Press the reset button

JEV

Mr. Congeniality
After reading this morning about all the conniving, cheating, lying, cowardly acts (recess appointments) and other now-accepted government behavior, I thought about the tiny button on the back of my Blackberry that when pressed, returns the device to its original default settings. All the erroneous bullshit is gone, and a clean slate is started according to the original rules.

Don't you wish we had a reset button for Washington? All the politicians would disappear, all the entitlements and deficits would go with them, and the country would have another chance at creating the greatest nation on the planet according to the guidelines laid out by the founding fathers.

Then I woke up to the reality that if it's going to be great again, it's up to those of us who truly love this country and what she stands for to get out and do something about it. We must defeat the enemies of freedom if we hope to continue as a strong nation.

I would settle for one that just kicked all the lobbyists out of town. Then maybe our elected officials could get something constructive done!

Our current batch of elected officials got to where they are because of lobbyist money, and this is where their allegiance belongs, not to us. I think they would be like a fish out of water w/o their lobbyists, many of whom write the very legislation thta undermines our nation, and feathers their own nests. In short, they are puppets, not representatives.

Good thread JEV. A reset button would sure be nice, but it's a dream.
So, what do we do it we get out there? Going to a Tea Party event does not seem as if that will make a change. Writing letters will get a response but not change. Voting can make change, if enough feel the same way.
What can we do to help get the vote out in November? As a forum, as a community. We all live in different areas but maybe there is something we can do to make a difference.
Any ideas?

IMO, we need to do all of the above...become active within an organization representing YOUR/OUR agenda, write letters to your representatives letting them know what you think (I've heard that letters get responses that e-mails do not), and join up with your local political party to educate your friends & neighbors and participate in "get out the vote" campaigns. And, most obviously, cast your vote. If you know a housebound person who cannot get out to vote, help them get an absentee ballot and then be sure to followup with them to insure it gets mailed...or pick them up and take them to the polling place yourself.

I think the most important thing we must do is to keep the faith. It has taken 40 years for the liberals to gain control of the Congress and to bully their agenda to become law without ANY bipartisan support. We need to have both parties participating in promoting legislation in the best interest of ALL Americans, not just one party passing legislation that demonizes success and rewards inaction and non-participation in the support of the country. By creating a larger dependent class, the democrats insure a guaranteed block of votes promoting entitlements and further inaction. We need everyone to participate in the support of the nation, not just hose of us with a work ethic. We need to take care of those who genuinely cannot take care of themself, but the lazy should be left to their own devices to support themself. If you don't work, you should not be fed by those of us who do work. JMHO.

Just an afterthought here. I remember last year when I started getting pissed about what was going on in Washington, and how that was going to affect ME and my family. I would talk about what I'd learned with my friends and neighbors, and about half of them would just roll their eyes, essentially thinking I was a bit of a wacko...the others would listen and often agree (they were/are educating themselves also). Today, most of those skeptics (sans one liberal) are not only listening, but they are sharing e-mails of what they are finding out from reading, listening to Fox News and reading on the Internet. More people are coming awake to what is happening to them from the current crowd in Washington and even in their own state. There is still hope that we can recover from this horrendous abuse of America from our enemies within.

JEV... Dude... are you OK? I can honestly say that more often than not I groan when I start to read you posts in this section. I feel you are quick to slam the liberals and draw party lines. If I did not know better I would think you had smoked a bowl and mellowed a touch. I would rep all of these posts 100 times if I could. Yesterday I was intently watching the candidate commercials on TV as the races for the House and Senate are hotly contested because one Rep. is running for the Senate spot that is being vacated by Sam Brownback as he keeps his promise and belief in term limits. If I were able to vote in Tuesday's election I am not sure who I would vote for. Sadly, because of my divorce and moving I am no longer a registered voter because I have not changed my address on my DL... I plan to move again soon and refuse to piss away what will be close to $40 to change it...

I am actively supporting Paladino for governor in NY. I have personally vowed to vote out any incumbent in any race. I have talked to several of the older neighbors about making sure to get out to vote both in our primary and general election. Wish I could convince the Amish to get out and vote as they are a sizable population in our community. I have been stressing taxes and the mandates from both the feds and Albany when I talk with folks.

There will still be plenty if time to slam the liberals, but from this point forward I feel that being focused on defeating the enemy by educating people is a better use of my energy. FWIW, the last thing I smoked was a rack of ribs and a couple of brined chickens...they was delicious!:yum:
