What are you doing today, II

Capacitor quit on our house next door. Our older, mentally disabled BIL didn't mention the house was getting warm. We went over at around 5PM yesterday and the house was 88 degrees inside?!?!?. Our HVAC guy was here at 8AM this morning and got us up and running.

Moved some stone this afternoon. Too damn hot to do much else.

Got a 2AM wake-up call for tonight to take the Mrs to the airport for a vacation.
A vacation for her or are you going also?

IF I told you what I've been doing today, I'd have to write a damn book.
Suffice it to say, I'm OK but have been stressed over some crap which will sooner or later get sorted out.
I've always been that one member who spills her guts in one fell swoop.
Not now.
Happy Friday, love you guys.

Waited for the internet repair guy to show up.

Weeded. Weeded. Weeded. In some areas I needed a shovel to dig out the roots. But a long established hosta bed looks much better. As do a couple flower beds.

Played with Kobe in the swimming pool.

Ate dinner at the pool.

No tramadol for pain today, but I did have some Advil.

Already back inside from trimming back some wild rose bushes to 'tame' them into submission so they don't kill anyone with their tangles of thorns. Also trimmed up some low maple branches that are reaching down and touching the top of my head when I walk out to the pool. And some random bush by the kitchen patio.

The debris from the trimmed back rose bush is a raked pile in the yard, away from humans and dogs, That one big bush yielded a 2.5' tall by 6' diameter mess of thorns, which is just waiting to be scooped up with the FEL bucket.

The branches and debris from the other trimmings are in the burn 'ring' adjacent to the swimming pool patio.

Pool deck has been cleared with the blower. Pool skimmers emptied. Pool is 93 degrees, and the heater is turned off!!! Dogs have been fed. Kobe ate a Pop-Tart. The lovely Mrs_Bob got her morning caramel mocha. Good start to the day.

I'm out at camp for the weekend with my wife, two daughters and a friend. I'm trying to stay out of trouble by completing a project we'd been wanting to do (aka..she's been nagging me to do) for years. We have an outdoor kitchen with a 60" old bathroom vanity as bottom of the kitchen cabinets with a granite countertop. It never had a backing so the cabinets were unusable. I emptied and cleaned the cabinet and installed some 1/4 plywood I had sitting in the shed as backing. That put a smile on her face for all of 3 minutes then she started talking about upper cabinets. 🙄

Going to pick them up tomorrow afternoon when we get home from camp.

Damn thunder storms have ruined my afternoon. :(
I did get 23 ton of stone graded today so I'll take that as a win.
Found some high quality hot dogs in a freezer. Might cook a few of those next.

Went to my building to install bluetooth adapter on the sl. LEDs were flickering and office lights dim. I had a dead 480 leg coming in.
Now back when I was working, I would have walked out to the pole and looked at the fuses first thing, but I'm in retirement mode. Opened up the panels, traced it back. So i thought the transformer took a crap. Called AEP, well sent them an outage note. They said between 10a and 3p they'd get there. 245 they show up. I tell the guy what I thought, he laughed, he pointed to the dead squirrel on the ground by the pole, I immediate looked up and of course the fuse was open. He snapped in a new fuse with his insulated pole. All good.

But I did get the Becker Bluetooth module plugged into the back of my original Becker Mexico Cassette and it works great. Amazing that they have a plug in module made for a 45 year old radio.
And I changed out the bad sunvisors.
20250625_114108.jpg

And I discovered that this radio has a "wunderbar". Press the bar between the AM button and the FM button and the radio mechanically adjusts to the next station. The channel needle moves as it's searching. Seems so antiquated but was probably really something in the day.

We have bringing down the firetrucks from the other station to work on them at the main station and we needed a couple outlets for them to keep the equipment charged got that done today next meeting im going to suggest changing the panel that is jury-rigged and too small. More work for the me but I work cheep:D

I had a 2 year old hug me and call me Dad

He is the child of divorced parents. The younger brother of one of Kobe's friends from school. The 2 boys, and their mom, spent the day at our house, swimming in the pool, playing with each other and Kobe's toys. I was clearly involved in some of that, but I never took a dip in the pool today as I was in some serious pain this morning from, apparently, overworking my arms yesterday, combined with my rheumatoid arthritis. I guess? I dunno. But the day ended up being a nice day.

And the hug from the little boy was a huge bonus.

I was back from camp yesterday afternoon. Started mowing the lawn that's turned into a field. The Jacobsen started running a bit warm as it was working hard and the temp was climbing so I parked it after doing about half of it. Intermittent thunder storms all day yesterday and apparently today again.

Alarm set at 5:30am so I could relax with coffee before the day starts. But I got up at 5:25.

Coffee, a few cups already. Started making Kobe's breakfast, and the lovely Mrs_Bob's Cappuccino, and then realized it was too early for them. So they are partially made and waiting for me to go back down to finish them when I feed the dogs.

Taking Kobe to school, then coming home to deal with some bills and mail that has accumulated. Not sure what else I'll do.

It is supposed to be hot, I know it is humid already!!! I've had the heater turned DOWN on the swimming pool but the temperature of the water remains OVER 90 degrees each day without the heater running.

Going to pick them up tomorrow afternoon when we get home from camp.

I went to see the cabinets yesterday and found them all too deep. So I passed on them. This morning I headed to the city for diesel fuel for the mower, gas for the plow truck, and exchange a 30lb propane tank for the camper. I decided to check out a used furniture store that also sells home renovation materials and found a couple of upper cabinets that will work for camp. So I picked them up.

I came home, fueled up both plow truck and mower and finished mowing the lawn. Then graded the driveway. It's hot and humid.

For a man with a broken body, you sure keep busy.
I normally do not wear a hat, but if I did I would take it off for ya. (y)

I try to stay busy as when I stop, my back locks up. Plus....ever hear the saying "make hay while the sun shines"? I try to hit the ground running in the morning and get as much done as possible before it heats up outside and random thunderstorms rolled through.

I've had a couple projects going on. Build new pole building and take on 46 ton of stone.
To make way for the tri-axle dump truck, I used a pole saw and made a path. Threw the tops in the fire pit.
Just lit up the fire pit and went looking for my poker stick. I found it... in the middle of the fire. :( Who does that. Hate to say it may have been me. I have more sticks so it's all good.

My "Big Beautiful stick" is gone. :(

Glad to hear your HVAC tech got it fixed quickly. When a capacitor goes out, the system can't start up properly, so the temperature inside can rise fast, especially during hot weather. Since there’s no real alert when it happens, it’s easy for someone to miss it, especially if they’re not familiar with how the system should sound or feel. You might want to consider a smart thermostat or remote temperature sensor. It can help you keep an eye on things from a distance and catch any issues before the house gets too uncomfortable or potentially unsafe.

I knew it was the capacitor. My HVAC guy with his van full of them could arrive by 7AM. Amazon takes another 12 hours. Whether I hire it out or do it myself, it was going to be a next day fix.

I despise "smart" thermometers and most other electronics.

I like them better than the white ones,,,; which really did not go with the existing lower wood grained base cabinet.

Crumpy got called into work early so I will get a bit more done today.
So far, shredded and ground up a large pile of tree limbs and branches I took out of the front Black woods Pines (AKA Vanderford's) and our three big European Honey suckle trees. The shredding's make a nice, cushioned, play area for 8-year-old Madison. A 16 foot diameter circle under shade trees.

Yesterday I was trimming the American Holly in the front yard and struck a hornet's nest. None bit or stung me however, I killed them all. Too close the house and right over a brick walkway. Shredded all of that as well.

Later I have two wheelbarrow loads of topsoil & sand mix to raise the Burning Bush hedge gardens along the north fence. All my Handi stone (TM) work is done, and I have just enough to lay a small (24 ' X 8.0") retaining wall along the front of them. I still have enough smaller trapezoidal wall stones to finish the mound under the redbud tree on the south side. It will likely be my last stone wall work here at the house. No schedule on that.

Later this afternoon, I will spray the back yard foliage for bugs, making our evenings a bit more pleasant.

I wnt to the Y for aquarobics came home to mellow out in the heat.
got a bout 1 hour on that and had a rescue call for sick hiker 4 miles in on a trail down in the mountain
we got to the trail head and ambulance right behind us Medic and EMT and 2 others went right down on the trail we got our stokes and one wheel cart ready and went down the trail (we are older and slower) it took an hour or so the medic had him drinking and giving him electrolyte's by the time the 8 of us got there he was moving ok we were prepping him to to ride out and he said he like to try walking out definitely smother than riding out on our cart it took us about 2 1/2 ours to get back up the hill and out but he made it and so did we I'll sleep great tonight I hope.

This is the cart we use 2 people and you have to rotate them because its tiring and up hill we put a tugger (person) with a rope on the front to help pull up the hills while the 2 people balance it.

Happy Canuk day y'all.

My plans for the day include doing as little as possible this morning then going to check out a car show this afternoon at the fairgrounds property that backs onto ours. We'll see about a fireworks show tonight. We had one at camp on the weekend. I didn't go down to watch as it's down by the waterfront next to a swampy area right at dusk during prime mosquito hour.

Bi-monthly shopping trip, then putting away the results of said trip. The peace & harmony of living away from civilization comes with the sacrifice of certain conveniences.
