Adding an ice maker with drain pump. Where to connect the drain?

Hi all,

I'm planning to install an ice maker next to the kitchen sink. I prefer the clear ice and those all require a drain. Gravity drain is not an option, so getting an ice maker with a drain pump. Where to put the drain? #1 or #2? Or does it matter?

I prefer #1 since I will be replacing all the plumbing including the P-trap, but not the pipe to the garage disposal. When replacing the plumbing, I can use the tailpiece pipe with a 5/8 inch branch (see pic) to attached the ice maker's drain. Does this work? Thanks.

I'd say "1" would be my preferred choice, but as the drain line from the ice maker is actually draining clean water, choice "2" is also acceptable.

In your sink, "1" would be a tight fit so "2" might be the more practical fit.

I'd agree that either location would work. And 1 would be preferable.
But a tailpiece is normally made to attach directly to the sink drain above where the number 2 pipe comes in. I'm not so sure you can connect the tailpiece at the lower location. The ones I've worked with the threads on them are reversed to attach to the sink.

1 looks tight. Is pick 2. But then again, put it right below the sink, above where 2 connects.
I have an ice maker; you'll like it. Mine does use extra water to constantly replace the ice, so the ice doesn't get dehydrated.

Thanks everyone for the comments. I think #2 is a better location as well, but was lazy hoping to get away with #1 since that section needs to be replaced anyway due to the slow leak.

As for the ice maker, I'm not sure why but MOST of the clear ice makers have terrible reviews. Even those with 4 stars review still have 5-10% one star reviews due to the loudness or premature failures. Originally, I wanted the "gourmet" ice, but after some reading online, looks like those fail most often and are loud. If you know of any that is reliable and quite, please suggest as I prefer the gourmet ice.

So, I've decided to comprise and get the clear cub ice maker. Again, after reading a lot of reviews, more expensive doesn't mean more reliable. The $2.5K-$3.0K models from Scotsman and Kitchen Aid are just as bad as the cheaper models. So, I've settled on model TIM1501 made by Thor Kitchen's. I've never even heard of this brand until looking for a ice maker.

It's currently out of stock at Lowe's and HD, so waiting for it to come back in stock. BB has it in stock, but I just prefer to buy from Lowe's or HD.
