Stupid, worthless Amish!

Gone But Not Forgotten
Wife and I left for a fairly long drive about 10 this morning. All was well when we left the place. Got back right at dark this evening and after unloading car checked for messages and no phone. Dead line. No internet. Took my trusty old construction phone and plugged in at the network interface and nothing. Used the cell and managed to get a call to phone co. by standing just right. They would send someone out. Drove to neighbors up and down the valley and all had phones. About 8 this evening tech shows up and nothing. Tell him to check down in the valley where they took off for my power line and all is fine there. He started at my place and walked the line and at the bottom of my hill the idiots were cutting trees in their pasture and ripped down the line. They even took the wire and wrapped it back along the barbed wire fence so they could drag out logs and never said a word. I ended up helping him string out about 300 ft. of wire to splice in a temp wire to get my phone and internet back for the weekend. It is -4F outside and I really want to go choke the fucking idiots. Guess it will be another trip to the elders this week. I thought about going to wherever church is tomorrow but the wife says don't do that. It just pisses me off that they damage stuff and act all innocent about it. Last time we had phone trouble they had knocked the pedestal over down the valley with a hay wagon and same thing. Never said a word. They are quick to want to use a phone or call for a ride but don't have the common courtesy to man up and let someone know so it can be repaired.

Same for me mak2, I've never heard a bad word about them till now either. I guess my time is up as I can say I'm sure I've heard it all. :yum:

Ok. I see why you are upset. WOW! I never thought of them as being inconsiderate. Do unto others and all that? I'd be pretty darned peeved myself! I'd address it with them too.

That's because they live in their own little chunk of the world.
They don't want to be a part of society, except for when it's convenient for them to do so.

No the wire is not on their land! I have 107 acres and they are constantly pushing the envelope. Most are pretty decent folks but this bunch needs to go the way of the ones I bought this farm from and get banished to another community. They have stolen from me and trespassed till I got pictures of them and had a sit down with the elders. They have managed to piss off most of the neighbors around them and even the few good Amish in the hollow. The town and the cops are afraid to prosecute them but I sure as hell will push the issue. The game warden had five separate complaints about them doing illegal stuff this year. Just a matter of time and they will end up in jail or dead. I won't hesitate to drop the old man or his smart mouthed boy if they push me!

Glad you got back on line. Do them Amish even know what a wire is? I doubt it. Good thing they dropped a tree on the phone wire - instead of a power wire. grabbing a power wire and dragging it out of the way would have almost been funny.

Guess Tree took his post back off the forum. I will put it back so my reply makes sense.

Sorry to laugh, Mule, but that's high-larious. Plus, you want t live way out

in the sticks but not without constant internet connection.

You know who doesn't worry about the internet? The Amish!!

If the wire was on their land don't they have the right to cut it?

I do feel your pain, but its still funny."

These same Amish don't mind asking you to find parts for their equipment on the internet when they need it. I try hard to get along with most everyone and have a good relationship with most of the Amish around here. I do some excavating and repair stuff for them and they help me with the physical labor I am not allowed to do. I buy lumber from them when I need some and haul stuff with my trucks. They moved my old TV out and unloaded and carried in the new one. In return I ran those boys 68 miles round trip to buy hockey skates.

Trust me they know what a wire and electricity is. I charge up their cordless tools that they have but hide from the elders. These are the same dumb asses that were messing with the bear in his den last year before we tagged him. They are only educated by their 14 year old sister so the ladder is pretty short!

I was told that most of them own generators on their farms.
No electric?
Right.

They don't own generators but have a hell of a lot of honda motors to belt drive almost anything from the wife's washing machine to a sewage pump. They like the same tools as english just figure out other ways to power them. Now if you go down to Lancaster,Pa. it is all air powered in there shops. They use air nailers and air powered chain hoists and they also use battery powered computers. The phones are usually in the milk house in the milk or feed companies name and they pay the bills. Same thing up here. The company has the milk house and the electric bill is in their name but the Amish who use it pay the bill off their milk check. They also charge up cordless tools in them. Every sect has different rules and they all sneak around them to a degree.

So much for being simple people.
Whenever I visit Shipshewana, Berne or any other places close to me, I am amazed at how they appear to be living apart from the rest of the world, but it does make you wonder how they seem to reap so much when it comes to $$$$$.
I took a tour of an old order Amish home in Indiana.
The tour guide was former Amish.
The stuff she shares on that tour about the way they operate now is mindblowing.:yum:
It's a free tour too haha

Totally. They are people just like anyone else. I won't get into the smoking and drinking that goes on, but they are not as innocent as most folks believe.:hammer:
Saw a group of guys carrying out cases of beer 2 years ago at some corner store in Berne.
My friend Josie told me the term that is used for the Amish going through their rebel years--apparently drinking and smoking is ok as long as they come out the other side clean and free of the habits and decide it's a bad thing.
Then they won't be shunned and are good little boys and girls.

They ain't just smoking tobacco! two of the young ones from this hollow moved to work in Pa. and have kept the electric on in their places. They like having hot showers and lights they don't to fill and change mantles in all the time. The one even has tv now. His wife watches it more than he does.

Doesn't surprise me at all.

Oh, I hear ya about the amish..........

ask themn what the difference is from a wed. wedding or a sat. wedding !!

there's alotta mennonites about 50 miles from me. They love their whiskey (bought at their local party store) the young ones are serious "potthead fokkers" and they love porn !

if people only really knew what goes on

All utilities are on easements. They are obligated to leave them the fuck alone. I'd be pissed too.

--sneaky people those Amish..
Do any of them have camels, Muley?

These people must not live anywhere near Amish colonies. 90% of Amish are what you would expect, the other 10%, well... Drunken brawling, rape, criminal mischief, auto theft, petty theft of anything that isn't locked up, I could go on and on.

This story doesn't surprise me at all.

Dang funny. Those are the way some of them run their buggies. I just returned from a meeting with the head elder of the local community. He took notes and my phone number and assured me something will be done about the whole situation. He also stated he has gotten numerous complaints about this family from other folks and Amish as well. I agreed to give him some time to see what comes about before getting the law involved.
