Gold medal round will be Wednesday in the UK. So starting in the pre-dawn hours here in the Central Time zone.

Fencing for the UK National Championships. Who would have thunk the potential UK National Champion could be a little girl from rural 'Lowellabama' Indiana.

She calls me her fencing dad. I started her as a high school freshman. She literally lost every bout her freshman year. But never ever quit. She just fell in love with the sport. Went on to become the team captain. Went on to win the all conference award. Went on to earn collegiate scholarships. Went on to fence varsity in NCAA competitions and was an NCAA regional qualifier. Went on to become an NCAA team captain. Went on to get graduate degree scholarship in England at Durham University.

NOW fencing in the gold medal round so try to earn the title of NATIONAL CHAMPION of the UK Collegiate National Championship team. She is individually undefeated in the UK. Can't even say it without tearing up, but so damn proud of this girl, who calls me her 'fencing dad' and comes to see me every time she is home, but damn. Win or lose, this girl never quits. My hero.

Well GOOD NEWS and BAD NEWS today from the UK.

Lexi is undefeated. Lexi's Women's SABER Squad is undefeated. But the overall team, which includes 3 different weapons, lost because both the FOIL and EPEE squads lost. The overall winner, gold medalist, is based on a combined 3 weapon score.

So while she fenced nearly flawlessly, and her squad-mates on Women's Saber did the same, they take home SILVER and are not the national champions. Women's Saber won 45 to 13 in a clearly LOPSIDED victory for Lexi and her squad.
