I saw that this morning myself and thought it was funny. Poor Brits forgot all about catholics once the started the Church of England.

:yum::yum::yum::yum::yum::yum: Can you believe this guy. If I was a head of the Catholic Church I would throw him out. He does not follow the beliefs of the Catholic Church. And I wonder how many believe his story coming from Saginaw Michigan and how everybody is so upbeat there. Give me a break.

Today as President Obama gave a speech on the Stimulus Recovery Bill, many people may have noticed Vice President Biden in the background with something on his forehead.
Just what was on Biden’s forehead? It was ash in the sign of the cross from a mixture of burned palms and sacred oils because today is Ash Wednesday – the Catholic Church’s observation of the first day of Lent.

But just how Catholic is America’s first Catholic Vice President? Let’s take a look at some of Biden’s political positions and compare them with the teachings of the Church.

On abortion: Biden believes the Supreme Court decision that legalized abortion-on-demand (Roe v. Wade) should remain intact. He also has received a 100% rating from NARAL Pro-Choice America, pledged to appoint pro-choice Supreme Court nominees, and voted no on making it a crime to harm an unborn fetus during another crime. In short, he is a pro-choice politician that strongly supports abortion rights.
However, the Catholic Church is opposed to abortion in any circumstance. The Church is pro-life.

On embryonic stem cell research & human cloning: Biden has voted to expand funding for embryonic stem cell research and has voted no on banning human cloning.
However, the Catholic Church is opposed to embryonic stem cell research and human cloning.

On same-sex marriage: Biden has voted no on a constitutional ban of same-sex marriage.
However, the Catholic Church supports the definition of marriage as only between one man and one woman.

On school prayer: Biden voted no on requiring public schools to allow voluntary prayer.
However, the Catholic Church supports voluntary prayer in public schools.

On the death penalty: Biden authored the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994 which greatly expanded the federal death penalty.
However, the Catholic Church is against the death penalty.

On the Iraq War: Biden voted for the Iraq War resolution.
However, the Catholic Church is opposed to the current war in Iraq.
(Additionally, Biden also voted against confirming fellow Catholic Supreme Court Justices John Roberts and Samuel Alito, yet voted for confirming Catholic Justice Sonia Sotomayor.)
My question to Vice President Biden is – Why do you claim to be Catholic when your political positions and votes go against numerous teachings of the church? That’s like a Nazi saying he likes Jewish people and enjoys Jewish culture or it’s like a Socialist supporting free markets and private property rights.

If a politician is going to parade his Catholic beliefs about – especially on Ash Wednesday – at least defend the teachings of the Church. Otherwise pick a new religion.

Now there is the whole problem with organized religion in my opinion, you can't have your own opinions.

C of E doesn't hold sway over the whole UK. Besides, I have never seen a British Catholic do that to themselves in my life. Maybe PG, who's lived in both places can set us straight but I bet most Brits, when they find out the reason, break down in hysterical laughter. "He did what to himself????". Just saying.

Well the woman apologized at the end of the clip once she realized what day it was. Truly a foot in mouth incident.

Joe I think within reason you can have different opinions amongst the group. But something as decisive as abortion I don't think you can. Gun control for example, some churches are for it and some are not. But they are not going to push that down you and will allow the members to have their opinion.

As I have said before on abortion I have no opinion pro or con. Now I have 4 kids, 17 grandkids and 4 great grandkids so my wife and I never gave it any thoughts for sure. I had the problem of having kids fixed at 21 years old with a minor surgical procedure which by the way at the time no catholic doctor would perform. I was also raised by catholic grandparents so I know their rules on such issues as birth control in general, sorry I don't buy the line that abortion shouldn't be between a woman doctor and her own moral code. I sure don't want my Representative to serve a Pope in Rome wishes over what the people that voted for him might want either. As for being against abortion simply choose not to have one you do have that right.

Joe, I know your against abortion. I appreciate that. My point is how can Biden Spout Life and then vote Choice. Is it not a hypocritical?? And as being conservative I am just as upset with the Rep's on this as I think they have done nothing for the children in my book.

No it isn't if that is what the majority of his voters in his district are for. His job is to represent those voters not his personal views. This is the reason for all the flak when JFK ran for office, the first catholic president. He came out and said straight out he is there to serve the American people, all of them and not a pawn of the Pope. Now this is another of my problems with religion as you see a womans right to choose as forcing something down your throat and the other side sees it as religion being force down their throats. Both sides in this issue have the right to decide for themselves which I have no problem with at all. I have the right to choice and that the government hasn't taken away from me in this case.

No it isn't if that is what the majority of his voters in his district are for.

Probably agree with you. However I would have to think that the majority of voters in his district are Catholic. Just thinking that is all. But I do agree he should vote with what his majority is.
