New military

When I joined we had a three day testing period. Anyone who failed the physical portion was out the door and sent back to the local draft board to do with as they saw fit. If someone was very moderately overweight they would assign an assistant company commander usually an E-2 to accompany them at the chow hall and direct them to which food and the amount. Couldn't pass the swim tests? Go to the Army. Can't pass the classroom work? Go to the Marines.

Pete gets it. Next take all those female Ranger tabs away from those that needed a relaxation of requirements to qualify. Can't carry your own weight or that of a fallen comrade, out the door. See ya.

I got kicked out because I weighed like 210, and the max was 200. Didn't matter that I could 100% do the physical tests (including running with f'ing shin splints) and got outstanding evals... it didn't matter, because it was all about how you "looked."

now the generals are fat slobs, the base I live near is crawling with uniformed members who are so fat, that's it's not funny... it's embarrassing.

I couldn't serve, so my opinion is useless, but the last many decades I wondered how anybody would want to be in the military with all the bullshit.
Today this:

ABOUT TIME !

your opinion *isn't* worthless: "couldn't" =/ "wouldn't".
Draft notice came; I joined the Marines. Despite passing the pre-psychical twice, I was rejected for my broken back. So, I joined the Fire Dept. One can always serve somewhere.

My opinion, Agrees with Waybomb's
