My Weekend

Behind my new retirement place ( if all goes well ) is a 5' high + 15' wide + 60 ft long berm of fill that covers a 2" sewer line that runs from my septic tank to the leech field. The line couldn't be buried because of the ledge in the backyard. As you can see in pic #1it looks like crap. I decided to cut into it and put up a retaining wall and try to hide it. I started July 4 by putting in 4 stones while dtarting on #5 I hit the sewer line which was six feet from where it was supposed to be pic # 2.

This weekend I put in the corner and six others pic #3. At this point I'm pretty happy that the project will do what I want it to.At this point the wall will make a 90% right turn and run on for about 50 to 60 ft. In this run will be a set of steps and a firepit made from old cobblestones pic #4.

All my other walls are made of huge boulders that were blasted out of the foundation so I wanted to keep a rustic look I found the old street curbings locally and cut a pretty good deal on them pic #5. I'm just hoping I have enough to finish.

Looking Good. :thumb:
I'd love to have some stone like that. It's no where to be found around here.

Not sure how digging is in Ohio, it's brutal here you cant put a shovel in the ground there are so many rocks. Here's the side of the house opposite the driveway.

Looks good !!!
How come the line is only 2" ? Is it on a pump ?

I wish I had some rocks that were that square and even to play with !
I moved my driveway and put a berm across the old one. Been playing with rocks, myself..... Also digging up and planting trees.

Keep those joints staggered !!!

The septic tank either pumps the gray water up to the leach field or it's a macerator and just chews everything up. I have a macerator on my travel trailer that says it will pump my holding tanks through a garden hose 75' to 150'. I know for sure it'll do 60'.

It is granite. New Hampshire is known as the Granite State but I think they store their spare stuff at my place.

I thought so. I come from Aberdeen in Scotland which is known as the "Granite City". Most of the 19th century buildings were made out of granite as the biggest granite quarry in Europe was within the city limits.
