CBS, just purchased, now wants to buy CNN, and Switch to Right Wing News?

Skydance, owned by the son of Larry Ellison who is currently worth more than Elon Musk and is a strong support of President Trump, just purchased CBS and just put in a new news director who is conservative. There are now talks of taking over CNN too and possibly taking on FOX News as the standard bearer for "fair and balanced" news.

I would certainly welcome another source of news that is not far left.

CBS shifts to appease the right under new owner

Under new owner David Ellison, CBS parent company Paramount has taken several steps to appease concerns about bias from the Trump administration, including hiring a news ombudsman with strong conservative credentials.

CBS' new corporate owner has taken a series of concrete steps to address the concerns of the news division's sharpest critics — particularly President Trump and his allies.
In recent days, the network selected a new ombudsman for CBS News with strong conservative credentials. It promised to run full, unedited interviews on a key public affairs show after receiving blowback from Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem. And it's in talks to bring on a top news executive who believes the mainstream press is reflexively biased.
. . .
Its coverage of the assassination of John F. Kennedy, the Vietnam War, U.S. astronauts walking on the moon, Watergate and the Tiananmen Square massacre helped to define those events for Americans. In recent years, some of its most prominent correspondents have covered Trump aggressively. And Trump has attacked the network in his public statements.
These latest moves under Skydance follow a $16 million payment by CBS' previous owner to settle a lawsuit Trump brought against the network and regulatory pressure by Trump's chief broadcast regulator against the sale. Even since CBS changed hands, it has not escaped the wrath of the Trump administration. Recently, the White House and Noem lambasted the network over the handling of a recent interview.
Now, The Wall Street Journal reports that the company wants to acquire Warner Bros. Discovery — the owner of Warner Bros. studios, HBO Max and cable news giant CNN. Such grand ambitions would have to pass muster with Trump administration regulators once more. And they would also raise questions about CNN's direction under Skydance, were they to come to pass.

Discussions to give Bari Weiss news leadership role

Among the moves being discussed is one to bring a contrarian journalist on board to steer CBS News. Skydance is in talks to pay $100 million or more to acquire the buzzy digital news and opinion startup The Free Press, which has drawn a lot of headlines, paying subscribers, and investors in its 4 1/2 years. . . .
Weiss delivered a blast at what she says is bias in the mainstream media, including at The New York Times, where she was an opinion editor. Among the examples of ensuing coverage: essays focusing on a perceived pro-Palestinian slant in the media's coverage of Israeli military's actions in the Israel-Hamas war and accusations that NPR's reporting has a liberal slant.
She appears unlikely to run CBS News on a day-to-day level or to oversee logistics. Should the deal be consummated, it seems likely she would operate as a senior news executive shaping the strategy and tone of its reporting, helping to ensure its overall coverage is headed in a desired direction. . .

Well well well it looks like "journalists" who do real 'journalism' may be in charge at CBS News.

Bari Weiss is a real journalist. She is one of the reporters who actually dug into "the Twitter files" to expose how Joe Biden used the power of the government to censor opposing opinions.

A former 'mainstream' media investigative reporter, she has an impeccable record as a real journalist. The started the The Free Press, which is a website that has grown tremendously in its short timespan, and is known for truth telling. She is not right wing or left wing. She follows and reports the story. She will be Editor In Chief, so not leading the hiring and firing or running the daily news, but certainly influencing the content and very likely making a real mark by dragging CBS News from the far left and back into the real world. No doubt there will be some kicking and screaming by some talking heads, but I suspect this will turn a page toward fair reporting. She has a reputation of being ANTI-WOKE and not towing the company line.

CBS is in 3rd place out of 3 for the major networks. Don't count on her to continue down the same path of parroting the Democratic talking points. She won't be a booster for Trumpisms either. But we, hopefully, will see some real reporting from CBS very soon.

Bari Weiss to lead CBS News as part of major Paramount Skydance shakeup: sources

Published Oct. 2, 2025, 3:24 p.m. ET
Paramount Skydance is poised to name Bari Weiss as editor in chief of CBS News in the coming days — giving the hard-charging journalist unusual clout to revamp the struggling network as it also acquires her scrappy news site the Free Press, The Post has learned.
Weiss — a 41-year-old former New York Times opinion writer who has built the Free Press into a buzzworthy site with a contrarian bent — is expected to be named to the top post in a Monday announcement, although the talks are in flux and the timing could change, a source close to the situation said.
In a remarkable reshuffle of CBS News’ decades-old management structure, Weiss will report directly to Paramount Skydance Chief Executive David Ellison as she helps set the editorial direction at the Tiffany Network’s third-place news division, a source close to the situation said.

Weiss’s direct line to Ellison means she will not report to CBS News president Tom Cibrowski, who currently reports to George Cheeks, chair of TV media at Paramount Skydance. No further details could be immediately learned about how Weiss would work with Cibrowski.
Insiders said the hiring of Weiss casts doubts on speculation about the possible return of former CBS President David Rhodes to the network, with one source saying their job candidacies were an “either/or” situation.
Sources told The Post that Weiss could be a strong counterpart to Cibrowski, a former “Good Morning America” executive who is regarded more as a production wizard than a journalist.
Others said they expect it will only be a matter of time before Weiss — who has emerged as a leading voice against antisemitism and the “woke” elites in mainstream media — zeroes in on Cibrowski’s job.
“Bari is extremely ambitious. Tom had better watch out,”. . . .

I just want the honest to God news, I'm a grown adult, I can handle what I hear whether it's good or bad. I don't want right wing or left wing news. I hardly watch any news now because I'm so sick of all the bias. All parties are as crooked as the next, it's just who can hide it or who can control the media. It's sad when you have to get your news from other countries about what's going on in your own country because all the media is so corrupt.

this. 100%.
shove the spin, just give me the facts.
and if you find out later that you made a mistake, f'ing admit it, don't pretend it didn't happen.

It is not the responsibility of the Media to report their version of the news. They are expected to report a truthful account of events. Most particularly when relaying news of THE PEOPLE'S government. Editorials belong on the back pages, not the headlines. And they should be listed as such.

Which means, WE THE PEOPLE don't want right wing news coverage. We want the right truth news coverage.

The BROADCAST networks, who have an FCC license, and use public airwaves, in theory, are bound to a high standard, but that is not enforced.

Cable, satellite, internet, etc etc etc are exempted.

back when we started pushing iraq out of kuwait, i watched it on cnn.

and not once did i have to wonder if it was true, or accurate, or if cnn was spinning it. they just gave the facts with live coverage.

i miss that kind of no-BS news.

This may be why Bari Weiss was tapped for CBS

She is a non-nonsense journalist who actually digs into the stories. Unlike the talking heads who are fed a script. You can tell that she is dangerous because the known lefties in the media are very upset. She follows the story, not the talking points. She likely will shape a fair representation of the story, rather than one side of the story.
