Going under the knife

I just found out yesterday that inorder to correct my congestion issues, i need nose surgery. I was wonder if anyone elas has had a deviated septum and if so what should I expect?

I have a friend who had the deviated septum surgery and it cured a rash of woes he didn't even know he had - and most of his snoring issues. (as a roommate in college, he could shake the walls 2 rooms away at times)

I had the Turbinate Shaving surgery done to my sinuses about 10 years back and it also made a world of difference in my ability to breathe and the frequency of sinus infections during the worst of allergy season.

they may do it as "day surgery" - where you check in first thing in the morning, have the surgery done, and are sent home by dinner time, or they may keep you overnight just in case your a "bleeder" - or react especially "well" to the anesthesia.

Either way, if they use a general anesthetic, plan on being pretty much useless for about 2 days due to fatigue and lack of endurance. After that you'll be fine. The surgery shouldn't leave you with much bruising after the second day, although blowing your nose won't be any fun for about a week.

good luck!

My brother had this done a few years back, and he says it was the best thing he ever did.

It's a good thing your getting this done because Eric's description does nothing for your sex appeal here. :yum:

I've seen the picture of her belly art several months back - nothing wrong with her sex appeal... :punk:

and as a petite and delicate flower of femininity, I'm sure CG NEVER snores...:whistling:

Jumpin catfish...even a mod making jokes in an SP thread? :pat: :poke:

I know, I know...cute girls don't snore....
CG you hold'in out on me? When did you show some skin? :yum:

don't worry, it was tasteful and in no way unseemly.
She showed less skin than just about any swimsuit on the market, and a lot of exercise outfilts I've seen, as well.

So, anyway, CowGirl - it's a pretty basic procedure and you'll be fine.
Your voice may sound different to you for a few days, because it'll resonate better in the more opened up sinus cavity, and you'll be able to smell the pine trees and holiday food goodness.

CG is modest and and tasteful as you say....I had to tease her.
But we gotta get back on subject here....what else can we say to support her going under the knife?

Good Morning CG;

A few years ago I had it done, as piece of cake. I have always had sinus infections and all the other stuff like snoring..ugh.. But they got me preped and started the drip .. Got a little nervous But by the time I counted to 100 I was out. Woke up in the hosptial room with IVs and a little tube with a button on it to dispense pain killer. I didn't feel a thing. So, it was great. It really did help for the first year. The dr. told me I would probably have to have it done again. And I suppose some year I might.

From the responses it sure sounds like a good thing for you to do CG. Best wishes with the procedure. Keep us posted how it goes and how you feel afterward.

Don't let anybody fool you. Some cute girls snore. Of that I am sure.

My surgery was to repair the damage from where my nose had been badly broken a few times and not fixed. For some reason I opted for just a local and was awake during the surgery. I honestly can't say I felt any pain but the sound was quite disturbing to say the least. I have no idea what type of surgery you are having, but based on my experience I'd opt for general rather than local. If they are taking out incorrectly healed broken bone you don't want to hear the process.

Being (fortunately) that I'm not a mouth breather, I had difficulty sleeping for a few days after the surgery. Everytime I'd fall asleep I'd close my mouth and try to breath through my nose, which was filled with packing. I'd then quickly wake fearing I couldn't breathe. I was so glad when they took the packing out. It seemed like they had enough in there to wad up and make a baseball! The good part is that I've been able to breathe much better after the damaged bone structure that was inhibiting my ability to breathe through my nose was removed. It honestly wasn't pleasant for me, but I'd do it again.

Sorry my story isn't all roses. :flowers: However, most of my difficulty was from not having previous breaks properly set. Actually I'd "set" my own nose the last time it was broken. You know, one of those stupid macho guy things that in reality was stupid. Good luck to you. I'd just be sure to ask the physician about sleeping the first few days after the surgery. Maybe you won't have a pound of gauze shoved up your nose.

Of course I don't snore, well at least I don't remember it. Anyway there is no way I could even possible snore as bad as BF. Yeah I did show some skin awhile back in a thread about tattoos. I have a rose tattoo next to my belly button.

Thanks for everyones input. I have heard it will make a huge difference in my ability to breath.

My doctor said he doesn't use gauze/packing anymore. I use some kind of tiny tubes instead. They remove them after about a week.

Not sure yet. I should know by the end of the week. Hopefully soon, I just got a new toy, so I don't want it to interfer with my play time.

2009 MXZ TNT Ski-doo snowmobile with the new E-TEC engine. No pictures yet, but I will take some soon. I'm currently doing the snow dance, and well it's not going so well. This entire week it has been in the 70's.

I'm alittle worried about how the surgery will effect me being able to snowmobile. I'm worried the modular helmet I use will interfer or be diffcult to wear.

I did get a new shotgun for my birthday in June. We went hunting in October so I finally got to shoot it, and I even got my first grouse with it. I will have to post a photo of me with my first bird and the gun.

CG is pretty, she hunts, she likes to ride snowmobiles...Works in Law Enforcement, she's a regular tomboy like Sarah Palin...So why isn't she running for the VP spot?????
I'd vote for'er :thumb:

as I stated earlier, here are my hunting photos. No photos of my new snowmobile yet.

LOL. I will keep that in mind next year. I'm just happy my clothes matched. You see I don't do mornings very well, so this whole getting up at the crack of dawn, well lets just say I don't do well with it.
