with that.
My real name is Loralei.
I was named after the wife of some friends of my parents.
She spelled it Lorelei.
She was a Navy Ombudsman.
Dad always said when I was born I stole his heart from the sea.
I feel like I'm preaching to the choir now, because everyone on here has known this for years.
