Come with.

I just went off on one of my kids becaseu he has recently started saying things like, "Come with." "Go with." I got to thinking about it, why does this drive me nuts? It is not gramatically correct is it? Why do people do it? Does it bother anyone else? Sometimes I just need another opinion.

When he was talking to his brother he wanted him to go to the car with him to get something out. He looked at his brother and said "Come with." I have heard other people do it, but I find it irritating. Come with me dad is ok, but Can I go with? seems to be missing something.

mak it will be all picked up at school, kids just try to fit in and start talking in ways that makes them feel they are not any different.

Time to worry is when they tell you to read between the lines and tell you to go forth and multiply.

I do understand .....but give a little slack.

Also, if it gets attention, even negative attention, it has served its purpose. Best to just ignore it. I wish I could take my own advice! Good luck.

Thanks. Somethings just bother me. I am having another coffee, my son will be fine.

Oh another thing that drives me nuts, and actually the reason I wont carry my handgun into a resturaunt. People blowing thier noses while I am eating. Does that bother anyone else?

I have been sicker than a dog for about 3 weeks. I finally feel really, really good and am getting ready to go workout and see how that goes. That is probably why I am in such a good mood today and picking on people.

It disgusts me when people spit in public.....just walking along a street and spit on the floor........vermin scum.

The sound of someone blowing their nose in a restaurant is bad, but not as bad as someone coughing into the back of your head on a plane, or worse, sneezing without covering their face.

My wife used to say "come with" a lot when we first started going out. I think she used it in the context of "come with me" . . . oh man this just reply just isn't going in a good direction. :hide:

I think it bothers you when your son says it because how we speak, or our kids, makes an impression on strangers. Possibly you are worried about him making a negative impression and having people judge him by that? I know that has been a concern of mine. I don't want them to sound like wanna be gangsters or a ditzy, brainless girl.

I have always used big words when speaking to them, though they make fun of me for it. After they are done laughing, I define the word and then tell them, "It's called a vocabulary. Get one!"

I think it's working as those incidents are fewer and farther in between and I notice every now and again, they incorporate larger words into their speaking vocabulary.

YES! I am completey disgusted by nose blowing, in restaurants or any public place, but a restroom. That's where that stuff belongs.

My other pet peeve are handkerchiefs. I'm so glad they have gone by the way, for the most part. Every once in a while, I will notice a man pull one out.

Yuck! That is the worst part of trip on an airplane, the close quarters with sick people who haven't manners or common sense.

Why do people do that? What necessitates spitting period, much less in public. I don't ever need to spit unless I'm brushing my teeth or in the dentist office and then, they don't even require you to do that anymore, since they have suction hoses now. No more bowls.

Spitting in public is just filthy.

Nope ! Your missing a great opportunity . Start your own language to start talking back to them when they do this .
For example when he says "Come with" you say "On hold" which means your are busy . He will get the idea soon enough  :yum:.

I like it when a child asks Mom for something and she replies"give me a minute"

A Mummies minute can range anything between 1 min and 4 days if not longer:yum::yum::yum:

That's my favorite, or, "I'll think about it." :yum: Off they go to mope.

Mom's get to have fun too sometimes!

Did anyone else's mom use the term "Make it snappy" (meaning hurry up)?
Bonehead

Yes, she did and "get a move on"! I know a variety of Spanish terms for that too.

"Vayance! Ahora!" My friend's mom spoke only Spanish, she was always hurrying us off to school. :)

My grandma used a fly swatter made with the wire handle. Mom also was the only woman I ever knew who could take off a flip flop on the run and chase you down and smack you with it.

remember these?
When the ball would break off, my Mother would save the paddle for future use..

And I deserved all that I got and then some. You could say I was a mischievous brat at times. Those things broke pretty easy. Now my seventh grade shop teacher had a real one that did not break. It stung like mad!
