Kristi KT3 #113 Part III???

Gone But Not Forgotten
I have no idea where my old post of rebuilding old #113 is . So we go forward as of 11/9/2012 .

Here's the deal . I moved from California to remote Idaho and I been bustin my butt ever since to get the house remodeled , new barn and shop built , remodel a commerical building into a 4 plex and about a million other things . I also broke my foot , torn my shoulder to pieces and have had about anything that can happen to my body .
I am finally able to make some time for me .So now I see a light at the end of the tunnel . I hope to hell it is not a incoming train .

In the next few days I hope to get my lift installed in the shop and roll the KT3 into the building to finally start finishing her. I basically have the tracks to rebuild , paint the top and reattach it to the body . Sounds simple enough . I figure it should be done within 8 or 9 years .:wink: Or maybe a couple more months:clap: .

I spent the last 2 days finding KT3 parts and indexing everything .

Looking forward to your pics, and the fishing up of the KT3. Remember when you get'er running to include the pics of it flying over canyons:wink::whistling:

Seriously I am interested in the mechanials of the self leveling system, and how well it worked.

My hand is in a splint and the Snow Trac hasn't been touched yet...

The tilt system really is quite simple . I really believe this will become my daily driver up here .

Drive it Hell !!! I am going to use the shit out of all those gears . Rumor has it , that it will do 37MPH over a cliff and down hill.
 
Yippee! I found the KT3!!! It was under a pile of juck on the trailer .Spent the entire day hauling off crap to the dump . If I can get 3 units of log siding moved in the next few days I might have a spot to move it inside the shop . The car lift has been setting outside for 3 years now . It will be good to finally get it installed again .
 
Car lift is in place !!!:clap: Just need to hook up the 220 and fill the hydraulic tank up and she is ready to lift !!! Maybe tomorrrow .
 
Tuh DuH !!! The shop is now ready !!! I can't believe how long it has taken to get back into the shop .

I will bring the KT3 into the shop bay tomorrow to start the last few items to have her ready to be a S & R rig for distressed Snot Tracs .

I have also made contact with a hydro guru on the KT7 to pump up the drive pumps to produce more speed .Looks like we should be pushin 127 MPH if I figured it right :w00t2:

No one really knows . I thought I had a bite on one near Seattle ,but it never came through . Good for me , I guess .


And now the KT3 News @ 5PM PST :

Today in Elk City at a secret location a Kristi KT3 was unloaded under heavy security to began the final assembly of the track system . Thank goodness the shop was empty at the time because the grounds crew (me) had one hella time getting it to stop as it rolled off the tilt trailer . Thank Goodness ,the owner , Al Hutson used his leg as a chalk block to stop it quickly .No damage was done to the KT3 .

Get Well Cards for best wishes and a fast recovery can be sent the the local Elk City Hospital/clinic addressed to the "Dumb Ass".

Before hobbling off for help, Al did have the common sense to hook up a battery charger . The Doctor stated it should be started tomorrow if Allen is released .
 
We called the hospital and asked for dumb ass and half of the doctors picked up the phone. Man get the he!! Out of there man. Doctor Rum to the rescue:hammer:

What a why to go, the owner of the only kt7 neerly dies from some type of industrial accident involving a life long resoration of a kristi kt3.......these things are going up in value by the minute........I'm liking them more and more.

Best wishes on your recovery Al i hope this isn't another excuse for not getting this kristy done on the oother hand if yoy ever finnish it up and drive it we won't have any thing to tease you about.
 
Well after 3 years the old motor kicked right off and ran as smooth as a kitten . I need to do a couple checks on the new electric fuel pump ,but other than that it seems ready to start the track rebuilding process.
As with the KT7 , I am using HDPE Plastic to make my new cleats from .I worked directly with the engineer to find the best combination of HDPE to prevent cracking ,freezing, or breaking . So far I am very impressed and the total cost to re cleat was under $400 . No more Hickory Cleats . The cleats will also have a wear bar of 1 1/4" channel steel as a cover .
Sorry about the dirt on her , but sitting 3 years under a tarp outside on a trailer was tough on the old girl .

I think i got ahead of myself a little . The first thing to do is get the hydraulics on the tilt system all hooked up and working correctly . I have seen more than one Kristi with torn up sides where the hydraulics were out of adjustment and some Snot Trac owner tried to drive it anyway . 4 rams work the four corners of the KT3 and a small hyd pump runs the whole system . My power comes from a belt off the motor but I have also seen some home built setups that used a starter to run the hydraulics . I have only found one source for the belt driven set up and it came from McMaster Carr . It is a small tooth style rubber belt that cost under $10 .As hydraulics are applied to the system , one side will retract the ram while the other side will extend the ram . This gives the snowcat the ability to tilt .
 
The guys found my old thread on the KT3 . Do you all think i should merge it all together ? Seems like it would be les confusing .
 
What the hell ! After fixing a small problem on my Fuel pump I went to recheck the motor to make sure it ran smoothly . The damn Ignition switch quit working !!!!! So now I got to order another VW switch up . I guess sitting outside for 3 years fouled it up .:sad:
 
As a sideliner, and having not met al yet, I say keep two threads! Twice the teasing....

I am kristy curious so you won't get much ribbing from me.... but it is fun to read. One thing the kristy crowd has going for them is the registry. that kristy web page is pretty neat.

in the confusing department do you get in the side or back of a III?
I just have a funny image in my head of a rummed up fella, Stumbling or hopping around on a sore paw/hoof... Trying to get in the back door tripping over that gynormous gas tank and landing head first into all those valves on the dash. I assume that is the gas tank? 8-)

Ok this is where I seem to have a problem . It appears he does not want to rib me but .... Then he starts attacking my KT3 for lack of proper entry :unsure:.


Depending on my level of sobriety I ususlly try to enter from one of the side doors unless I can't get my leg up and then I do the Snot Trac crawl through the rear door . And yes , That is a fuel tank . also a seat .

Oh the hell with it ... I'll just leave the old thread alone and start fresh with this one .

utah wilson used to complain about getting in and out of his snow master maybe he should try Als krusty on for size

And I thought having the tank inside the Snow Trac was a bad idea. Talk about a hot seat, kinda reminds me of the old Vega's.:whistling:
