thembmarket.com had a 1980 SL450 listed. 85,000 miles or so. Red.
For the hell of it, I bid.
I won at $7,250.
I haven't heard from the seller, I'm guessing he's thinking about dropping out, even though I believe legally he can't.
It's in Florida, but I do have a good broker who has moved a few cars for me.
It's a disease.

He went through with it. Of course he says i got it at an insane price. He even offered to cover half the shipping cost.
Chatting with the guy, he's doing alright. Owns a black G63 and a white G63. His and hers.

Interesting thing about Benz from that era. Even though they were for high end customers, one could easily work on them. The factory expected you to do so and the cars even came with tools.
Imagine that today.

Took it out for a 35 mile through wine country after washing and waxing, though it didn't need it.
Rides wonderfully, but needs a few things.
Tried the ac, cool, not cold. So I added about 14oz of 134 to get the pressures right. Somebody had converted it in the last.
The radio antenna (Herschmann 481) wouldn't go all the way up nor all the way down. Took it apart, cleaned it all the old grease and regreased. Works OK now
It's got the original Becker Mexico Cassette radio. No Bluetooth back then. But i ordered the Becker streaming adapter that plugs into the Aux port in back
The clock doesn't work. Seems to be a resistor and a capacitor that fails. I'll do that during winter hibernation.
Cruise control doesn't work. These have the infamous cruise control amplifier that has 5 caps on it that fall. I'll probably just buy a rebuilt one.

Your newest is beautiful but I always like the 260SL

My dad hired a contractor way back when, that guy had a 260SL and I fell in love with that car.

Never owned a MB, was more of an Audi guy, owned those, still have a little Audi A3 convertible, but the 260SL would be a prize if ever I were to look for another classic.
