America's oldest family farm for sale

Like the guy in the video said. Should I plant x number of crops for this much, or sell for this amount and sit and drink ice tea.

Yep , I dont really blame him , & he,s much more respectfull of his kids then most would be by not preasuring them into taking over & I respect him for that . I just see to many farms lost to housing developments & such & this being the oldest American farm left & that many generations I just think its sad .

Hopefully the new owners will see it the same way , as I see it its a huge piece of working history & would be a shame to not keep it going even though it is a small farm . Being brought up around My famillys farms that have all been liquidated I,m a little sensitive I recon .

Cowboy, I agree with you completely. It is sad. Tempered only by the dad making sure that it will stay a farm, and loving his kids enough to let them make their own choices.

If they don't sell it now the feds will make them sell it with the estate taxes when he passes anyway. Seen it happen all too often to farms and businesses.:hammer::hammer:

Yea, it's a tough, tough decision but you have got to admire the guys attitude.

We're third generation farmers (cattle) but looking around, none of us can see a fourth generation. When my M-I-L passes we'll keep it going but for what?. Mainly because we all love it, enjoy the work, the good times and sense of family that come with it but what will happen after we are all gone? It's a real dilemma. There's no easy answer. I sometimes wish that we had the courage and common sense to do what that gentleman is doing but we're stubborn and come from a long line of stubborn. We will hang on to the bitter end and let the next generation sort it out. What will we care, we'll enjoy it while we have it and then we'll be gone.
