Tennis Elbow

thcri

Gone But Not Forgotten
Well it caught up to me. I am on this large Demand Shed Project doing programming and my elbow for the last two months is killing me. People have been giving me different types of mouse pads with rests on them and I can't stand them. I have always hated any type of mouse pad but I have to give in. What options are out there that have been successful for all of you?

Do you have a good mouse? Something ergonomic there may make a difference. I like the Logitech Mouseman Wheel. Also, how's your mouse movement sensitivity? You shouldn't have to move your hand much or twist your wrist. Scrolling side-to-side shouldn't be more than an inch or so.

If you want, I'll check with Mickey (Mouse) when I see him. I'll bet he's got the best "pads". I believe he also has a castle or 2.

Then again, I like BD's solution...

I guess as much as I would like one of them BD I won't be getting one. I sent my secretary the pic's of them and asked her to get me one of the two. My secretary is also my wife but I will be ok, the tennis elbow doesn't hurt as much anymore. :hide:

I have a LogiTech that is ergonomic. I have it set so the pointer moves pretty fast and I don't have to move it much. My wife gave me a mouse pad with a pad on it kind of like BD's but no great view. Using that pad seems to hurt me more than not having a pad.

How about a chair with an arm rest that is far enough forward to support your elbow when using the mouse?

I will have to try that. At home when I am programming or lurking here I sit in my chair and my mouse is on the end table which is lower than the chair. My elbow seems to be ok then.

I try to vary hands and positions, but if I forget to switch up, I don't get it in the elbow as much as the lower arm or the shoulder.

Got the strap. That seems to hurt it more than anything but am using it. Ice during the day, and heat at night helps. Then going to work it is like I hurt it all over again. Will check your link out, thanks

I used to have a co-worker with carpal tunnel who used one of the roller bars with an adjustable split keyboard and she loved it.

Logitech tracman wheel. Only move your thumb and 2 fingers. Scroll with the wheel. Arm stays still and it supports your hand well. Have 4 of them. Even use it on the wife's laptop. The only thing I hate worse than a mouse and pad is the laptop finger pad.

Question: what are you taking for pain relief?

Will give the Aleve a try. I have been putting ice on it during the day and at night been putting on something similiar to Ben Gay.

If it's still swollen and feels bad, I'd alternate between ice and heat therapy, if it simply hurts and there isn't any redness or swelling, then use heat because you want to encourage blood flow.
Steve, the only thing that works for me for this type of pain is Aleve.
Nothing else.
Ben Gay is good, but Tiger Balm is the stuff!!

Most guys are stupid. You baby it for some time getting it to feel good and then you go out and try starting your chain saw which tends to kick back at you. That is why I am really hurting right now.

But hey not often when your daughter comes and asks you to cut some wood for an Art Project at school. You just kind of forget your aches and pains.

PG the Aleeve really knocked me out and put me to sleep.

What works for me when I have to work in front of a computer for a long time I do this.

1. Switch between using a laptop and a desktop. Changes the position of my fingers and arms between the two.
2. When using a laptop change from working with the laptop on my lap to working with it at my dining room table.
3. Change the height of your chair. Again this prevents the exact same position which is causing you trouble.

Other things I have read include Proper work practices like, working without bending your wrist, using smooth movements rather than jerky ones, and using work/rest schedules that allow time for you to change your position, rest your working body parts, and relax your mind. Read about this from an e-mail I received from these tennis guys.

I did look at the link and searched it. There is no readily available information on tennis elbow and have since removed the link.
