What are you doing today, II

Spotty rain today so I'm working close to the shop.
Pulled out the generators for testing. I'm pissed. I left the gas in the ON position in a couple generators. Now they won't start, probably due to friggin E10 sitting in the carbs (plus their batteries are dead).
The other generators where I left the fuel in the OFF position started up first pull.

So, my generator work will take hours instead of 30 minutes (total for 5 gensets) as I work on carbs and batteries.

Brought my son to the airport to fly out then went to physio (thankfully) as I was awake in pain half the night last night. Then home to load up the trailer for a dump run. I'm still cleaning up the remnants of the fifth wheel camper I demoed back there. I then turned my attention to an older snowmobile that had been sitting for 3 years and skidded it into the shop with the plow truck so I can get it running again.

Sick in bed.

Yesterday I was sore and achy, more than normal. Got worse as the day went on. I thought it was arthritis. Progressively worse during the night. Up at 3:30am. Everything hurts. Joints and muscles. No headache. No sore throat. No stomach issues. Just massive amounts of pain. Tramadol and Advil didn’t help.
Oh, yeah....... I had that last week.

......... I died.

Hope you start feeling better, soon.

"Google" led me to some nasty hypotheticals.

..... If you feel this bad tomorrow..... go see a doctor.

(Maybe the E.R.).

Actually feeling a bit better this afternoon. I am not going to drive down to campus for fencing practice, but definitely improved over yesterday & earlier today

I don't know what this is but damn it was miserable. I've never had everything hurt like that before.

Headed off to my son's junior varsity football game. I hope they can dodge the rain showers that have been off and on pretty much all evening.

Perhaps because you were never, ever this old before.
Hey, don't laugh. I went to medical school for 1 year to become a Paramedic.

I actually thought of that.

I do know I tend to get sore faster, sweat more, need more pain meds than I did 10, 20 and 30 years ago.

But this is some next level shit. Tramadol + Advil did nothing for the pain.

Been in bed all day except one trip to the kitchen and a few to the bathroom. Took a couple NyQuil capsules 6pm. I had a couple earlier today and they helped a lot. It is peak allergy season on top of whatever else beat the crap out of me. At least the NyQuil will help with the itching eyes. And it has tylenol as one of its ingredients so maybe it will help reduce some of the pain. While the pain is much less than it was, I'm still pretty miserable.

This has been an absolutely miserable allergy season. I haven't gotten a goldenrod ass-whoopin' like this in a long long time.

Goldenrod is finally turning brown, in my area. I had to buy nasal spray and primatene mist in the spring, and I'm glad I have it because it's been the only way I have been able to get any sleep, these last several weeks.

Something in the air.............. it's so bad, this year. :hide:

..... (Hang in there, Melendude).

The game started and both teams got to play a series of offense and defense when the lightening and rain started. Game was cancelled and rescheduled for another date. No score either team.

Odd but I too am suffering worse than I have in a long time. I have always had "hay Fever" allergies. Sometimes in my youth, I was literally bedridden. Mostly itchy eyes and heavy lungs. As I got older, symptoms reduced to mere annoyance level.
Until this season.

Right now, I cannot see with my right eye. The itchy swelling comes and goes every day. Drops help but only temporarily. Right now I am typing with only my left eye open. Some days it is bad, some it is worse. Today was just a bad day so I was able to do some stuff in the garage putting away tools, hardware, and things in the refurbished workshop.

That said, this year has been terrible for allergy sufferers.

However, we are supposed to get three days of gentle rain. Perhaps it will cleanse some of the crap out of the air.

I find that since the whole covid epidemic, the common cold has been more intense and lasts longer. Could be because we all spent over a year in isolation where our bodies immune systems weakened?

I'm not sure what the plans are for today 🤔. I guess it all depends on my lower back and if I can stand and walk. I do have to go to the city to pick up a few things for the plow truck. Other than that, maybe a fire this evening in the back yard?

Got to say I am back to 99% crotchety old man this morning. Literally all the pains and aches are gone, even the ones I'm used to having. Honestly feeling good and sipping on coffee like I had a full body 'reset' over the past 36 hours.

As for the allergies, this year is miserable. I think because we have a long fairly dry late summer, make for perfect pollen conditions. Goldenrod, by the way, does not cause most people allergies. But it blooms at the exact same time as ragweed. Many people confuse the plants, ragweed flowers don't even look like flowers as you drive or walk by them, but the goldenrod has those tall shoots and spires of yellow. And they often grow together, nearly side by side, usually goldenrod on the perimeter of giant ragweed.

I take Claritin 24 hour daily but this season have had to resort to Benadryl tablets after spending time outside.

I’ll trade you some hornet welts I got at the cabin for the rest of what you have

Waiting around to take delivery of a new ditch/bank flail mower and hang some lights in and around the new lean-to.

The lovely Mrs_Bob is up in Chicago for 2 days and I think I will take it easy this morning. Normally I'd be up and out of the house working on the property, but I think after my experience on Monday & Tuesday, maybe a rest (half) day is important? I'll have a busy afternoon with double fencing session. Afternoon session is run by my friend, I assist. Evening session is run by me. Starts about 4pm, usually home before 9:30pm.

I'm gonna tackle a few more big limbs on the Braddford Pear tree.

I have to take it down because;
a) They are virtually illegal in the county.
b) I need the firewood.
c) I am planting a 15' high Rose-Bloom Crabapple in it's place.
Grown from a seed some 10 years ago in a large wood planter pot.

I have to ask. What county in what state and why are they illegal?

Bradford Pears are a known nuisance tree. Many communities have outlawed across the nation. While they are beautiful, they are invasive, they stink and attract pests (Japanese Beetles love them). Plus their branches are weak and often break off, causing potential for injury to people.

It’s paper day and I am doing some of my last invoices, jr’s insurance is done, nothing else will come to me. After this last job is done in the field, so am i.

I sat down and paid the bills today. Found a rebate check from my insurance company and ran that to the bank. It was a nice surprise to find on "bill day"

Because they were originally imported from China neutered/infertile. However, they ot out into the wild and unlike the imported cultivar the new seedlings have 3" thorns.
Worse, they pop up everywhere along our highways.

These Q-tip beauties in the spring are planted everywhere by residents, developers, and towns throughout all of America, because they were pretty, grew quickly and were cheap. A few years ago, my company's industrial park had the gas company out looking for a gas leak. The smell of gas was overpowering to the point of gagging everybody. We evacuated the buildings.

Turns out it was the flowering trees planted throughout the park.

I'm keeping the identity of the landscape developer a secret.

I have the reputation of being the mean coach who doesn't smile. Doesn't let students actually fence. And just does repetitive drills. Over and over and over and over and over again. Somehow a photo of me smiling was captured. A weak moment in my life, no doubt.

Fortunately I found out about the picture before class ended so we stayed late, some staying almost 45 minutes overtime. Sweating noodle bodies went home. I'm sure they are taking Ben Gay baths tonight. Don't make me smile and they will not have to endure the pain again.

Got home at just before 10pm. Official class end is 8:30pm and the club is only 15, maybe 20 minutes away. So we really stayed LATE tonight.

Damn I'm in pain. Tramadol (mild opioid + 3 Advil) on the way home. Followed by 3-4 ounces of very nice bourbon. Pain is now gone. Honestly I need surgery to repair a torn shoulder muscle, probably would take fewer drugs, but I really don;t want surgery so I live with the pain. YES, I am an idiot.

A couple people stayed late and had no clue that I am a 100% volunteer at the club. No pay. In fact NONE of our coaches or officers get paid. We are a real charity club, fully volunteer staffed. The only time a coach gets paid is if he/she gives a private lesson. I give none. Some coaches do, and it helps the members. So I condone it, but but we are literally among the lowest priced clubs in the nation, ANNUAL dues at our club are about 25% lower than 2 MONTHS of dues at most clubs. All our dues go to pay our rent and equipment repairs or purchases.

Bob - Can you tell us about the pain? I have something wrong in my shoulder. X-ray shows no bone damage or arthritis. My arm can and does go numb. I can lift my arm straight to the front or rear but can't really lift it straight out to the side without severe pain. Pinched nerve?

I have a torn rotator cuff. Surgery needed to repair it. I can use my arm but I get pain in my neck, shoulder, bicep and shoulder blade areas when I overdo things (basically every time I am very active coaching fencing). Simple things like wiring a ceiling light fixture, which reaching up, especially while holding things, hurts too.

But NO numbness. I have full motion, but with pain. It's been diagnosed by doctors, they say surgery. I don't want it, at least not yet.
