If your 6000 is broken then I would suggest that it is no better than your 5000Viking said:
My local dealer is not impressed with the reliability of the 7000 series or the 8000 series and will not stock either of them. He pushes customers to Kubota when they want a tractor that would be comparable to anything in the 7000/8000 size range due to reliability/warrenty/repair issues. The 5000 series are typically on his lot in the summer months. He stocks a nice selection of the smaller units and keeps some ZTRs around too.

Bob....I don't have a 6284 yet, and maybe never will. I spoke to a tech at Cub Cadet corporate yesterday. He guranteed me that by the end of the week I would have either a brand new tractor (another 5234D) or the engine replaced in my current 5234D (the replacement tractor with 20 hours on it).
I talked to him about just skipping the whole 5000 series right now and give me a 6284. He was hesitant and said that a better alternative may be just go right up to a 7500 series. He kept steering me away from the 6284. I would consider that but the 7500 series does not have a mid pto option and I need a belly mower. Maybe they are having problems with the 6284 as well, both the 5000 series and the 6000 series are made by Cub.
Anyway, I just got finished mowing this morning with my neighbor's Deere 445 with 60" mmm. Very nice tractor I must say. I know it's not a sub-cut and a more appropriate comparison in the Deere world would be a 2210 but the 445 was solid, smooth running (twin gas, liquid cooled) and no problem cutting through my overgrown yard. If Cub can't follow through with their gurantee by the end of the week I may just be going shopping at a green store for a new sub-cut

It would take me a little while to work my way down there because of the long slender sides. So it must be a ravine. Not much vegetation down at the bottom and it looks a bit dry. Although I can't tell as there appears to be a scrap of thrown out cloth down there blocking the view of the stream at the very bottom.

I stopped by a local JD/Kubota dealer today and took a look at the 2305 and the BX2230. Both look good to me, both are comfortable. I think the loader on the 2305 is stronger and the mowing deck on the BX is deeper and the salesman said does a better job with long grass. Selling price on the JD 2305 with loader and 62" mmm is $14,500, the BX with FEL and 60" mmm is $13,500. Prices seem ok to me, what about you guys?

I spoke with Cub Cadet and my dealer today. They gave me 2 choices. 1) Take a new 5264D at no cost to me...this tractor is basically the same as the 5234D, just 3 more hp. OR, 2) Upgrade to a larger 6284 tractor but I would have to kick in $2500 which I think is way to much $ and I don't feel good putting in another $2500 into a tractor that the Cub Cadet rep tried to steer me away from on Monday.
The Cub rep did tell me that all shipments of 5000 and 6000 series have stopped until all tractors have been inspected and tested by Cub technicians (I would think that would be normal operating procedure). Also, I am not the only customer to have their 5000 series tractor replaced at no cost.
They seemed not to want to consider a refund. I may have to hire a lawyer if I start demanding a refund. I am leaning to taking the 5264D. I did demand an extension on the 2 year warranty to 3 years if I take the 5264D which the dealer said was quite possible. The saga continues...

Legally you may have a very difficult time getting a refund, and it may end up costing you money to get the refund (due to legal fees). I agree that $2500 is too much to invest into a 6000 series machine given that the Cub rep steered you away from it! I'd bet that your best bet is to take the new 5264D. JMO

Bob, I know you are correct regarding the legal fees. I'll end up paying an attorney more than I paid for the tractor...lol. I'll probably just take the 5264D, FEL and 60" mmm. Maybe I should just leave it on my trailer and take it around to the JD, Kubota, Massey dealers and see what I could get on a trade to one of their sub-cuts. I'd probably get killed financially trading the damn thing...

My dealer just called and Cub is refunding my money in full. I'll get the check tomorrow. I get to go tractor shopping!
I have already looked at the JD 2305 and the Kubota BX...both look good to me. But another thought just crossed my mind, how about that deal Kioti is running on the LB1914 and FEL for $9995. That would take care of all my loader and 3 pt hitch work. I'll pick up a garden tractor to just mow the yard. I wouldn't have to mess with removing and reinstalling the mower deck if I had 2 machines.
There is a Kioti dealer that some guy is running out of his doublewide about 15 miles from me. He has a few tractors in the front yard and a chain hoist hanging from a tree. I think I'll go check'em out!

I spent a few hours tractor shopping/looking yesterday. I like the JD2305 a lot but this is a good opportunity to step up to a larger tractor so I also tried out a JD 2320 and only sat on a Kubota 7610. Both are great tractors I think. With the loader and MMM the JD is only $800 more than the Kub, no big deal.
So it's really only going to come down to a few features. I like the drive over MMM of the JD. That makes removal and installation of the mower very easy. The Kub is 300 lbs lighter than the JD, better for the lawn. I think the JD is a littler stronger in the 3 pt hitch and loader department...I'll have to check on that. I did notice that the loader joystick is up and out of the way on the Kub, the JD stick is next to my right thigh and I did bump it a lot. They will both handle snow removal well with the loader and rear blade. Good dealers for both brands. They're both great tractors....what to do??????????

Wow. A full refund. That is fantastic, probably a smart move on Cub's part also.
Great time to upsize. Be sure to check out the New Holland offerings also. Sit in as many seats as you can. It will be worth it.
The only thing better than the hunt is using your new tractor.

Like Doc said, go sit in a bunch of seats; and if you find yourself returning to one particular seat more than the others, then you have found your tractor. 
A high quality tractor will last your lifetime, so go for value over price. Happy hunting!
BTW - I have had both JD and Kubota. You can't lose either way, but if you are going to be taking the mmm on and off frequently, sounds like the JD might be the ticket. The extra weight won't hurt your lawn, and you will likely cuss and fume less when it's time to mow, so your blood pressure will be lower and.....

I like to keep my business local. I tried again today. I went to my local JD dealer to get their prices on a 2305 and 2320.

The dealer 30 miles away will charge me $40 to pick up and deliver (round trip) my tractor for warranty or non-warranty work. My local dealer charges $50. I think 25 miles is worth the savings. When I told the local salesman he was not in the ballpark and asked for my numbers, he did some quick claculations and said they can't operate on a 9% margin. I said "how about a 0% margin" and left the store.
