Tractor Smart is gone

Is tractor smart a competitor of TBN (a forum) or is it a tractor dealership?

If anyone on here has bought from Larry / moweraxle, maybe we can get a testimonial and a link back to FF like TBN has.

Tracter smart was a tractor dealer, then just a Kubota parts internet site. But somewhere along the line Kubota changed their policies on freight effective 3-1, therefore Tractor smart is closing.

I have been close friends with Ronnie for a while now and spoke to him this afternoon. He told me that after he shut down his family Kubota dealership, that Kubota has been trying to shut down the internet sale of Kubota Parts. He had teamed up with Keller Brothers in PA to continue supplying parts to Kubota owners because that was the only way that he could continue. Now, Kubota has added a $5.00 service charge to parts that are dropped shipped to customers as of March 1st. They have also eliminated the flat $5.00 shipping fee and will be charging "actual" shipping costs. There is no way to know what the shipping cost will be since there is no weights posted with the part in the parts books. Kubota just doesn't want internet sales of parts and they have thrown every obstacle in to kill them.
Ronnie, I believe is still accepting orders, so if you need any spares, now is the time to order them before the new rules take effect. Once Tractorsmart is gone, we will all be dependant on the local dealer for our parts need. I know in my case, the local dealer doesn't stock much of anything by Kubota. I for one will miss the great service that he provided.

Sounds like a loss of a great resource for Kubota owners.:(

Is this a case of some bad apples spoiling it for the really good ones, or is Kubota somehow trying to economize their warehousing?

Sounds to me like Kubota's protecting its dealers' areas.
Either that, they're just stuck in the pre-internet era.

That's bull, I'm selling my Kubota......... Make me an offer, anybody, no offers refused.

Mike with all the money you are going to make on the sale of the Kubota, why not buy a New Holland?

The closest that you own a Kubota is a toy model. You are too cheap to buy a Kubota and had to settle for third best..... New Holand..... you are so cheap that you wouldn't even buy the second best.... a Kioti!!!! :yum:

I would not say this is the case at all. What they did was update their drop ship policy to something more along the lines of what every other company has. We have simular policies from New Holland and a few other companies. I am not sure what kind of arrangment they had, but except for a few programming changes its not going to effect our parts business at all.

Maybe from his perspective, i would not say we've seen anything that would support this. Frankly, if they wanted to stop it all they have to do is call us and the one other dealer that does this aggressivly and put an end to it.

From what I hear they are giving the dealers an extra 10% discount on stock parts orders to encourage them to stock more parts. They must have enough profit in the parts to give up 10% or they wouldn't do it. I see this as trying to support the small dealer that hasn't a very good parts inventory and looses sales to the internet. It hasn't been a secret that Kubota doesn't like internet sales, otherwise they wouldn't have stopped the sale of tractors by the regulations that they put in place a couple of years ago. The biggest problem with them doing away with the internet sales is that the local dealers still won't stock parts for every machine out there because it isn't economically feasible. It is time that Kubota starts to realize that internet sales is the way of the future and that any dealership that doesn't make a presence on the internet isn't going to survive in the future. I have often wondered how Kubota feels about Messick Equipment selling tractors in CT from their location in PA. I know that the local dealership to me, doesn't like it....... Junk....

If I read right:

Considering his customer base, it looks like tractorsmart is going to give it a try despite Kubota's changes.

While a well stocked, friendly, knowledgable, and competetive dealer would be an obvious first choice, I think it's great if those who can't find the right combination locally can do so on line.:thumb:

Thats a strong matter of opinion. Would you believe that I actually support the decisions that they made. What they did was stop people from throwing a tractor in the back of a yellow freight truck and dumping it at a customers place. What they are doing is ensuring that the customer is going to get good support. They have no issue with us selling tractors anywhere in the US. Provided that we drop them off on our trucks and have our employee's help out the customer. We also service these machines when we need to, its really no problem at all for us - it would be for some others. We are not your typical dealership. Kubota and New Holland compacts account for only a small part of our business. We also do alot fo really large equipment (150-$300,000) and in some cases are the only dealer in the North East because we have techs that are trained to work on the stuff. This takes us up into CT, NY, MA on a regular basis. Thus supporting those customers has not been a problem. I would not sell a machine to someone in California.

Yup, this is true for about every vender. Its nothing new and frankly this is how it should work. We carry 4 million dollars in parts inventory. There needs to be an incentive to do that. For obvious reasons tts better for business if the dealers are stocking the bulk of the parts rather than the manufacturer.
