Getting rid of a Wasp Nest

Assuming you can reach it, and I can reach quite a few of the ones around here, a small bucket, Tupperware, etc. Some gasoline in the bottom. A spackle knife to scrape it away.

Simple and easy.

For whatever it is worth, these can be beneficial in the garden and yard, so I don't make it a habit of destroying every nest. But when they are near a frequently used door, by the pool, etc they have to go. I usually get them when they are very small.

Simple???? Maybe for some. Lately when I am standing and look up and loose my balance. I can see me lifting up the bucket getting close and some wasps be buzzing around the hive. Knock the nest into the bucket, loose balance, drop bucket spill gasoline and get stung a few times. Maybe I can get the wife to do it. LOL

I envisioned the same scenario. And with gasoline, that is more than a bit dangerous.

I just use "AMDRO" a foaming Carpenter Bee spray that sticks to the nest and the insects. The foam stay active for several minutes getting on most of the inhabitants and one can stand well away from the nest when applying the foam. One needs to use very little so the 1 lb 2 oz can last all summer.

Active ingredient is "Fipronil"
W
orks on Termites also.

I got it at LOWES.

I can see Bob's method for a huge nest out in the open hanging from a tree, but that Hot Shot stuff is the best for around the house. You can spray the nest from a safe distance and then just head inside while it works its magic.

We have radios here too and I use hotshot. Works great.
Now if I could find something that worked on and a quickly and effectively. I have gone through two containers of Andro. Wasting money.

Old mechanics trick try using brakeclean kills wasps faster than anything, doesn’t kill flies and stuff. One drop on wasps and they die. Can get them in mid flight. Spray it in the nest and they fall out dead.

For all season protection/capture of wasps and carpenter bees, I use these. Not an instant fix but it does get a lot of them over the course of the summer.

Hang vertically for wasps, horizontally for carpenter bees.
