Yosemite NP and the area

Wife is talking about a trip to Yosemite and the general area.
We're older so won't be doing any extreme hiking.
Any tips?
How long should we plan on visiting?
What are other things worthwhile to see or do within 100-200 miles?

Bump.
The wife booked the trip.
One week stay (but lose a day there and back due to travel).
Still looking for ideas & advise.

Wife and I were just looking at a map and came up with a new, extended plan.

We'll stay at a hotel about 20 miles outside of Fresno for 3 nights. From that location, we'll see:
Yosemite
Sequoia National park
Death Valley

We then travel north west 500 miles to Klamath CA for 2 nights. From there, we'll see:
Redwood national forest

Then head east to Lassen Volcanic National Park for the day.

Then drive to Reno/Carson City/Lake Tahoe (not sure exactly where we're going to stay yet). Hang out 3 days in that area and then fly home.

Sounds like a great trip.
Wife and I visited Yosemite in 95. I attended a conference in San Francisco and we stayed a couple days over to go to Yosemite. Beautiful. but it was January and the some of the roads were closed, so we didn't see it all. We were traveling seat of the pants, no reservation. No cell phones, no internet. Had a hard time finding a place to stay. Finally found a vacancy at a dive motel.. Worst place we ever stayed. Around midnight a wild ass wedding party came in, they were outrageously loud. Sounded like gun shots. We complained to no avail. It was out of control. We got some sleep and didn't bring home bed bugs so it did turn out okay.

I like your itinerary much better. Enjoy. .

Yosemite is a must see. Wife and I were there late 90s'
If you climb the falls, it is worth the pain. However, give yourself time and aspirin to recover before dinner. Going up is fantastic. Coming down is brutal.

Kind of like Chichen Itza. Climbed that thing once. Scary going up, shit your pants scary coming back down.

My wife and I will NOT be doing any extensive excursions. A mile, round-trip on mellow paths is about our limit before we move on.
We're taking our 20-something year old son who LOVES these trips. We're going to enjoy all the time we can with him before he moves on from wanting to be with his parents. He ventures farther. We'll wait at the park bench.

Not exactly. At Yosemite, you are climbing almost straight up the cliffside of the mountain. Up is easy. Coming seem so but when you hit bottom your thighs and knee joints are screaming.
When we went to dinner it was all we could do to walk. The waiter noticed and said "a lot of folks end up here just like that."

That sounds just like Chichen Itza. You have to ass-drag your way down the pyramid. Walking down isn't an option. ;
