 :dizzy: oh man...

Yuh, these are the people running the country. I may be late to this party, but, Congressman Hank Johnson expresses his fear that Guam will someday “tip over and capsize” because there are too many people on the island at about 1:25 into the video.

[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zNZczIgVXjg"]YouTube- 3-25-2010_Hank_Johnson_Guam_Tip_Over.wmv[/ame]

He spent the first minute painfully describing the dimensions of the island…TWICE…even though the admiral tried to help him out by calling the island “small” after the congressman’s first attempt to describe the dimensions. So I’m guessing that the good congressman thinks islands are just floating around in the ocean like big inflatable pool toys. Hopefully, the Navy is aware that’s not the case.

This is the kind of interrogatory that led to national health care legislation. Think that Congressman Johnson read the bill before he signed it?

That blithering idiot represents a district about twenty miles south of me. Lithonia is also famous for her other son, Sen Max Cleland. It used to be a wonderful, small Georgia town but now it's part of the hood. Residents shouldn't be allowed to vote.

OMG! Idiocy in action!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Caution. DO NOT view with your mouth full!!!

Sorry, PG. I didn't see you had posted this. I heard it on Boortz as I was out and about. So glad I didn't have anything in my mouth! I would have spewed all over my dashboard!

Ah yes, the district of Cynthia McKinney, Denise Majette, Cynthia McKinney and now this blundering buffoon.

CB and I are native Georgians. I grew up in Jonesboro. Had an Aunt and Uncle in Lithonia. Are you up in Gwinnett Co?

'tis ok :flowers:
I had to listen to it a couple of times before posting it, still saying wth..:whistling:

What I don't understand, and I am totally serious, but how is it that the admiral who was being questioned didn't break out laughing at this idiot and then, s_l_o_w and LOUD, explain to him that islands are not bobbing around out in the ocean like ice cubes in a scotch and soda.

Did you see the people behind the Admiral? They were about to bust.

I'm in Norcross. The district we're discussing was gerrymandered to eliminate Bob Barr's seat in congress.

I heard on the radio this morning that the man has a debilitating and terminal disease, and should be gently removed from office. The disease has caused his speech impediment, and he has sever neurological problems that cause him to lose his thoughts in mid speak.. The bimbo of the House (Nancy) has permitted this debacle to happen as a diversion from something else. It's sickening to see a very sick man, regardless of party, to be allowed to embarrass himself like that. Has anyone thought that there might be a medical problem here before jumping in with the lynch mob? I didn't think so.

He has Hepatitis C. Hepatitis C can cause a condition called Hepatic Encephalopathy.

The mildest form of hepatic encephalopathy is difficult to detect clinically, but may be demonstrated on neuropsychological testing. It is experienced as forgetfulness, mild confusion and irritability. More severe encephalopathy is characterised by an inverted sleep-wake pattern (sleeping by day, being awake at night), marked irritability, (flapping) tremor, difficulties with coordination and trouble writing.[1]

More severe forms of hepatic encephalopathy lead to a worsening level of consciousness, from lethargy to somnolence and eventually coma. In the intermediate stages, a characteristic jerking movement of the limbs is observed (asterixis); this disappears as the somnolence worsens. There is disorientation and amnesia, and uninhibited behaviour may occur. Coma and seizures represent the most advanced stage; cerebral oedema (swelling of the brain tissue) leads to death.[1]

Encephalopathy often occurs together with other symptoms and signs of liver failure. These may include jaundice (yellow discolouration of the skin and the whites of the eyes), ascites (fluid accumulation in the abdominal cavity), and peripheral oedema (swelling of the legs due to fluid build-up in the skin). The tendon reflexes may be exaggerated, and in severe encephalopathy the plantar reflex may be abnormal (extensor plantars or Babinksi's sign). A particular smell (foetor hepaticus) may be detected.[2]

I empathize for Mr. Johnson. His disease is not cureable. But it has nothing to do with what he said. He was completely coherent and absent of tremors. Furthermore, according to an article at Huffington Post:

"I wasn't suggesting that the island of Guam would literally tip over," Johnson says via a spokesman. "I was using a metaphor to say that with the addition of 8,000 Marines and their dependents -- an additional 80,000 people during peak construction to the port on the tiny island with a population of 180,000 -- could be a tipping point which would adversely affect the island's fragile ecosystem and overburden its already overstressed infrastructure.
"Having traveled to Guam last year, I saw firsthand how this beautiful -- but vulnerable island -- is already overburdened, and I was simply voicing my concerns that the addition of that many people could tip the delicate balance and do harm to Guam."]

He is perfectly coherent.

I heard on the radio this morning ........ The bimbo of the House (Nancy) has permitted this debacle to happen as a diversion from something else.

Did you have any facts to back this up when you posted this other than repeating what you heard on talk radio? If you hear anything on talk radio, or any editorialized type programming, it's wise to fact check it before believing it and repeating it.

It's sickening to see a very sick man, regardless of party, to be allowed to embarrass himself like that. Has anyone thought that there might be a medical problem here before jumping in with the lynch mob? I didn't think so.

A rare moment of insight and altruism? Or an ulterior motive in hope of a "gotcha" moment?

As a matter of fact, I probably SHOULD have checked it out before repeating it. I heard it on NPR, where they described his illness, and they very likely could have just been regurgitating from MSNBC or CNN, both of which frequently get things wrong, or who only tell part of the story. I'll be much more careful when relaying what i hear on NPR.

Altruism? I was merely reporting what I heard, and seeking a bit of empathy for the guy. Did you bother to read City Girl's description of the disease and its effects before attacking my integrity? I didn't think so.

I applaud you for being open-minded enough to listen to NPR. I listen to it most days on my 80 mile RT to work and back.

I did not hear what you heard on NPR. Perhaps they said what you said and I missed it. Regardless, I applaud you for coming to the aid of a Democrat.

I'm married to her. Of course I read ALL her posts. I especially paid attention to this part:

And this:

"I wasn't suggesting that the island of Guam would literally tip over," Johnson says via a spokesman. "I was using a metaphor to say that with the addition of 8,000 Marines and their dependents -- an additional 80,000 people during peak construction to the port on the tiny island with a population of 180,000 -- could be a tipping point which would adversely affect the island's fragile ecosystem and overburden its already overstressed infrastructure.

Don't accuse me of being open minded. It is Lent and I was doing penance for my unconfessed sins.

Georgia Congressman

The congressman from Georgia has a couple questions for the admiral. Try to hang in there for his conclusion.

I can't believe the Admiral was able to keep a straight face and not
laugh...

Here is what this guy's WEB site says he does in congress. I am not sure how he finds his way across the street to get there.
In two terms as U.S. Representative for Georgia's Fourth Congressional District, Congressman Hank Johnson has distinguished himself as a substantive, hard-working legislator who delivers results.

A member of the Armed Services and Judiciary Committees, he Chairs the Judiciary Subcommittee on Courts and Competition Policy that is responsible for antitrust legislation and oversees administration of the federal courts.

After only one term in office, he was elected by his colleagues to serve in the House Leadership as Southeast Regional Whip. In that capacity, he has played a key role in garnering support for key priorities such as health care reform, the Recovery Act, and legislation to reduce carbon emissions to slow climate change. One of the earliest congressional supporters of President Barack Obama, Rep. Johnson served as co-Chair of the Obama Campaign in Georgia.
