I'm a big fan of this book after reading it about 2 years ago. I didn't realize it until I finished the book, but I've already 'gone Galt' in my life and think that the book would make a great movie, but I also worry that the movie could really destroy the message if its not done correctly.

I know that Angelina Jolie had the rights to make this movie, but the project never happened. Then Charlene Theron had the rights to make the move, but that also did not happen. Both actresses were planning to play the part of Dagney Taggart. This new production, which according to the link above, is already in POST-Production, has apparently been filmed with lesser known & unknown actors.

With any luck it will portray the movie in the true spirit of the message of the book.

I'll be looking forward to it. I may have to go to the movie theater for the first time in 25+ years !

I'm almost done reading the book for the second time. First time was at the end of high school.

I get to the movie theater about 1 time a year, heck I might go see this one TWICE if its any good!

For avid readers who enjoy a history lesson, read Rand's WE THE LIVING, it is an account of life in Russia after the revolution but before the formation of the USSR. This book is great for history lovers, but may not be the best choice for people looking for the message portrayed in Rand's other books because it is written in a docu-drama style. As a history lover I really enjoyed it, but I know some who have not. ANTHEM is an interesting short story. When I picked it up I hated the first 10+ pages but by the time I was finished with it I was hungry for more and was upset it ended so quickly. What shocked me is that my daughter had this book assigned to her for her Freshman Honor's English class. The regular Freshman English did not read this book, but the honors students all got it. This is not the type of message that I would expect a high school student to get to see. . . then again she does attend a private high school. THE FOUNTAINHEAD is a good book, somewhat heavy handed with the message, the movie is not as good as the book and the message is not as clear, but same basic message of individual responsibility, individual liberty, individual worth. Holy chit! I got goose bumps from reading this post! I mean it. Read that book when i was about 19 years old. It changed my thinking radically.

  • So you think that money is the root of all evil? Have you ever asked what is the root of money? Money is a tool of exchange, which can't exist unless there are goods produced and men able to produce them. Money is the material shape of the principle that men who wish to deal with one another must deal by trade and give value for value. Money is not the tool of the moochers, who claim your product by tears or of the looters, who take it from you by force. Money is made possible only by the men who produce. Is this what you consider evil?

  • Money demands that you sell, not your weakness to men's stupidity, but your talent to their reason.

Sadly I had to learn all those lessons during life, but the book did CONFIRM what I learned in life.

I really hope this movie lives up to the message. Granted no 90 minute movie can ever provide the depth of conviction that a 2" think book can convey, and I suspect that whole sections of the book will be edited out of the movie for the sake of time so we may not get the feel for the characters in the same way, but if the movie gets the bulk of the message across in a powerful way then it will be worth it!

Have you picked up THE FOUNTAINHEAD? That is another of her books and was made into a movie. The movie is not bad, but the message seems to have been mangled a bit in the film.

I have read that book. That was about Henery Reardon? and the hell he went through with new bilding desighn... Did not know there was a movei made --- will look for it. Thanks!@

No Henry Reardon was the steel producer in Atlas Shrugged. The Fountainhead featured Howard Roark as the architect.

The movie is available on Amazon.com, its an old black and white but it well made and worth watching.

Yea.. now I remember! :yum::yum:
Both had H.R. for initials. I wonder what the significance of that was. Maybe just coincidence.
Thanks for the info.. :clap:
