I pulled this from the FOX.COM site. It seems too irrational to be true and I sure hope schools don't fall for the trick, but that is my experience with these extremist types, they go so far off the deep end that coming 1/2 way back almost sounds rationaly.

PETA Tells Kids to Run From Daddy

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, or PETA, has begun a campaign to scare children into becoming vegetarians.

The group, which formed to stop animal testing of consumer products but made its name by attacking women in fur coats with fake blood, is producing comic books that portray fathers as homicidal maniacs.

The handout, titled "Your Daddy Kills Animals," features a grinning lunatic gutting a fish, and warns kids to keep their puppies and kittens away from Dad because he's "hooked on killing."

"PETA is trying as hard as it can to portray the ordinary angler as a demonic, sadistic, cruel killer. This is what PETA does — it paints caricatures of ordinary people to try to convince the rest of us that we shouldn't want to emulate them," said David Martosko, of the industry lobbying group Center for Consumer Freedom.

But PETA insists that its comic is not outlandish.

"The scientific facts are that fish feel pain in the same way as dogs and cats. It's no more acceptable to hook a fish through the mouth and drag them into your boat and slice them in half than it would be to do the exact same thing to a dog or a cat," said Bruce Friedrich, vegan campaign coordinator for PETA.

Publicity stunts are nothing new for PETA, which has run ads featuring naked women in cages and people dressed in animal suits warning about the dangers of eating meat. But some critics feel the kid-targeted campaign goes too far.

"This is traumatizing kids by the thousands. There's going to be long-term psychological damage from these kids being exposed to the material that PETA puts in front of them on a regular basis," Martosko said.

But, Friedrich countered, "They can certainly find stuff that is more in your face on the Internet, more in your face on Saturday morning cartoons. We don't need to shelter our kids quite that much."

The pamphlet follows a previous one that painted Mom as a "chicken killer." PETA claims its only goal is to reduce meat consumption by changing children's eating habits. Critics insist alienating children from their parents isn't in anyone's best interests — human or animal.

Yeah, what Dargo said!!! Un Freakin Believable!!!!

I think I posted this in the KBN once but there is a major activity in the area here that called a gopher count. Yes it use to bring people from all over. You see at one time there pocket gophers were taking over the area and the area counties come up with a program where they paid you for the feet of the gophes. So as a kid 40 some years ago I use to trap them. The first summer I made over $150.00. Doesn't sound like much but it was at that time. Anyway PETA has stepped in and wants to close this festival down even though not many people bring in their feet anymore.

But you have to picture this, the lady doing the protesting at the town meeting was wearing leather pants and oh her protection was a dog, a doberman that had it's tail sniped and ears clipped. And the ding dongs at the town meeting was letting her run all over them until one in the audience finally stood up and asked her about these things. Well every one came to their senses and she was rail roaded out of town.

I personally think she should have been locked up for cruelty to animals. Wonder what PETA would have said about her.

murph

this is just crazy! PETA should issue an apology and let the kids know they were wrong to do this.

PETA= people eating tasty animals

Before someone else says it....... PETA = People Eating Taste Animals..... They are just a bunch of wacko people that have no life outside of the fantasy world that they live in and will never be satisfied until they corrupt the rest of the world. We need to get PETA to open a branch office in Afghanistan or Iraq where they will be welcomed with open arms. Too bad that the tribe in South America that was cannibalistic and shrunk heads has been reformed. Otherwise we could send them to South America to preach to this tribe.... :StickOutT

Maybe someone needs to start PEVA. (the ultimate Anti-PETA)
People for the Ethical Treatment of Vegetables. And go kick the $hit out of these jackasses.
Hey PETA idiots, those four pointed teeth we have........they are called canines, they are for eating and tearing through meat!!!!!! Eating meat is hardwired into our biology learn to live with it. Stop being soooooooo girlie!!
Animals were put here to serve mankind!!

The really sad thing about this thread is that all you folks seem to think that PETA is just a group of nutcases. And while that is probably totally true, many (actually too many) people do not see PETA and many other groups such as the Humane Society as fringe groups.

We sold our condo up in the fancy country club about a decade ago. I was doing something to gather up clothes for charity and was at a condo down the road talking to a lady who was loading up the truck with donated clothes. She was asking about where we moved to and I was telling her about our property, new home, etc. She started talking about the deer and wild animals. She obviously was opposed to deer hunting. She indicated, through her ignorance of nature, that deer should be protected, etc. The woman was totally clueless, she had a good heart, she watched Bambi one too many times, and she was excatly the type of wealthy person who funds groups who oppose hunting and other cruel things. Of course while she hugged her little yappy dog, wore her leather shoes, drove her Caddy with leather interior, and dined on veal, she had no clue that the 'other cruel things' she was helping to ban were simple things like pet ownership, meat & leather production, etc. She is a hapless fool who groups like PETA and the Humane Society prey upon and she is all too common. You folks may know the truth but I venture to say that a very high percentage of the population, especially those who live in the city & suburbs, have no clue about the dangers of these groups, and often support them.

If we're not supposed to eat animals, they wouldn't be made out of meat.

Yesterday was opening day for deer in PA. My partner on the bunker also owns a meat shop. I went to the meat shop to catch up on some things. My 8 year old daughter was with me. Well, of course they were cleaning the deer. Wasn't sure how my daughter would react but she did fine and said it didn't bother her. Really surprised me in that they were skinning/cutting/gutting the deer 5' away from her and there was 55 gallon drums of "parts" (heads, legs...) right next to her.

I was proud of her!!!

I see that she is not a candidate for PETA...:a1:

Bob,
I know these poeple aren't nuts. Often they are very influincial people with strong views and the bucks to back themselves and others with similar views.

Funny though, how they manage to be "ok" about the use of fossil fuels to drive their cars. You'd think the "ehtical treatment of animals" would include the taking and desecration of those animals of long ago for our "greedy" use for just about all things modern.

Also, curious how they are ok eating the vegetables. Hasn't it been demonstrated that plants respond to music and other stimuli. Can't this be explained as some elementary understanding of the stimuli. Not to mention, the very harvesting of said vegetables takes the much needed food from the smaller, more noble creatures that scientists are always calling "perfect"?

One word for these people - Hypocrites

I've got to go flip my ribeye steak on the grill..............................:tiphat:

Paul McCartney has stirred up a stink after someone showed him a film showing dogs and cats skinned, some skinned alive, for the European fur trade.
Euro MP Struan Stevenson has an array of cat and dog products in his Brussels office - including a coat made from Alsatian skin, a pelt made from four golden retrievers and a blanket made from around 70 cats. All were bought in Europe.

Bob, do you support PETA in their criticism of the pet fur trade?

Or do you find some moral qualm about making a Golden Retriever fur coat? Cat fur? Or a rabbit foot on a keychain for good luck? Those were common when I was a kid. Now I think many Americans would consider them ghoulish.

I don't accept the arguments of many far-out groups, but I do see them as similar to the canary in the coal mine - if someone is concerned then the issue may really deserve more attention, maybe even become a public policy debate.

As for the people in your first post to this thread: OK, I considered their argument and decided I don't choose to follow their lead. Anyone, kids included, who eats meat has to be aware of its origin. But that doesn't justify the cruelty described in this McCartney article. I think there is a legitimate concern here.

There are cultural uses for animal products that are accepatable in some cultures but not in others. I think one of the biggest issues is that as the world population grows the demand for animal products grows. As demand grows then the methods for producing and processing the products has to evolve.

Let's face it, from disease and poverty, urban sprawl, to pollution to animal rights the bottom line is that there are too many people in the world.

Things like PETA are just stupid ways for people to avoid the real issues. They just need to be kept in check so their minority opinion doesn't get to influence the complacent majority.

I don't have the answer - I'm just pointing out the problem (over population). I probably contribute to the problem just as much as the next guy.

I think that there are abuses in just about everything and just about every industry. I think PETA abuses animals as badly as some in the European fur trade and I could not support either. Nor could I support a butcher who did not, in a generally humane fashion, dispatch a cow or a chicken prior to beginning the cleaning process. Let's all be honest and say that death is reasonably ugly, but it does not rule out the legitimate use of animals for food and clothing. Done in a reasonably acceptable way, it is acceptable to the vast majority of the world (probably over 99%) but there are always going to be some bizarre practices that very few can support.

I think I fall into the "normal" category of people who support the raising and harvesting of animials for food, clothing, car seats, etc.

I also think you can trot out examples of things I would not support. I also think that I would not want a job in a slaughterhouse despite the fact that I think it is a legitimate way to harvest meat.
